సెన్సేషనల్ హీరో విజయ్ దేవరకొండ – సమంత కలయికలో శివ నిర్వాణ దర్శకత్వంలో వచ్చిన సినిమా ఖుషి. కాగా ఈ చిత్రం ఈ రోజు విడుదల అయింది. మరి ప్రేక్షకులను ఈ చిత్రం ఏ మేరకు మెప్పించిందో సమీక్షలోకి వెళ్లి తెలుసుకుందాం !

విప్లవ్ దేవరకొండ (విజయ్ దేవరకొండ) ఆరాధ్య (సమంత)ను చూసి తొలిచూపులోనే ఆమెతో ప్రేమలో పడతాడు. అతన్ని దూరం పెట్టడానికి ఆరాధ్య ఎన్ని అబద్ధాలు చెప్పి తప్పించుకున్నా.. ఎట్టకేలకు చివరకు విప్లవ్ తో ఆమె కూడా ప్రేమలో పడుతుంది. అయితే వీరి ప్రేమకు ఆరాధ్య తండ్రి మరియు ప్రవచన కర్త చదరంగం శ్రీనివాసరావు (మురళీ శర్మ) అంగీకరించడు. అటు విప్లవ్ తండ్రి మరియు నాస్తికుడైన సత్యం (సచిన్ ఖేడేకర్) కూడా వీరి పెళ్లిని అంగీకరించడు. ఈ క్రమంలో జరిగిన నాటకీయ పరిణామాల నేపథ్యంలో తల్లిదండ్రులను ఎదిరించి విప్లవ్ – ఆరాధ్య పెళ్లి చేసుకుంటారు. మరి పెళ్లి తర్వాత వీరి జీవితం ఎలా సాగింది ?, వీరి లైఫ్ లో జరిగిన ఊహించని మలుపులు ఏమిటి ?, చివరకు విప్లవ్ – ఆరాధ్య కథ ఎలా ముగిసింది ? అనేది మిగిలిన కథ.

గుడ్ కాన్సెప్ట్ తో పాటు ఫీల్ గుడ్ లవ్ సీన్స్ మరియు ఎమోషనల్ గా సాగే ఫ్యామిలీ ఎమోషన్స్.. అలాగే డీసెంట్ గా అనిపించే నటీనటుల పనితీరు ఈ ఖుషికి హైలైట్స్ గా నిలిచాయి. ముఖ్యంగా ఓ ప్రవచన కర్త – ఓ నాస్తికుడి మధ్య జరిగిన సంఘర్షణ.. ప్రేమ కథలో కూడా కాన్ ఫ్లిక్ట్ ను పెంచడం చాలా బాగుంది. విజయ్ దేవరకొండ – సమంత కూడా తమ పాత్రలకు ప్రాణం పోశారు. అలాగే శివ నిర్వాణ రాసిన కథ మరియు పాత్రలు కూడా కొత్తగా పెళ్లి అయిన వారి జీవితాల్లోని సంఘటనలు పరిస్థితుల ఆధారంగా సాగుతూ ఆకట్టుకుంటాయి.

భర్త పాత్రలో విజయ్ దేవరకొండ చక్కని నటనను కనబరిచాడు. పెళ్లి అయిన తర్వాత ఓ సగటు భర్తగా చాలా బాగా నటించాడు. ముఖ్యంగా ఎమోషనల్ సన్నివేశాల్లో సెటిల్డ్ పెర్ఫార్మెన్స్ తో తన పాత్రకి పూర్తి న్యాయం చేశాడు. మెయిన్ గా సెకెండ్ హాఫ్ లో హోమం సీక్వెన్స్ లో అలాగే సమంత వెళ్ళిపోయాక వచ్చే సీన్స్ లో విజయ్ నటన సినిమాకే హైలెట్ గా నిలుస్తోంది. అలాగే విజయ్ కి – సమంతకి మధ్య కెమిస్ట్రీ కూడా బాగా అలరిస్తుంది

ఇక కథానాయకగా నటించిన సమంత తన పాత్రలో చాలా చక్కగా నటించింది. తన స్క్రీన్ ప్రెజెన్స్ తో పాటు తన నటనతోనూ ఆకట్టుకుంది. చదరంగం శ్రీనివాసరావుగా మురళీ శర్మ, నాస్తికుడు సత్యంగా సచిన్ ఖేడేకర్ తమ నాచ్యురల్ నటనతో ఆకట్టుకున్నారు. ఎప్పటిలాగే తన శైలి పాత్రలో కనిపించిన రోహిణి, లక్ష్మి కూడా బాగా నటించారు. ఇక మిగిలిన నటీనటులు కూడా తమ పాత్ర పరిధి మేరకు బాగా నటించారు.

మైనస్ పాయింట్స్ :

దర్శకుడు శివ నిర్వాణ తీసుకున్న కథాంశం బాగున్నప్పటికీ.. కథనం మాత్రం కొన్ని చోట్ల సింపుల్ గా సాగుతుంది. ముఖ్యంగా ఫస్ట్ హాఫ్ లోని కశ్మీర్ సీక్వెన్స్ అలాగే సెకెండ్ హాఫ్ లో కొన్ని చోట్ల స్క్రీన్ ప్లే స్లోగా సాగుతుంది. ఇక హీరోహీరోయిన్ల మధ్య వచ్చే కొన్ని లవ్ సీన్స కూడా రెగ్యులర్ గానే సాగుతాయి. మొత్తానికి దర్శకుడు తాను అనుకున్న కంటెంట్ ను స్క్రీన్ మీద బాగా ఎలివేట్ చేసినా.. సినిమాలో కొన్ని రొటీన్ సీన్స్ ను ట్రిమ్ చేసి వుంటే సినిమాకి ఇంకా ప్లస్ అయ్యేది.

సాంకేతిక విభాగం :

ఇక సాంకేతిక నిపుణుల గురించి మాట్లాడుకుంటే.. శివ నిర్వాణ దర్శకుడిగా మంచి కథాంశంతో ఆకట్టుకున్నాడు. అలాగే ఆయన టేకింగ్ కూడా చాలా బాగుంది. సంగీత దర్శకుడు హిషామ్ అబ్ధుల్ వహాబ్ అందించిన పాటలు బాగున్నాయి. అదే విధంగా బ్యాక్ గ్రౌండ్ స్కోర్ కూడా కొన్ని కీలక సన్నివేశాల్లో చాలా బాగుంది. ఇక ఎడిటర్ అనవసరమైన సీన్స్ ని ఇంకా టైట్ గా ట్రీమ్ చేసి ఉండి ఉంటే, సినిమాకి ప్లస్ అయ్యేది. సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ బాగుంది. నిర్మాతలు నవీన్ ఎర్నేని-వై.రవిశంకర్ పాటించిన నిర్మాణ విలువలు చాలా బాగున్నాయి.

ఫీల్ గుడ్ లవ్ అండ్ ఫ్యామిలీ డ్రామాగా వచ్చిన ఈ చిత్రం ఎమోషనల్ గా సాగుతూ ఆకట్టుకుంది. దర్శకుడు శివ నిర్వాణ నాస్తికత్వానికి – భక్తికి సంబంధించి మంచి పాయింట్ ను తీసుకుని.. భార్యాభర్తల మధ్య మంచి ఎమోషనల్ సన్నివేశాలతో బాగానే ఆకట్టుకున్నాడు. గుడ్ కాన్సెప్ట్, ఫీల్ గుడ్ లవ్ సీన్స్, ఎమోషనల్ గా సాగే ఫ్యామిలీ ఎమోషన్స్ ఈ సినిమాలో హైలైట్స్ గా నిలిచాయి. ఐతే, ఈ సినిమాలో కొన్ని సీక్వెన్స్ స్లోగా సాగడం, అలాగే కొన్ని రొటీన్ సీన్స్ సినిమాకి మైనస్ అయ్యాయి. కాకపోతే, విజయ్ దేవరకొండ – సమంత తమ నటనతో సినిమాని మరో లెవల్ కి తీసుకువెళ్లారు. ముఖ్యంగా వారిద్దరీ కెమిస్ట్రీ చాలా బాగుంది. ఓవరాల్ గా ఈ ఖుషి ప్రేక్షకులను బాగా మెప్పిస్తోంది.

Kushi movie review: This Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha Ruth Prabhu starrer is a love story with a twist

Vijay Deverakonda gets to turn on every bit of his star wattage in Shiva Nirvana's Kushi . I personally prefer to watch this actor express angst: few young performers are better at locating so precisely the scabs and scars and ripped-open wounds in one's soul. But here, he is in his Geetha Govindam mode. In that review, I wrote: "Vijay Deverakonda is canny enough to realise that the new-fangled films that got him noticed may be better cinema , but to become a huge box-office draw, you need to be a popcorn entertainer who's a bit of everything to everyone." You could say the same about Kushi . It is a safe movie. It is a family movie. It is a movie that makes a joke about Arjun Reddy and says: "This is not that movie. This is a safe movie. This is a family movie." And Vijay handles it all like a pro, like a supermodel who knows exactly where to look and how to turn for Murali G's camera to record him at his starriest.

His character is named Viplav. He works for a government company (BSNL) the way Shah Rukh Khan's character worked for AIR in Dil Se . When the first track from Hesham Abdul Wahab's lovely album ( 'Na Roja nuvve' ) , was released, many people noted that the lyrics were filled with the names of Mani Ratnam's movies. It was no accident. The main story of Kushi is about science vs. superstition, but a parallel narrative is about the many Mani Ratnam-esque storylines in here. Viplav falls for the burqa -clad Aaradhya (Samantha Ruth Prabhu), in Kashmir, and when they decide to get married, their families find there's too much incompatibility, too much friction. Aaradhya's father throws her out. Viplav/Aaradhya take up a place of their own, and negotiate married life with all its ups and downs with a guest appearance-making older couple (Rohini / Jayaram)...

This is an inelegant screenplay, which throws plot points at you instead of easing you into them. For instance, how do we know that Viplav's father (Sachin Khedekar) is a science-loving atheist? Because, in the very first scene , he's called to the podium on World Science Day and he rants against superstition. Now that that checkbox is cleared, how do we know that Aaradhya's father (Murali Sharma) is a scripture-quoting theist? Because in a train, in Kashmir , the man right behind Aaradhya plays… scripture being quoted by her father! If Viplav's devout mother (Saranya Ponvannan) is so afraid of incurring his father's wrath, then why would she conduct a ritual in the living room for all to see? When Viplav lands in Kashmir for his posting, he seems surprised to see an explosion – but afterwards, nothing occurs that marks this state as particularly troubled, nor is Viplav wary about moving around. So why have this scene suggesting a war-torn state? So on and so forth. 

Kashmir is simply the place Viplav meets Aaradhya, whose reason for wearing that burqa may make some eyes roll. What Kushi needed to do in the first half is establish their romance firmly. But his is a case of love at first sight (which, again, might be a Mani Ratnam nod), and we waste a lot of time over a bizarrely over-the-top subplot about her missing brother. Neither Viplav nor Aaradhya behaves like a real person. They are exaggerated caricatures doing things we are meant to find "sweet" and "cute" and "romantic". I admit I giggled at the sight of Vennela Kishore taking a shit in the snow while listening to Lag jaa gale . And a joke involving apples is mildly amusing. But all this does nothing for the love story we are meant to be rooting for, and there is literally no basis for why Aaradhya should fall for Viplav. 

But at the end of this tiresome "brother" subplot (it goes on and on in this 2:45-hour movie) Samantha sells her reason beautifully. Aaradhya believes in destiny and God, and she feels Viplav is the man for her. It can't be explained rationally, but Samantha is so good (and so old-world gorgeous) that she makes you feel what she is feeling. And the early parts of the second half are where you finally feel the chemistry between the two stars, the two actors. Over a song that breezes through a year of screen time, we see Viplav and Aaradhya do small things (instead of the big, exaggerated things earlier) that make them believable as a couple. Knowing his atheism, she hesitates to buy a small statue of Ganesha, but then, he surprises her with… a small statue of Ganesha. This bit in the song tells us everything about living with another person: that you can do your own thing, and yet respect your partner's beliefs. 

Had this flavour continued, we might have had an excellent second half that touched on this core (and universal) concept of being true to yourself and yet… adjusting, compromising… to an extent that doesn't break that true self of yours. Instead, we get into exaggerations again to escalate the conflict between this couple. Out of nowhere, Viplav turns into this man who says things like "Women should be put in their place." And a scene at a fertility centre is treated as broad comedy, which destroys the emotion behind going to that fertility centre in the first place. I could overlook the two unnecessarily overblown action sequences: art and the box office need as much adjustment and compromise as a couple does. But what to do with a scene where Aaradhya's foreign client says he would have married her had she been single – just so that Viplav can overhear this and get more conflicted?

I liked the ending. I liked Viplav's small confrontation with his father. When the older man does something that goes against his beliefs, you realise the power of good melodrama. And when the science vs. superstition dilemma is resolved apparently by God or Nature (depending on which side of the divide you fall on), it's the perfect ending. Because not all debates have conclusive answers. This last stretch captures that balance that Alaipaayuthey did, between heightening something for cinematic effect and yet keeping things real. But it's when some things are done so well that the rest of it rankles. If all you want is pretty people in pretty surroundings and a pretty soundtrack, I suppose Kushi fits the bill. But I'd say the film is a missed opportunity. The sort of writing where Viplav wakes up and finds Aaradhya missing (and the resolution to this) – it's shock value for the sake of shock value. It tells us not to take this couple seriously. And when that doesn't happen, where's the movie?

యశోద, శాకుంతలం చిత్రాలతో సమంత, లైగర్‌తో విజయ్‌ దేవరకొండ,  టక్‌ జగదీష్‌తో శివ నిర్వాణ.. ఈ ముగ్గురు తమ కెరీర్‌లో అతిపెద్ద డిజాస్టర్స్‌ అందుకున్నారు. వీరి కెరీర్‌కి అర్జెంట్‌గా ఓ హిట్‌ అవసరం. అందుకే తమకు అచ్చొచ్చిన ప్రేమ కథను ఎంచుకొని ‘ఖుషి’ చేశారు. ప్రేమ కథలను ఎమోషనల్‌గా తెరకెక్కించడంలో శివ నిర్వాణ ఎక్స్‌పర్ట్‌. తన కథకు జంటగా విజయ్‌, సమంతలను ఎంచుకున్నప్పటి నుంచే ‘ఖుషి’పై హైప్‌ క్రియేట్‌ అయింది. పాటలు సూపర్‌ హిట్‌ కావడం, ప్రమోషన్స్‌ కూడా గ్రాండ్‌గా నిర్వహించడంతో ఈ సినిమాపై అంచనాలు పెరిగాయి. భారీ అంచనాలతో తెలుగుతో పాటు హిందీ, తమిళ, కన్నడ, మలయాళ భాషల్లో నేడు(సెప్టెంబర్‌ 1) ఈ చిత్రం ప్రేక్షకుల ముందుకు వచ్చింది. మరి ఈ మూవీ ఎలా ఉంది? రివ్యూలో చూద్దాం. 

‘ఖుషి’ కథేంటంటే.. లెనిన్‌ సత్యం(సచిన్‌ ఖేడేకర్‌) ఓ నాస్తికుడు. సైన్స్‌ని నమ్మాలని, మూఢ నమ్మకాలతో మోసం పోవద్దని ప్రచారం చేస్తుంటాడు. దేవుళ్లను నమ్మడు. అతని భార్య రాజ్యలక్ష్మీ(శరణ్య) మాత్రం భర్తకు తెలియకుండా పూజలు చేస్తుంటుంది. ఇక  అతని చిన్న కొడుకు విప్లవ్‌ దేవరకొండ(విజయ్‌ దేవరకొండ) కూడా నాస్తికుడే. బీఎస్‌ఎన్‌ఎల్‌లో ఉద్యోగం రావడంతో అడిగి మరి కశ్మీర్‌లో పోస్టింగ్‌ వేయించుకుంటాడు. అక్కడ ఆరా బేగం(సమంత)ను చూసి తొలి చూపులోనే ప్రేమలో పడతాడు. తాను పాకిస్తాన్‌కు చెందిన ముస్లిం అమ్మాయి అని తెలిసినా.. ఆమెను పెళ్లి చేసుకోవాలని ఫిక్స్‌ అవుతాడు.

విప్లవ్‌ తనపై చూపించే ప్రేమకు ఆరా బేగం ఫిదా అవుతుంది. అప్పుడు తాను ముస్లిం అమ్మాయిని కాదని, బ్రాహ్మిన్‌ అమ్మాయిని అని,  తన అసలు పేరు ఆరాధ్య అని చెబుతుంది. కాకినాడకు చెందిన ప్రవచనకర్త చదరంగం శ్రీనివాసరావు(మురళీ శర్మ) తన తండ్రి అని చెబుతుంది.  చదరంగం శ్రీనివాసరావుకు, లెనిన్‌ సత్యంకు అసలు పడదు. ఒకరు దేవుడి, జోతిష్యాన్ని నమ్మితే.. మరొకరు సైన్స్‌, టెక్నాలజీని నమ్ముతారు. ఇరు కుటుంబాలు వీరి పెళ్లికి ఒప్పుకోరు. పెద్దలను ఎదిరించి ప్రేమ పెళ్లి చేసుకుంటారు విప్లవ్‌, ఆరాధ్య. ఆ తర్వాత ఏం జరిగింది?  ఇద్దరి మధ్య గొడవలకు కారణం ఏంటి?  ఇరు కుటుంబాల పెద్దలు ఊహించినట్లు వీరిద్దరు విడిపోయారా? లేదా కలిసే ఉన్నారా? చివరకు ఏం జరిగింది? అనేది తెలియాలంటే సినిమా చూడాల్సిందే. 

ఎలా ఉందంటే..  భార్యభర్తల మధ్య గొడవలు సహజం. ఏదో ఒక సందర్భంలో ఆలుమగల మధ్య కలహాలు వస్తూనే ఉంటాయి. వాటిని భరిస్తూ, ఒకరికొకరు తోడుగా ఉంటూ ముందుకు సాగడమే జీవితం అని చాటి చెప్పిన సినిమా ‘ఖుషి’. అంతేకాదు మరో సున్నితమైన అంశాన్ని  కూడా ఇందులో చూపించారు.  రక్తం పంచుకుపుట్టిన పిల్లలు, ఫ్యామిలీ కంటే సిద్దాంతాలు, శాస్త్రాలు పెద్ద గొప్పవి ఏమి కాదని తెలియజేసే బ్యూటిఫుల్‌ లవ్‌స్టోరీ ఇది. 

కథగా చూసుకుంటే ఖుషి కొత్తదేమి కాదు. వేరు వేరు మతాలకు చెందిన అబ్బాయి, అమ్మాయి ప్రేమించుకోవడం.. వారి పెళ్లికి పెద్దలు నిరాకరించడం.. పేరెంట్స్‌ని ఎదురించి, అష్టకష్టాలు పడి వారు పెళ్లి చేసుకోవడం..ఈ కాన్సెఫ్ట్‌తో గతంలో చాలా సినిమాలే వచ్చాయి. ‘ఖుషి’ కథ కూడా ఇంచుమించు అలాంటిదే. కానీ కథనం కాస్త డిఫరెంట్‌గా ఉంటుంది.  

నిన్నుకోరి, మజిలి చిత్రాల్లో లవ్‌ ఫెయిల్యూర్‌ అయిన వ్యక్తి బాధను చూపించిన దర్శకుడు శివ నిర్వాణ.. ఈ చిత్రంలో  పెద్దలను ఎదురించి, ప్రేమ పెళ్లి చేసుకున్న ఓ జంట మధ్య ఎలాంటి విషయాలు అపార్థాలకు  కారణమవుతుంటాయి? భిన్న నేపథ్యం ఉన్న కుటుంబాలను నుంచి వచ్చినవారికి ఆ అపార్థాల ప్రభావం ఏ స్థాయిలో ఉంటుందనేది చూపించాడు. ఫస్టాఫ్‌ మొత్తం హీరో హీరోయిన్ల లవ్‌స్టోరీ చూపిస్తే.. సెకండాఫ్‌లో వైవాహిక జీవితాన్ని చూపించాడు. 

లెనిన్‌ సత్యం పాత్రను పరిచయం చేస్తూ సినిమా ప్రారంభమవుతుంది. ఆ తర్వాత  హీరో కశ్మీర్‌కి వెళ్లి, హీరోయిన్‌ని చూసేంత వరకు కథ నెమ్మదిగా సాగుతుంది. ఎప్పుడైతే బేగం ప్రేమలో విప్లవ్‌ పడతాడో.. అప్పటి నుంచి కథ ఆసక్తిగా సాగుతుంది. బేగం ప్రేమను పొందేందుకు విప్లవ్‌ చేసే కొన్ని పనులు నవ్వులు పూయిస్తాయి. వెన్నెల కిశోర్‌, విజయ్‌ల మధ్య  సన్నివేశాలు హిలేరియస్‌గా ఉంటాయి.

హీరోకి అసలు విషయం తెలియడం.. పెళ్లి కోసం ఇరు కుటుంబాలను ఒప్పించడం..ఇదంతా రొటీన్‌గా సాగుతుంది. పెళ్లి  తర్వాత వచ్చే రొమాంటిక్‌ సాంగ్‌  యూత్‌ని బాగా ఆకట్టుకుంటుంది. ఇంటర్వెల్‌ సీన్‌ తర్వాత కథనం ఎలా సాగుతుందో  ఓ అంచనాకు రావొచ్చు.  అయినా కూడా సినిమాపై మాత్రం ఆసక్తి తగ్గదు. సెకండాఫ్‌లో కామెడీ మరింత పండించే స్కోప్‌ ఉన్నా.. దర్శకుడు ఆ దిశగా ఆలోచించలేదు. 

టెస్టుల కోసం హీరో ఆస్పత్రికి వెళ్లే సీన్‌ థియేటర్లలో నవ్వులు పూయిస్తుంది. ఇక చివరి 30 నిమిషాలు అయితే కథ ఎమోషనల్‌గా సాగుతుంది.  సైన్స్‌, శాస్త్రాల కంటే ప్రేమ గొప్పదని చూపించడానికి దర్శకుడు రాసుకున్న సన్నివేశాలు అద్భుతంగా ఉన్నాయి. ఇలాంటి సున్నితమైన అంశాలను అతి సున్నితంగా తెరపై చూపించాడు. క్లైమాక్స్‌ రొటీన్‌గా ఉంటుంది.  కథ, కథనం కొత్తగా లేకున్నా... ఫ్యామిలీ ఆడియన్స్‌ను మెప్పించే సన్నివేశాలు మాత్రం చాలానే ఉన్నాయి. వినసొంపైన పాటలు... అందమైన లొకేషన్స్‌, విజులవ్‌ ఎఫెక్ట్స్‌, నేపథ్య సంగీతం సినిమా స్థాయిని పెంచేశాయి. 

హీరో తండ్రి, నాస్తికుడు లెనిన్‌ సత్యంగా సచిన్‌ ఖేడేకర్‌ తనదైన నటనతో ఆకట్టుకున్నాడు. ప్రవచనకర్త చదరంగం శ్రీనివాసరావుగా మురళీ శర్మ మరోసారి తన అనుభవాన్ని తెరపై చూపించాడు. ఫస్టాఫ్‌లో వెన్నెల కిశోర్‌ కామెడీ బాగా పండింది. జయరాం, రోహిణి, రాహుల్‌ రామకృష్ణతో పాటు మిగిలిన నటీనటులు తమ పాత్రల పరిధిమేర నటించారు. 

ఇక సాంకేతిక విషయాలకొస్తే.. ఈ సినిమాకు మరో ప్రధాన బలం హేషామ్ అబ్దుల్ వహాబ్ సంగీతం. సినిమా విడుదలకు ముందే పాటలు సూపర్‌ హిట్‌ అయ్యాయి. తెరపై కూడా పాటలు వినసొంపుగా, అందగా ఉన్నాయి. నేపథ్య సంగీతం సినిమా స్థాయిని పెంచింది. మురళీ జి. సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ సినిమాకు అదనపు ఆకర్షణ. కశ్మీర్‌ అందాలను తెరపై చక్కగా చూపించాడు. ప్రతి సన్నివేశం చాలా బ్యూటిఫుల్‌గా ఉంటుంది. ఎడిటర్‌ పనితీరు పర్వాలేదు. నిర్మాణ విలువలు సినిమా స్థాయికి తగ్గట్లు ఉన్నతంగా ఉన్నాయి.  -అంజి శెట్టె, సాక్షి వెబ్‌డెస్క్‌

Kushi Movie Review : A Musical Entertainer !

Story: Viplav (Vijay Deverakonda is the son of atheist Lenin Satyam (Sachin Khedekar). Viplav, who works for BSNL is deployed to Kashmir where he meets Aara (Samantha). Aara and her friend trick Viplav that they are Muslims. But she is a Brahmin with a celebrity father who is a very God believer. The rest of the story is about the conflict between the lead couple, and the conflict between the Atheist family and the religious family.

Kushi takes off to the main story point without any delay after the main character’s introduction. As the protagonist moves to Kashmir on the job, the stunning Kashmir welcomes the audience. The beautiful locations, the first two soothing songs work, entertaining scenes will make the movie run smoothly. The hero Viplav tries to help Aaradya, and both fall in love with each other. The comedy is not great, but adequate entertainment throughout the first half of the film. The Hesham Abdul Wahab music and background score do the trick. Samantha in Aara’s role appeal. The second half starts with the typical newly married couple romance.

The Vijay Deverakonda, and Samantha chemistry worked out well, in some scenes they look like a real couple. There are even lip locks between them. The casting Is another asset for the film, Murali Sharma Sachin, Saranya, Lakshmi, Vennela Kishore, Rohini, Jayaram, and all other character actors did well.

There are minor hiccups in the second half of the film, which are covered by the good climax. Murali G’s photography is excellent and captures nature very well in Kashmir and Kerala. Prawin Pudi editing has been largely good, but should have been crisper in the second half.

-Good Entertainment throughout -Vijay – Samantha Pair is Superb -Great Songs and picturization -Family elements are blended well. -Different backdrop to a regular story -Production Values

-Slows down around pre-climax. -Some of the comedy bits are average. -There is ample scope for good dialogues but not been able to deliver. -The Kerala episode is not appealing.

An Entertaining, Classy, and Good family film after a long gap in Telugu. It has a simple story with a new backdrop that’s been effectively narrated by director Shiva Nirvana. The Superb songs and their aesthetic visuals are additional strengths of the film. Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha are at their best. The emotional climax covers the minor hiccups the film had. Go and Watch !

Romantic bliss.

The comedy between Vijay Devarakonda and Rahul Ramakrishna makes viewers impatient. Shiva Nirvana tries to make it up with a few romantic scenes between Vijay and Samantha. But the Murali Sharma and Sachin Khedekar's believer and no believer of God scenes are dragged to eternity and even the conflict and misunderstanding scenes between Samantha and Vijay Devarakonda. To the top of it, the scenes featuring Rohini and Jayaram also test the patience of the viewers. (more)

Enjoyable rom-com

, Kushi is a likeable rom-com with a neat second half. The main point of the film unfolds in the latter hour, which is packed with good drama and emotions. Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha are adorable, and they are well-supported by other artists. But as mentioned earlier, the initial portions of the film aren�t great. Also, Kushi could have done with a shorter runtime for better impact. Nonetheless, Shiva Nirvana delivers a film that is relatable to family audiences. Hence, Kushi ends up being a good watch this weekend. (more)

Following the disappointing outcome of "Liger," Vijay Deverakonda was in need of a film that could bring him joy and relief. He believed that "Kushi," a romantic drama, could be the one to achieve this. Has the film lived up to his expectations?

Story: New BSNL recruit Vilpav (Vijay Deverakonda) falls in love with Aradhya (Samantha), an IT engineer who came to Kashmir with her colleagues. They fall in love and quickly decide to tie the knot.

However, Viplav's (Sachin Khedekar) atheist father and Aradhya's (Murali Sharma) religious preacher father play spoilsport.

Aradhya's dad thinks Viplav and his dad need to do an homam to protect themselves from astrological doshas, but Viplav's dad is an atheist and doesn't buy it.

Viplav and Aradhya decide to run away and tie the knot. How peaceful or troubled will their married life be?

Artistes’ Performances: After the disappointment of "Liger," Vijay Deverakonda feels right at home in his role as the boy next door, Viplav. In this regard, he excels, being the film's primary strength. Vijay Deverakonda harks back to his "Geetha Govindam" days by avoiding the typical mass and action sequences, except for a small fight and a chase sequence.

Samantha appears decent in her "Begum" persona and her performance is poised and subtle. She looks at her best in this film when compared to her recent films. She also did a couple of lip locks.

The first half of the film features the comedy talents of Vennela Kishore, while the second half showcases those of Rahul Ramakrishna.

Murali Sharma fits well into his role as Pravachanakartha, and Sachin Khedekar is right on the mark as an atheist.

Lakshmi plays Samantha's grandmother, and Rohini and Jayaram contribute significantly to the film's emotional core.

Technical Excellence: The musical score is the film's strongest aspect. Hesham Abdul Wahab in his Telugu debut brings out a slew of excellent tracks that have been topping the charts. Visually, the songs are just as enjoyable as it is audibly.

Murali's cinematography is a plus because he creates visually striking shots. The photography in Kashmir is very aesthetically pleasing.

The editing is a big problem. The film drags on for far too long, and there are numerous boring scenes in the second half that could be cut without affecting the story.

Analysis Apart from "Arjun Reddy," Vijay Deverakonda's likable portrayal as the boy next door in films like "Pelli Choopulu" and "Geetha Govandam" has endeared him to both youngsters and family audiences.

Following the disappointment of "Liger," he recognized his strengths and opted for "Kushi," a film that takes him back to his roots. Shiva Nirvana has crafted a story loosely inspired by Mani Rathnam’s "Sakhi," but he introduces a new conflict: atheism versus religion.

Similar to “Sakhi,” we witness an extensive depiction of the love between the hero and heroine. We also observe the challenges faced by this couple after marriage, mirroring elements of “Sakhi.”

The first half of the film, set against the backdrop of Kashmir, is quite boring. In addition, the film loses its momentum after the hero and heroine tie the knot.

The director introduces a metropolitan fight sequence, a protracted exploration of infertility issues, a song about marital life ("pellam"), and more during this phase.

Unfortunately, this entire stretch consumes runtime without significantly contributing to the narrative. Just as the film begins to lose its grip, Shiva Nirvana revitalizes it with an episode set in Kerala.

From this point onward, "Kushi" manages to captivate the audience while evoking emotions. This final emotional episode rescues the movie, making it a decent watch.

The film's strengths lie in its vibrant settings, Vijay Deverakonda’s charismatic presence, Samantha's portrayal as the wife and the songs. However, its drawbacks include predictability, uneven storytelling, and a lack of strong conflict points.

There is a scene in the film that discusses the protagonist's masturbation to collect his semen for testing at a hospital. Heroine asks the hero whom he imagined while collecting, to which he replies that he imagined Kate Winslet from 'Titanic.' Is this necessary in a film that targets a family audience? The only difference is that this particular scene is only included for the USA audience, as it was removed in the Indian version.

However, “Kushi” offers an engaging viewing experience, especially for its family-oriented sequences and entertainment value, despite some issues.

Kushi Releases Worldwide Kushi, a romantic family drama starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Vijay Deverakonda hit the screens abroad a few hours earlier, to a full house of cheerful audience. The movie features the epic pair after Mahanati, in full-fledged roles.

Written and directed by Shiva Nirvana, the movie is a love story that deals with life after love marriage as the couple lack parents support. In his debut film Ninnu Kori, director Shiva Nirvana explored the dynamic between a married woman and her ex-lover. At the end of it all, Kushi remains the kind of film thatll entertain you, despite the draggy bits. Love triumphs above all else is a message all of us could use.

The film begins well with Viplavs decision to choose Kashmir for his job location. Vennela Kishores character adds some fun to the proceedings. The first two songs are picturised well and add to the romantic mood. The film takes an interesting turn with Samanthas identity getting revealed and the possibility of a clash between tradition and modernity, and faith and reason coming up.

On the whole, Kushi is a likeable rom-com with a neat second half. The main point of the film unfolds in the latter hour, which is packed with good drama and emotions. Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha are adorable, and they are well-supported by other artists. But as mentioned earlier, the initial portions of the film arent great. Also, Kushi could have done with a shorter runtime for better impact. Nonetheless, Shiva Nirvana delivers a film that is relatable to family audiences. Hence, Kushi ends up being a good watch this weekend.

Overall, Kushi is a mixed plot of topics like marriage, misunderstandings, and parents egos that work only in parts. The songs, picturization, and a few comedy scenes make it a passable entertainer on the whole. Kushi gets decent marks compared to those disasters attacking audiences every week and it has to be seen how it fares at B & C centers.
