Free Online Timer for Meetings
Companies thrive through proper communication, and meetings are essential to keep the whole team on the same page. But one of the main problems you face during a meeting is an inefficient use of the available time. By using a reliable countdown timer like Stagetimer, you can ensure that the meetings you organize go smoothly.
This way, you won’t end up missing an important point that needed to be discussed just because the previous discussion took too long. Additionally, this will help each attendant to have a clearer understanding of upcoming discussions and presentations. So they can be better prepared beforehand. In this brief, we will tell you how you can use Stagetimer to improve your meetings.
Timing Virtual and On-Site Meetings
Stagetimer can be used for both virtual and on-site meetings. This simple countdown timer for virtual meetings runs on a browser. So no downloads or installations are required. This also means that it can run on virtually any up to date device capable of running a browser, including phones, smart TVs, and even a Raspberry Pi. If you are in a place with no stable internet, you can also use it locally with the offline version of Stagetimer.
Additionally, it is very easy to share. You can share the meeting timer or agenda with all the people attending virtually with ease. You can share it via links or even QR codes. Also, Stagetimer syncs up with different time zones.
So if your meeting has foreign attendants, then their virtual timer will sync up seamlessly with their local time based on the browser settings. No extra steps are needed. All of these useful features make Stagetimer perfect for virtual meetings.
For on-site meetings, you simply have to set up timer screens for the attendants or share the timer with them on their devices. All the shared timers on the devices can then be set up, controlled, and synced using the controller page.
Ways to Keep Presenters/Speakers on Time
Stagetimer offers various features to help keep the presenters or speakers on time for their presentations, reports, or speeches. This way, everyone gets a fair amount of time to make their point and bring up new ideas. So here are the features of Stagetimer you can use to keep meeting participants on time:
Timer and Progress Bar
Stagetimer features an easy-to-view progress bar that can be moved either to the top or the bottom of the screen as per your preference. It can also be turned into a ring instead of a bar. The progress bar has a progress tracker showing the viewer how much time has elapsed and how much time is left in each segment.
Additionally, there is a number display in a large font showing exactly how much time is left for the timer segments to finish. The presenter or speaker can check how much time they have left with just a glance at the screen. Finally, there is also an overtime function built into Stagetimer that displays how much more time the speaker has taken than was allotted to them. The speaker becomes aware of their time being finished and overtime starting thanks to the clearly displayed overtime timer.
Color Coding
To emphasize the time running out on the timer, you can use green, yellow, and red timer color coding. The green color is displayed when there is plenty of time left for the speaker. When the timer is nearing the end, it will turn yellow. And finally, the timer will turn red when it is wrap-up time, and the speaker needs to finish their speech or presentation.
The color coding is implemented on the progress bar. So you can see what zone you are in by checking the progress bar. Additionally, the green, yellow, and red color coding can be understood by every attendant without requiring extensive explanation since the meaning is quite universal.
Stagetimer allows you to fully customize when each color-coded wrap-up time shows on a timer. So you can custom-set different wrap-up times for each section of the meeting.
Stagetimer also allows you to send messages to the screen of the speaker to let them know that the next presenter is waiting for their turn to speak. You can tell the speaker that their time is up or go for a more subtle approach and call out who the next speaker is going to be. Additionally, the messages can be color-coded to emphasize their urgency to the attendants.
There are other ways to use the message feature as well that can help enhance your meeting. You can use the message feature to remind everyone of the agenda of the meeting and show the points they need to go through. You can also use it to announce upcoming presentations so the presenter can prepare themselves.
Or it can be used to highlight the main points of a speaker’s message. Additionally, the messaging feature can be used to subtly announce upcoming breaks in advance. The possibilities are virtually endless.
Timer Flash
Timer flash is another great feature of Stagetimer you can use to help keep the presenters on time. This feature lets you flash the timer to draw the attention of the speaker to the timer. So if the speaker is passionately talking, having forgotten about the timer, the flashing screen will quickly grab their attention, reminding them that they need to follow a schedule.
You can customize the timer flash feature as well, which is a plus. You can change when the timer flash occurs automatically in a timer segment. You can also customize how many times the timer flashes before it stops.
The chime feature of Stagetimer works similarly to the flash timer feature. Instead of flashing the timer, the chime feature makes a sound to grab the attention of the speaker. You can choose between multiple sound options to find the one that best fits the meeting’s mode.
Additionally, you can use a chime in conjunction with the flash timer feature. So you can set the timer to flash when the speaker’s time is close to being finished and the chime sound to go off when it is wrap-up time.
How to Run Virtual Meetings and What to Use
With the modern tools at our disposal, it has never been easier to set up and run virtual meetings. Here is how you can run virtual meetings and what tools you will need:
Zoom or Google Meet for Hosting the Meeting
The main thing you need for a virtual meeting is a platform for hosting the meeting. The most popular meeting hosting platforms are Zoom and Google Meet . When choosing a hosting platform, you need to take the number of attendants, cost, and engagement capabilities into account. With Zoom and Google Meet, you can also allow for text conversions to take place during the meeting to discuss important points in detail or share important data.
Stagetimer to Time the Meeting
You will also need to set up Stagetimer for the meeting. After you have made a detailed timer for the meeting and customized it to your liking, it can be shared with all the attendants or speakers. With a multiple countdown timer app like Stagetimer, you won’t have to worry about the meeting being derailed because of time mismanagement.
You can use Stagetimer to pass on messages and keep speakers on time. This way, the whole meeting will run smoothly without any hiccups. Additionally, you can manage the timer in real-time to make adjustments as needed.
Scribbl for Automatic Transcription
You will also need a tool to automatically transcribe all the meetings for you. This way, you won’t have to do any transcribing manually afterward. Having a transcribed version of the meeting is great for making notes for future reference. Scribbl is a great tool for automatically transcribing meetings hosted on Google Meet. It comes in both free and paid versions for you to use. Additionally, it is very easy to set up, saving time and effort.
Slido to Engage With Participants
Lastly, you need to improve the engagement among members during the meeting. For this, you can use a tool like Slido . Slido lets you set up live polls, quizzes and more. This way, the presenter can elaborate on topics using attendees’ feedback in real time.
Slido also lets you do video interactions as an added way of sharing information among the attendants. Additionally, with the poll feature attendants can vote on important company decisions.
Try Stagetimer for Free
Stagetimer is an essential tool for keeping meetings on track and can be used for free. For more features, you simply pay as you go. Its highly customizable appearance and versatile design mean that you can use it in any type of meeting or presentation with ease. The sheer number of features you get with Stagetimer allows you to manage meeting time like a pro. Its easy shareability and low resource requirements are also a great plus. Also Stagetimer is a no ads countdown timer. So you won’t have to deal with ads interrupting the meetings either. Create a room for free to try all basic features.
CueTimer is a desktop app for Mac and PC designed to help presenters manage their time during events and broadcasts. Control a list of timers from our cue-list, or use Stream Deck as a remote controller with Companion. Display a stage timer through multiple output options, including web, NDI, and your computer’s external display.
Control your time. Stay on schedule
CueTimer provides the tools to ensure that your event runs on schedule. Get started in just three simple steps:
1. Create the timer-list
Write down your schedule in the app interface, or import spreadsheet data: Cuetimer can open CSV & TSV files, and you can paste directly from Excel and Google Sheets. If you prefer a more dynamic workflow where you set the timings as you go, we support that as well.
2. connect the outputs
CueTimer has multiple options for viewing the timers on any device: if you are connected to an external monitor, just push the “Fullscreen” button. Or send the timer-page to broadcast-devices on your LAN-network through NDI. Remote speakers can stay in sync using our online timer.
3. control the time
The interface is tailored for show-control: Start and stop the timers with ease and edit on the fly. Redundancy and backup is secured with undo/redo and autosave. Companion with Stream Deck gives you extra buttons for the commands, and remote control over the network.
Trusted by leading industry professionals
We ❤️ CueTimer! We use it on our shows to keep everything running in military precision. We particularly enjoy using it in conjunction with Companion to enable us to adjust the timers on the fly, giving us feedback on our adjustments and allowing us to hit essential cue times throughout the day. Whether it’s a live event or a broadcast, you will always see us running CueTimer on our Streamdecks! – Ben Dave, Dot + Diode, Great Britain
I can without exaggeration say that CueTimer has changed my life on show site in many ways.
I really enjoy how much customization is available for the display features like creating a template for repeatable segments. My customers also love the messaging feature. For the cost of a license, laptop and small monitor, it’s definitely a better value proposition over a traditional clock system.
– Craig Trosclair, Corporate Lighting and Audio, USA
We are extremely happy to use CueTimer in our productions. We constantly provide AV production solutions for streams, hybrid events and live events catering to state ministries and high-profile corporate clients, so a flexible stage communication and timing tool like this is invaluable to us in securing the flow of the show.
– Panu Koskinen, ShowTekniikka, Finland
We have installed CueTimer on several Macbook Air and use the tool regularly. The range of functions is very large, the design can be adapted almost as desired and saved as a template. If necessary, the timer can be shared via a link over the Internet, but the software basically works offline, which is a great advantage over other products.
– Simon Anliker, Kilchenmann AG , Switzerland
CueTimer and APS are unbelievable lifesavers when working with corporate AV. It helps speed up my workflows and keeps the events on time. The option to give moderators and event producers a link for timers is a great feature. I’m very happy with the support and customer service. I recommend these tools for anyone who asks about solutions for presentation-switching and timers.
– Truls Skæveland, Eventi AS, Norway
Finding a clock-solution for Lego Masters Norway that was reliable, flexible and easy to work with in a TV setting proved to be a challenge until we came across PresentationTools and their CueTimer software. I would definitely recommend CueTimer as a countdown timer and tool to keep time in a tight program.
– Michael Thunem Berlund, Hilux A/S, Norway
A countdown timer app for physical, virtual & hybrid events
CueTimer can be used for any event that needs precise timings:

A monitor with a countdown-timer is very useful for someone holding a presentation. With CueTimer it is easy to control this monitor and display the timers for the different speakers that enter the stage. When the time is running out you can make the colours change to notify the speakers.
Streaming & Remote Workflows
CueTimer is well suited for the digital workflow that has evolved during the Covid 19 pandemic. We have added multiple options for viewing the timers that should cover most scenarios: you can feed the video-mixers with HDMI or NDI video, and share a webpage with the timers to remote presenters and crew-members.
Broadcasting & Gameshows
A TV-show needs a production-timer that is reliable, flexible, and easy to use. CueTimer was built to solve this demanding task. To give an example, read more about how CueTimer was used as a countdown-timer for the season one of Lego Masters Norway.
Send the countdown anywhere
CueTimer has multiple output-options to view the timer on any device:

Push the “Fullscreen” button to place the countdown on the external display. With SDI/Fibre extenders the monitor can be placed far away from the computer. The “Preview” window lets you monitor what you are sending to the Fullscreen
CueTimer has a native NDI -output using the latest NDI 5 framework. This lets you share the countdown as graphics over the local LAN-network.

Or control a timer on top of Powerpoint
The Presenter window stays on top of other apps and when you hover over it buttons to control the timer appear. This way you control and display timers on the same PC or Mac used for your presentation. You no longer need an extra computer and a video-switcher to get an overlay timer.
Notify the speaker that the time is running out
During the countdown you get 2 alerts where the timer-style can change, and when the timer ends, add more colors. These dynamic changes can help the speaker understand when it’s time to wrap it up. Alternatively, you can send OSC messages over the network, so that you can let the end of the timer start a video, song, or even confetti.
Customize the style of the timer
Send osc to trigger other applications.
Video in 3x speed
Send messages to the presenters
The confidence-monitor with the timer is one of the few places where you can send messages to the presenter without the audience noticing it. Let them know if their microphone needs to be adjusted, if the next speaker is delayed, or use it for questions from the audience.
If you have a big monitor, place the message on the top of the screen along with the other content. Or if you really want to grab the attention of the speaker, give the message flashy colors and make it fill the whole screen.
Import rundowns and event-schedules
You can import CSV and TSV files, or just paste spreadsheet-data into CueTimer. The new Configure List option lets you shuffle, add and hide columns so that the imported list will look similar to the original. If the schedule only consists of start-times, the option “Auto Schedule” will calculate the durations for you. Or, if you prefer to do this manually, we support that too.
Control your licences from the user-dashboard
With a subscription-licence you can create an account on this site where you can monitor your licences, release licences from activated computers, and manage your subscriptions registered to your email-address.

How to Add a Timer to Your PowerPoint Presentations
The best thing about PowerPoint is that it allows you to customize your presentations as much as you need. Graphs, charts, personalized backgrounds, you name it! And, of course, this includes adding time countdown tools .
Here, you’ll find how to add a free countdown timer to your PowerPoint presentations. You can even make your very own PowerPoint timers!
We’ll go over the following topics:
PowerPoint timer common uses
How do you put a timer on powerpoint, option 1: free powerpoint countdown timer add-ins, powerpoint timers add-in recommendations, option 2: create your own powerpoint timers, bar powerpoint countdown timer, clock powerpoint countdown timer, digital countdown timer using vba macros, option 3: download a countdown clock template for powerpoint.
So, let’s get started.
Adding a PowerPoint countdown timer can be really useful when doing presentations:
- A timer helps you and your audience know how much time has passed .
- Timers are handy when you have a time limit you need to be aware of. For example, if you are quizzing your audience, a countdown timer in the presentation will help them know how much time they have left to answer your questions.
- You can even use PowerPoint timers for a presentation break to ensure your audience knows exactly when they’re expected to be back in their seats.
Let’s take a look at how to create them!
Adding a PowerPoint timer countdown is actually really easy! Here, you’ll find 3 ways to insert them in your presentation slides. Let’s take a look at each one of them.
The easiest way to add a free countdown timer to your presentation is through a PowerPoint add-in .
You just need to open PowerPoint and go to the Insert ribbon > Get Add-ins.
This will take you directly to the Add-in store of Microsoft Office . Once there, you just need to type “timer” in the search bar , and you’ll get all the options PowerPoint has to offer.
There are many options from where to choose, and you can pick whichever fits best your own needs. My personal favorites are PP Timer, EasyTimer, and Breaktime.
PP Timer is one of the best options! They offer digital and analog timers, and they both look professional yet visually appealing .
What's fantastic about PP Timer is the level of customization it offers. You can personalize the time, font type and size , the text displayed at the beginning and end, a background image, and even include a last-minute countdown.
EasyTimer
EasyTimer offers three options for PowerPoint countdown timers: A square analog clock, a digital one, and a bar countdown timer.
Just as its name says, it’s very easy to use , and you just need to add your time. You can also customize if you want a ticking noise as the seconds pass and a time’s up alarm.
Breaktime
Breaktime is ideal for those looking for a PowerPoint countdown timer for a presentation’s break . As with Easy Timer, you need to type in how much time you want to countdown.
The best thing about Breaktime is that you can add a themed background to your timer. It offers different design options, like coffee, books, and lunch. This is what the coffee break would look like:
The only downside of these options is that they’re not very customizable. If you have an amazing PowerPoint design, these presentation timers will probably not fit very well. If you want a truly customized feature, chances are you are going to have to do it yourself .
In the next section, I’ll show you how to make your own PowerPoint countdown timer - step by step!
Making your own PowerPoint countdown timer is easier than you might think. Here you’ll find three different versions of PowerPoint timers that are very easy to do on your own.
A bar PowerPoint timer is one of the easiest and most effective ways to convey passing time . You just need to follow these easy instructions:
1. Create the timer shape base
Go to the slide you will work on and draw a bar wherever you want your bar to be. Take into consideration that it’ll look cleaner if the end of the timer (where it’ll disappear towards) fits the border of the slide. Use the Insert tab > Shape > Rectangle to draw it.
2. Add movement
Select the shape and go to the Animations Tab . Select Add Animation , and pick the Fly Out option on the “Exit” group.
3. Make it look like a timer!
Now it’s time to customize the animation so it looks like a countdown timer! On the Animation Tabs , click Effect Options . Here you’ll be able to choose in which direction you want your timer to disappear.
If it’s a vertical bar, To Bottom is your pick! In the case of a horizontal bar PowerPoint timer, select “To Left” or “To Right” as you prefer.
4. Customize your timer’s duration
Finally, let’s add the time. On the far right of the Animation Tab, on the “Timing” group, type into Duration how much time you want your timer to countdown. And now you have a customized PowerPoint countdown timer!
Make sure to check out that its start cue is On click (also in the “Timing” group”) so you can control exactly when the countdown begins. If any of these options are unavailable when you’re trying to follow these instructions, then you might not have your shape selected. Just click on your rectangle and try again!
Making a clock PowerPoint countdown timer is very similar to the bar one, and it’s also very easy.
1. Pick your timer base shape
First, you need to pick the shape that’s going to work as your countdown clock. Take into consideration that it needs to be a shape, not an image. You need to be able to select only the inner circle of the clock (or the part you want to shade), in order to make it work.

2. Pick your timer’s color
Select your shape and use the Shape Format Tab > Shape Fill to add color to it. This is how your countdown clock will look when time’s up.
3. Add movement
While still selecting your shape, go to the Animations Tab > Add Animation > Wheel option in the “Entrance” group.
Now all you need is to type your time in Duration (On the Animation Tab > “Timing” group), just like in the bar PowerPoint timer.
It should end up looking something like this:
Creating a digital countdown timer using VBA macros is a bit more complex, but it allows you to customize it as you wish . To create one, just follow these instructions:
1. Insert a Rectangle Shape
Begin by inserting a rectangle shape into your PowerPoint slide. Use the Insert tab > Shape > Rectangle to draw it.
2. Rename the Shape
Go to Shape Format > Selection Pane , and double-click on the shape's name. Next, rename the shape to "countdown."
3. Access VBA Module
Open the Developer tab > View Code . Right-click on the VBA module and choose Insert > Module.
4. Paste Code
Paste the following code and adjust the time (in seconds) as needed.
Sub countdown()
Dim time As Date time = Now()
Dim count As Integer count = 30 'assuming 30 seconds
time = DateAdd("s", count, time)
Do Until time < Now() DoEvents ActivePresentation.SlideShowWindow.View.Slide.Shapes("countdown").TextFrame.TextRange = Format((time - Now()), "hh:mm:ss") Loop
5. Set up Action on the Slide:
Return to the slide and select the rectangle shape. Go to Insert > Action , and choose Run macro . To confirm your changes, click OK .
6. View your countdown timer in presenter mode
And you’re done! To view your countdown timer, go to the Slide Show Mode and click on the rectangle shape to initiate the countdown.
7. Customize your timer’s appearance
As a final step, you can customize the shape's size, color, font , and any other visual aspects to suit your preferences.

Create an on-screen timer
You can add an animated on-screen timer or progress bar to make your presentation more interesting. For example, you might want to include a timed quiz at the end of a training with a countdown display. You can use the animation features in PowerPoint to create many different kinds of timers.
If you’re looking for a timer to track how long you’ve been speaking to stay within your allotted time limits, see Start the presentation and see your notes in Presenter view .
Tip: You can also find other types of timers, such as stopwatch timers, at the Office Store or use free slide templates to count down one minute , five minutes , and ten minutes for your audience.
Create a countdown timer
This timer uses a simple but dramatic animation sequence. It shows a countdown in one-second intervals from 5 to 1.
Begin by creating five text boxes with numbers 5 through 1. We will animate these to disappear one at a time, in one-second intervals.
Tip: Create the boxes in order from highest to lowest so it’s easier to animate them in order.
To create text boxes, on the Insert tab, in Text group, click Text box , and draw the text box on your slide. Then add the number. You can copy and paste to duplicate and then edit the new boxes.
Click inside the text rectangle with the number.
On the Animations tab, in the Advanced Animation group, click Add Animation , and go down to Exit . Here, you can select the animation you want, for example Disappear .
Select the rest of the rectangles 4, 3, 2, 1 in order, and apply the same exit animation, Disappear , to each, one at a time.
Click Animations > Animation Pane to show the Animation Pane . The numbering of the rectangles can be a little confusing because PowerPoint is accounting for other objects on the slide. Look at the number to the right, which shows the text in the rectangle.
You want only the first rectangle with the number 5 to start on a click, and you want it to stay on screen for one second before it disappears. You want the other boxes to then each wait one second before disappearing automatically, one by one.
Select Rectangle 5 , and in the Animations > Timing group, leave the settings Start: On Click and Duration: .01 , but set Delay to 01.00 , one second.
Now, in the Animation Pane , select the rest of the rectangles one at a time, from 4 to 1. Again, in the Timing group, set the timing details to: Start: After Previous , Duration: Auto , and Delay: 01:00 .
When you’re done, try it out by going to Slideshow Mode and playing From Current Slide . Click to begin the countdown!
You can preview your animation effects any time. On the Animations tab, in the Preview group, click Preview .
After the countdown, you might want to add an animation, such as a text box that reads Finished! To do this, insert the text box, select it, go to Animations > Advanced Animation > Entrance > Appear . Then, in the Timing group, set Start to After Previous , set Duration to Auto , and set Delay to 00.00 . Notice that this text box also appears in the Animation Pane .
Note: You can just as easily animate shapes to appear or disappear using the different entrance and exit animations in PowerPoint. You can use any interval, but it’s a good idea to set the same delay for each object in the sequence.

How to create a progress bar timer
Another effective way to add a countdown timer is to emulate the appearance of a progress bar.
On the Insert tab, in the Illustrations group, click Shapes , and select a rectangle.
On the slide, click where you want the progress bar, and draw a rectangle with its edge against the left border of the slide.
You can color the bar as you like. Right-click the bar and select Format Shape > Shape Options > Fill > Solid fill .
On the Animations tab, in the Animation group, select Fly In .
Click Effect Options and select From Left .
In the Timing group, set the Duration to the number of seconds you want the progress bar to run, for example, 30 seconds. For Start , select On Click .
Here’s what your settings should look like:
When you’re done, try it out by going to Slideshow Mode and playing From Current Slide . Click to begin the timer. The progress bar should appear to grow from the left side of the screen for 30 seconds and then stop.
