Almost half of the doctors work as specialist doctors or surgeons in hospitals and medical institutions. In the field of the medical profession, there are several medical specialities that people choose before practising medicine. For example, if a medical student wants to become a neurosurgeon, he or she has to practice as a sub-specialist in the pediatric neurosurgeon profession. Doctors, therefore, operate in various capacities and act as patients' lifesavers. I sincerely hope that there will be many more responsible and talented doctors in our country who can work dedicatedly and save humanity from the crisis.

The very first doctor is the general practitioner who sees the patient, tries to diagnose the patient, and sends him to the specialist doctor if necessary. Cardiologists, neurosurgeons, immunologists, gynaecologists, etc. are just a few specialized types of doctors. The life of a physician/general practitioner is difficult. Often, in off-hours, he has to visit the patient, foregoing his rest, sleep, and even food.

Sometimes, during the day and night, the doctor must work to treat serious patients or victims of war, epidemics or major accidents. He/She must always treat the patients with a smile and cheer for their patients. They motivate sick people and encourage them. Doctors are a source of hope and fortitude. Even in distress, their obligation to their patient is first. He always remembers the famous Hippocratic oath and promises his life to alleviate the patients' suffering.

India has a long-standing tradition of service to humanity. It is rooted in its culture and all faiths. India is a nation with one of the largest medical reservoirs. It has about 300 medical schools that annually produce about 30,000 doctors. Some doctors practice Ayurved, Unani, and Homeopathy, in addition to allopathy. Innovative treatment practices have also gained popularity in the country, such as Chinese acupuncture and acupressure, yoga, Nature Cure, etc.

A physician does his hardest in times of suffering to cheer up his patients. No matter how tired they are, they're genuinely doing their job. The medical sector has not been left behind with the advancement of technology every day. We see that hospitals are upgrading to new types of equipment and technology which implies that doctors also have to upgrade themselves with the new facilities to keep up with the times. These types of equipment are involved in conducting complex procedures for the treatment of patients who are critically ill.

If I were a doctor, I would first take the oath of fulfilling my duty and responsibility as a doctor in the right manner. I would do my work with full dedication and honesty. For me, my duty towards patients would be the first one. I would stay cool and calm in all types of situations and even handle the most critical cases with care.

If I were a doctor, I would make sure that I treat people with full sincerity. I would treat every patient personally and monitor them throughout their treatment so they recover soon. I would offer free treatment to those people who cannot afford to go to hospitals and are poor. In this way, I would do social work. I would spend my weekends in the service of the poor, the needy and the socially backward people who are suffering from diseases and need treatment and care. I would not work just to earn money. Serving the people would be my first priority to me, and money would only be secondary.

If I were a doctor, I would have helped people during the COVID-19 pandemic. I would have given myself to the service of the people. There were so many people who died during COVID because of not getting treatment. There was a lack of doctors and nurses in the hospitals. I would have isolated myself from my family and treated the patients by staying at the hospital only. I would have spread awareness among the people regarding the cause of the spread of coronavirus and told them how they could save themselves.

If I were a doctor, I would recommend people opt for a healthy lifestyle. I would motivate them to do daily yoga and exercise for at least 30 minutes. People should devote themselves to physical exercise if they want to stay healthy and fit. They should eat healthy food and follow a properly balanced diet. I would recommend people cut down on fast food and street food. I would organise awareness campaigns related to the consumption of alcohol, tobacco, cigarettes, drugs etc. and educate people regarding their harmful effects.

Doctors are considered gods as they bring back life and treat illness. A good doctor is a blessing to society and the country, and that is why I would love to be a doctor.

(I am not the only one who liked Montori’s talk: Legendary health journo Dan Munro put the talk on his Forbes list of “ Top Ten Healthcare Quotes of 2013 .”)

No. 3: Sally Okun, TEDMED 2013

Consider this: Sally Okun was the first nurse ever to speak at TEDMED . Then consider what she said in her talk: “We silence the words and stories of those at the center of healthcare… ”

She meant patients. But I think, and Okun confirmed it for me soon after her speech , that it was appropriate for a nurse to urge healthcare to listen and speak to patients on their terms.

No. 4: Jeff Rohrs, Cleveland Clinic Patient Experience Summit 2014

Jeff Rohrs, an executive from ExactTarget, reminded me of how much healthcare can learn from outsiders. He walked in untethered to healthcare’s dogma and passionately talked about marketing techniques from other sectors and how they can help change medicine.

Rohrs’ talk is not online ( I’ve included his presentation deck and much of his talk is based off his book, Audience) . While he’s given similar talks , Rohrs doesn’t address healthcare in those speeches. That connection was what made the Patient Experience presentation so great.

No. 5: Dr. Eric Topol, 2011 mHealth Summit

This was Dr. Eric Topol’s coming-out party – his kairos , if you will. The Creative Destruction of Medicine officially hit the shelves that day , and so much of the vision he delivered that day is part of the common discourse for innovators. It’s also fascinating to listen to this and hear what’s changed in his discussions today.

The talk is almost five years old, but that is so long ago in Innovation Years I feel like it’s in a time capsule.

Topol’s first question to the audience: “How many of you are on Twitter?”

A bonus: I know when the next great healthcare talk will happen.

I – Shivika Sharma from Class – XII (B) – welcome everyone to the speech ceremony. First of all I would like to thank my teacher for giving me this opportunity to speak. I have inhibitions and so it becomes difficult for me to speak. However, this opportunity will help me overcome my inhibitions and give me the confidence to put my thoughts across.

My speech topic is on Doctor. Friends, you may not find the topic intriguing, but I respect the profession of a doctor a lot. There have been times when I was falling very ill, my health continued to deteriorate and I gave up on my life. Despite undergoing several medical treatments, I couldn’t get better. Then we were introduced to Mr. ………, one of the famous child specialists, by our family friends. He came into my life like a blessing. He diagnosed my problem and helped me in healing my illness. He well understood my psychological and mental conditions.

I used to remain under his constant care and guidance. He helped me heal both mentally and physically so much so that I felt he gave me a new lease of life. I can’t thank him enough for helping me out in so many ways, but one. So I firmly believe that doctors are like Gods who give us a new life.

Their profession therefore should be respected and they should be revered. Doctors are responsible for maintaining and restoring human health by recommending right medicines. They have to diagnose and treat various human conditions, pain, injuries, ailments and diseases. The problems are usually assessed through certain tests and by listening to the problem of the patients. Then the doctor applies his knowledge and scientific bent of mind in order to treat the medical conditions of the patients. Since there are several medical conditions; the doctors to treat those illnesses are not the same. There are different doctors for treating different medical conditions.

The need for doctors is required everywhere whether it’s the public health organizations, hospitals, teaching institutions, group practices and private practices. Their career is very challenging and diverse and they have to be very responsible in their profession because the life of the patients is in their hands.

Nearly half of the doctors are seen in hospitals and medical institutions, where they either work as specialized doctors or surgeon. There are several medical specialties in the field of medical profession which individuals choose before practicing medicine. For instance, if a medical student wishes to become a neurosurgeon, he/she has to practice in this profession of pediatric neurosurgeon as a sub-specialist.

So doctors works in different capacities and act as life saviors for the patients. I sincerely hope that our country produces many more responsible and talented doctors who can work dedicatedly and save humanity from the situation of crisis.

Warm Greetings of the Day Everyone – How you all are doing?

I – Dr. Ashish Kalra from ABC Hospital, Moti Bagh – welcome everyone to our hospital. As you all know that we have organized this event with the sole aim to support our trust that aids in the medical treatment of women and children. Founded five years back, our hospital is achieving milestones after milestones since then and there’s no looking back. Out of approximately 12,937 cases for surgical operations, we have been able to successfully handle about 11,500 cases and in the other scenarios the need for the foreign doctors were called upon.

It’s a matter of great pride to me as a doctor that we are working in a great solidarity as a team and as a family of doctors by handling our patients in the best way possible and by providing them with the best of medical facilities. However, sometimes we also fail as doctors and when we fail we are terribly criticized and humiliated. This makes my heart sad and therefore I ponder over it so much that I sometimes decide to quit this profession. Friends, I’m being very honest with you! The calling of my profession is such that you can’t help but act responsibly and be a constant support to your team and to my patients who look up to me with a lot of hope in their eyes.

This profession is very demanding and involves a lot of our mental faculty as well as vigilance because a slight negligence on our part can cost the lives of our patients. When we are in the operation theatre, everyone’s expectations are with us and we are bound by the hopes and belief of the patient’s family. This belief has so much of power that even God also blesses us with some divine power and we perform our best. When the operation is successful, we feel extremely joyful and it gives us a sense of huge accomplishment. The feeling is simply indescribable!

The operations are carried out on a huge risk and the onus lies on the doctors. In the entire 7 years span of my career, I have always been on my toes and tried to offer maximum support to my patients. With this aim in our minds, me and my team of doctors, thought of laying down the foundation of this trust so that we could also help those people who can afford expensive medical treatments. Since the foundation of this trust, we have been able to give our support to more than 5,000 patients and save their lives.

Therefore, on the successful working of our trust and of course our hospital, we would like to congratulate everyone and share this big day with our well wishers and our friends. So thank you everyone for making to this day and supporting us in every possible way. I sincerely hope that you all will continue to support us in our journey so that we could serve society in the most effective manner possible.

Hon’ble Principal, Vice Principal, Respected Professors, Committee Members and My Dear Friends – Warm Greetings to all of you!

I – Samiksha Dutt from Medical Course – welcome everyone to our college auditorium! I am in the final year of my course and as I am going to become a doctor very soon, I am realizing the kind of big responsibility that this position holds. It is not a profession just to make huge money, but it’s a profession practiced for the betterment of mankind. This profession gives new life to people, gives them a ray of hope and helps them in leading a good, healthy life.

So we cannot practice it purely for mercenary purpose. We have to keep people’s health over our own monetary gain. We are taught to be kind, to be patient and to be vigilant enough while dealing with the patients. Situations may be rough and challenging, but we have to remain calm and composed. Even if the condition of a patient is serious and critical, we are expected to remain optimistic and emotionally support the patient’s family. Am I right, friends? However, this isn’t easy and sometimes even we may lose our mental equilibrium.

But we cannot afford to let lose ourselves and have to remain mentally strong to be able to tackle the most heart rending situations. This is the calling of a doctor! We have to mentally and physically assess the state of a patient and diagnose the medical condition to be able to give him/her the right prescription.

Different doctors have different areas of expertise in one particular category of medicine. Now let me tell you about the most common types of doctors:

• Cardiologist

A cardiologist is someone who has a specialization in assessing, diagnosing and treating medical conditions related to heart, the veins and arteries.

• Neurosurgeon

A neurosurgeon is someone who has specialized in the assessment and surgical treatment of the disorder of the peripheral and the central nervous system. This consists of the congenital anomalies, stroke, spine or infections of the brain, vascular disorders, tumors and the degenerative spine ailments.

• Immunologist

An immunologist is someone who specializes in handling the problems connected with the immune system, like autoimmune diseases and allergies. A few immunologists only do the research and seek to understand the way immune system functions and to help better develop the ways and the means of providing the treatment for various immunological conditions.

• Gynecologist

A gynecologist is someone who has gained specialization in the female reproductive system. Some gynecologists are certified as obstetricians and they will diagnose the mother’s health and the health of the fetus at the time of pregnancy.

Dentists are responsible for diagnosing and identifying the probable oral health conditions, like swelling in gums, bleeding, etc. They observe the condition of the patients, conduct medical tests and prepare the report. They also undertake oral surgeries and take out the teeth and also look after other dental health concerns.

I – Smriti Vashisht from Standard XII (A) – welcome everyone to the speech ceremony of today. My speech topic for today is Speech on Doctor. You all may be wondering why I want to deliver a speech on doctor. I respect this profession and I believe that doctors are a boon for the mankind. They give a new lease of life to us when we are suffering from any serious medical condition and they help us in identifying our body illnesses.

If I were to give the technical description of a Doctor, it would go like this. A doctor or a physician is someone who treats illnesses by diagnosing and prescribing medicines thereby helping in improving the health of a patient. In several countries, the most basic degree makes a person eligible to practice the profession of a doctor and prescribe medicines during the treatment. A physician is someone who also performs surgeries after having trained in medical colleges and practicing as an intern. They are awarded a degree by a recognized medical institution.

As we all know that doctors operate in hospitals and medical centers, open up their own clinics and may even give personal visits to their patients. They are also recruited in schools, big companies, military departments and sports teams. Medical doctors have nurses to assist them in the treatment of their patients.

There are some physicians who are specialists in handling a particular disease or may treat only one part of our body. We call these doctors as specialists. For instance, we have doctors who specialize only in treating the diseases connected with our intestines or stomach. Other doctors are called as family practitioners or general practitioners. This suggests that they treat a bit of everything. The very first doctor is the general practitioner who sees the patient, tries to diagnose him/her and if need be send him/her to the specialist doctor.

Here is the mention of a few specialized types of doctors:

• Anesthesiologist

He is someone who is responsible for ensuring a pain-free, safe and comfortable surgery of his patients at the time of surgery by giving him/her general or local anesthetic.

• Coroner or Medical Examiner

This term ‘Coroner’ carries multiple meanings based on the country that one lives in. A few coroners are expert physicians or medical practitioners having trained in forensic pathology.

• Colorectal Surgeon

He/she is the one who specializes in the treatment of such diseases as rectum, colon and anus, including the whole gastric passage. These surgeons operate in close association with the urologists, who treat the urogenital tract in men and the urinary passages of women, gastroenterologists who treat ailments of the gut and gynecologists who handle specific female issues.

• Family Practitioners

A family practitioner is someone who specializes in looking after the health of an entire family. Their patients can be adults, children as well as adults who treat a whole range of medical diseases.

Expert advice on how to give a compelling talk to any audience

Chances are, most doctors will be called upon to do some public speaking at some point in their careers. Whether you’re giving a patient education seminar , presenting at a medical conference, or speaking on a panel, here are some tips and best practices from the experts to make the experience go smoothly.

Know your audience. Presenting at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery annual meeting is very different than giving a patient education seminar about LASIK. Keep your audience in mind when creating your presentation, said Robert Sternberg, Ph.D. , a former president of the American Psychological Association (APA). Is the audience going to be mainly fellow health professionals who will understand medical terminology? Or are you speaking to a general audience who may not be familiar with clinical explanations? What does your audience want to learn? What would you like them to take away from your talk?

One surefire way to connect with an audience on an emotional level is to tell a story related to your topic.

Make an emotional connection. Hooking your audience and keeping them listening till the end of your talk requires more than having an interesting topic, solid facts, and an engaging speaking voice. “What emotion do you want your audience to feel during and at the end of your presentation?” asked Robert A. Felberg, M.D., in a post about public speaking for doctors . Do you want them to experience hope, confidence, or inspiration? “One surefire way to address the emotional feelings of the audience is to tell a story related to the topic,” he wrote. For example, don’t just talk about cataracts; tell a story about a patient who was able to watch his grandchildren play soccer after having cataract surgery.

Prepare and practice. While this may seem like an obvious tip, doctors often skip or skimp on preparation, either due to time constraints or overconfidence, said George M. Hall, Ph.D., D.Sc., professor of anesthesia at St. George’s University of London in the UK and author of How to Present at Meetings, in ENT Today . Dr. Hall’s rule of thumb is one hour of preparation for every minute of a presentation. “That’s hopefully a little bit too much if you’re particularly familiar with the topic, but if you’re starting from scratch, it’s probably about right.”

Harness the power of the pause. A common mistake many public speakers make is rushing through their presentation. “Nervousness makes people speak faster, with a higher pitch to their voice and without pausing,” notes an article by U.K. consulting company ISC Medical . Whereas “more relaxed people speak more slowly, pause regularly and have a deeper, more authoritative tone of voice.” Nothing grabs an audience’s attention like a pause. It allows listeners and note-takers to catch up with you, it can emphasize an important point, and it re-focuses the audience’s attention on you. Two seconds is the ideal length for a dramatic pause, according to the article.

Using multimedia tools like slides and video reaches visual learners and makes your talk more dynamic, engaging, and interactive.

Use visuals. People don’t learn just by listening. An estimated 65 percent to 85 percent of the population is thought to be visual learners – people who retain information better by seeing pictures and videos. Use visual tools such as slides or video in your presentation.

However, don’t let technology obscure what you’re trying to say, warned Barry Schwartz, Ph.D., in an article titled “ 10 tips for speaking like a Ted Talk pro .” “PowerPoint is incredibly powerful, but use it to get halfway there, rather than expecting it to do the whole job for you.”

Encourage interaction. Another reason to use different media in your talk is to make it more dynamic and compelling, according to Kristi Hedges , leadership coach and author of the book, The Power of Presence: Unlock Your Potential to Influence and Engage Others . Consider ways you could use slides, video, props, handouts, or even spontaneous polls to engage your audience, she suggested. And of course, always leave time for questions at the end of your presentation.  

“A doctor with excellent public speaking skills will always be in demand,” noted Dr. Felberg. Having the ability to educate and inform a group has several benefits, he stated, “including engaging a large audience of potential patients and referring doctors, instant expert status, and the opportunity to network with thought leaders.”

Maintain complete composure during the pause so that the doctors do not fear that you have forgotten what you were saying, or perhaps that you are angry or waiting for anything in particular. If you wish, say a few more words only to be followed by yet another silent period. In less than a minute you will have taken complete ownership of the room as all attention has turned to you, waiting for what you have to say next.

6. Start with humor

Laughter is a fun way to draw people’s focus. If you are confident that you will make your listeners laugh, using humor is a strong way of opening a presentation to doctors. The first step however is knowing your audience. You must know what the doctors in front of you will find funny or amusing before you bust out your best joke-telling skills. Then make sure your joke is relevant to your topic as well. A joke is meant to loosen the audience and make them feel comfortable and open to what you are about to say. ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Donald Trump made little effort to stay on message Wednesday at a rally in North Carolina that his campaign billed as a big economic address, mixing pledges to slash energy prices and “unleash economic abundance” with familiar off-script tangents on Democratic nominee Kamala Harris’ laugh, the mechanics of wind energy and President Joe Biden’s son.

The 75-minute speech featured a litany of broad policy ideas and even grander promises to end inflation , bolster already record-level U.S. energy production and raise Americans’ standard of living. But those pronouncements were often lost in the former president’s typically freewheeling, grievance-laden style that has made it difficult for him to answer the enthusiasm of Harris’ nascent campaign.

Trump aired his frustration over Democrats swapping the vice president in place of Biden at the top of their presidential ticket. He repeatedly denigrated San Francisco, where Harris was once the district attorney, as “unlivable” and went after his rival in deeply personal terms, questioning her intelligence, saying she has “the laugh of a crazy person” and musing that Democrats were being “politically correct” in trying to elevate the first Black woman and person of South Asian descent to serve as vice president.

“You know why she hasn’t done an interview? She’s not smart. She’s not intelligent. And we’ve gone through enough of that with this guy, Crooked Joe,” Trump said, using the nickname he often uses for Biden.

When he was focusing on policy, Trump pledged to end “job-killing regulations,” roll back Biden-era restrictions on fossil fuel production and investments in green energy, instruct Cabinet members to use “every tool” to “defeat inflation” within the first year of a second term and end all taxes on Social Security benefits and income classified as tips.

He promised economic growth so abundant that “we will pay off all our debt,” similar to a pledge he made in 2016 before the national debt ballooned during his presidency. He pledged to lower Americans’ energy costs by “50 to 70%” within 12 months, or a “maximum 18 months.” But he immediately hedged: “If it doesn’t work out, you’ll say, ‘oh well, I voted for him and he still got it down a lot.’”

At one point, Trump seemed even to question the purpose of giving a speech ostensibly devoted to the economy. “They wanted to do a speech on the economy,” he riffed, apparently referring to his campaign aides. “They say it’s the most important subject. I’m not sure it is.”

Trump spoke at Harrah’s Cherokee Center, an auditorium in downtown Asheville, with his podium flanked by more than a dozen American flags and custom backdrops that read: “No tax on Social Security” and “No tax on tips” — a made-for-TV setup to project the policy heft his campaign wanted Trump to convey.

Republicans had been looking for him to focus more on the economy than the scattershot arguments and attacks he has made on Harris since Democrats shifted to her as their presidential nominee. Twice in the past week, Trump has virtually bypassed such opportunities, first in an hourlong news conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, then in a 2 1/2-hour conversation on the social media platform X with CEO Elon Musk.

When he stayed on script Wednesday, Trump contrasted the current economy with his own presidency, asking, “Is anything less expensive under Kamala Harris and Crooked Joe?”

“Kamala has declared that tackling inflation will be a ‘Day One priority’ for her,” Trump said. “But Day One for Kamala was 3 1/2 years ago. Why hasn’t she done it?”

Yet throughout his speech, Trump ping-ponged between his prepared remarks and familiar attacks — deviating from the teleprompter in the middle of explaining a new economic promise when something triggered another thought. He ticked through prepared remarks crisply and quickly. The rest was his more freewheeling style, punctuated with hand gestures and hyperbole.

More than once, he jumped from a policy contrast with Harris to taking another swipe at her hometown of San Francisco. He also noted several times that it was Biden, not Harris, who earned votes from Democratic primary voters. During a section of his speech on energy, he slipped in an apparent dig at Hunter Biden, the president’s son, and his “laptop from hell.”

Trump sought to connect his emphasis on the border and immigration policy to the economy. He repeated his dubious claim that the influx would strain Social Security and Medicare to the point of collapse. He bemoaned the taxpayer money being spent on housing migrants in some U.S. cities, including his native New York. But most of the time he spent on immigration was the same broadsides about immigrants and violent crime that have been a staple of Trump’s speeches since 2015.

The latest attempt to reset his campaign comes in the state that delivered Trump his closest statewide margin of victory four years ago and that is once again expected to be a battleground in 2024.

Trump aides have long thought that an inflationary economy was an albatross for Democrats this year. But the event in Asheville only amplifies questions about whether Trump can effectively make it a centerpiece of his matchup against Harris.

The speech came the same day that the Labor Department reported that year-over-year inflation reached its lowest level in more than three years in July, a potential reprieve for Harris in the face of Trump’s attacks over inflation. Harris plans to be in North Carolina on Friday to release more details of her promise to make “building up the middle class ... a defining goal of my presidency.”

A new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research finds that Americans are more likely to trust Trump over Harris when it comes to handling the economy, but the difference is slight — 45% for Trump and 38% for Harris.

Some voters who came to hear Trump said they were ready to hear him talk more specifically about his plans, not because they don’t already trust him but because they want him to expand his appeal ahead of Election Day.

“He needs to tell people what he’s going to do, talk about the issues,” said Timothy Vath, a 55-year-old who drove from Greenville, South Carolina. “He did what he said he was going to do” in his initial term. “Talk about how he’d do that again.”

Mona Shope, a 60-year-old from nearby Candler, said Trump, despite his own wealth, “understands working people and wants what’s best for us.” A recent retiree from a public community college, Shope said she has a state pension but has picked up part-time work to mitigate against inflation. “It’s so I can still have vacations and spending money after paying my bills,” she said. “Sometimes it feels like there’s nothing left to save.”

In some of his off-script moments, Trump ventured into familiar misrepresentations of fact, including when he mocked wind energy by suggesting people would face power outages when the wind wasn’t blowing.

Trump again insisted that inflation would not have spiked had he been reelected in 2020, a claim that ignores the global supply chain interruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic, COVID-19 spending boosts that included a massive aid package Trump signed as president, and the global energy price effects of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

A Harris aide said Wednesday that the vice president welcomes any comparison Trump is able to make.

“No matter what he says, one thing is certain: Trump has no plan, no vision, and no meaningful interest in helping build up the middle class,” communications director Michael Tyler wrote in a campaign memo. Florida doc not wearing hearing aid couldn't hear colonoscopy patient screaming: complaint

According to the florida board of medicine, dr. ishwari prasad couldn't hear the patients yelling in pain because he wasn't wearing his hearing aids. he's not allowed to perform colonoscopies for now..

A Florida doctor is facing disciplinary action after state officials say his failure to wear hearing aids during a colonoscopy left a patient screaming in pain.

According to a Florida Department of Health administrative complaint reviewed by USA TODAY, gastroenterologist Dr. Ishwari Prasad was placed on probation by the state's Board of Medicine after two colonoscopy procedures went wrong under his care.

In one instance at the Tampa Ambulatory Surgery Center in June 2023, Prasad "improperly delegated" tasks to a surgical tech, the complaint reads. The tech did not have a medical license but was instructed by Prasad to perform at least one inappropriate task from a list that includes scope insertion, scope manipulation, manipulating an instrument over polyps or tissue, or removing polyps or tissue.

Prasad is hearing-impaired and uses hearing aids in compliance with what the complaint calls the "minimum prevailing professionals standard of care" to allow him to hear and communicate during procedures.

However, Prasad was not wearing the hearing aids for at least one, if not both, of the procedures detailed in the complaint, rendering the surgical team "unable to effectively communicate" with him, according to the complaint.

Prasad did not immediately return USA TODAY's request for comment Friday.

Doctor failed to hear patient's screams of pain: complaint

The second colonoscopy performed under Prasad that day was on a patient who was not yet fully sedated, the complaint says. During the procedure, Prasad began inserting the scope prematurely, causing the patient to begin yelling, the complaint says.

"(Prasad) did not immediately stop the procedure when it became apparent that (the patient) was not fully sedated," and he failed to realize it because he could not hear the yells, says the complaint. Tasks were also inappropriately delegated to a non-licensed tech during the procedure, the complaint says.

The Miami Herald reported that an emergency restriction order from September provided more details on the second procedure, saying the sedation issue originally arose due to a problem with the patient's IV line.

According to the Herald, the order said that Prasad "continued to insert the scope despite being told to wait and began to thrust the scope into (the patient’s) rectum while (the patient) shouted in pain."

“(The patient) began to yell and shouted that he was in pain and could still feel everything,” the order said, according to the Herald. “Dr. Prasad continued to move the scope while (the patient) continued to scream.”

The outlet also reported that a hospital administrator had been present in the room and told Prasad he needed to wait, to which the gastroenterologist "leaned over (the patient) and shouted "I know!" to the administrator, yet continued to manipulate the scope.”

Placed on probation

Prasad, who has been licensed to practice in Florida since 1990, has been placed on probation as a result of the complaints. He was also fined $7,500 and must pay an additional $6,301 in case costs. He is required to take a five-hour course on continuing medical education in laws, rules and ethics before the deadline of Aug. 7, 2025.

Prasad's probation means he will not be able to perform any procedures on his own until he either is evaluated for competency by one of the multiple designated programs or performs 10 gastroenterology procedures “under the supervision of a physician" who will then make a recommendation to the probation committee.

"We want justice, we want justice" echoes through the streets of the Indian capital.

Hundreds of doctors and medical staff were protesting on the streets of Delhi this weekend against the brutal rape and murder of their colleague.

It is an unprecedented campaign that has resulted in a 24-hour strike at all government hospitals.

They were also being joined in solidarity by private practitioners across the country.

The Indian Medical Association, which has more than 1,700 branches and a membership of 350,000 doctors, called for the strike from 6am on Saturday to the same time on Sunday.

It is the biggest industrial action by Indian doctors in a decade and means all services apart from emergency care are being left unmanned.

Numbers involved are reported to be around a million.

Dr Smita Malhotra, a paediatrician at the protest in Delhi, told Sky News: "This incident is reflective of the rot in our society, of the disrespect that there is towards women and towards the profession itself. The attacks on doctors are increasing day by day and they are getting worse."

The brutality of the crime has shaken everyone here.

On 9 August, a female doctor was resting after a long shift at the RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata. The following morning her body was found mutilated, sexually assaulted and murdered.

Her mother was the last to speak to her at 11.15pm. When she tried calling her in the morning, she didn't pick up.

Doctors at the hospital began calling for a proper investigation and a few nights later the hospital was vandalised. Some doctors at a vigil were beaten up.

The Kolkata High Court intervened when it felt the local police were incompetent in handling the case.

The investigation was given to the Central Bureau of Investigation, a federal agency.

A 31-year-old civil volunteer has since been taken into custody.

'How can we work when we're not safe?'

Dr Kumari Acharya, a neurologist at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, told Sky News: "There are atrocities against doctors every day but doctors aren't usually prepared to protest as we know it will harm our patients.

"But this time everybody has come forward because this was such a grave incident.

"Hospitals are our homes, we spend many hours here and still this is happening to us. How can we serve people if we ourselves are not safe?"

At the Lady Harding Hospital, there was a brief stand-off between doctors and the police.

Officers locked the gates to prevent doctors marching - but following reassurances it would be non-violent, the protesters were finally allowed to enter the cordoned-off street.

Speaking to Sky News, Dr Pankaj Garg, a paediatrician from the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, said: "My daughter is working as an intern at Lady Harding medical college.

"She was on night duty three days back, I called her three times during the night to find out if she was okay, that is the type of fear we parents have now."

The medical associations are demanding a central protection act across the country to provide a thorough overhaul of working conditions and guaranteed safe spaces for resident doctors.

They are also calling for a swift investigation, justice, and family compensation in the latest case.

Dr Garg says: "If we are not safe in our hospitals then this health system will crumble.

"We want a central protection law, the safety of our doctors is paramount. Legislators say this is a health issue, but a doctor's safety is not a health issue, it's a fundamental right. The government needs to do its basic duty and responsibility of saving me as a citizen."

Case reminiscent of 2012 student murder

This case is a sad reminder of the brutal gang rape and murder of a physiotherapy student in Delhi in 2012.

The fury and anger of that incident caused nationwide protests.

New laws were enacted, older ones strengthened, punishments made more severe, and fast-track courts established to try cases of crimes against women. But there seems to be little change on the ground.

The latest figures from the National Crime Records Bureau show the number of rape cases in the country has increased.

In 2022, police recorded 31,516 reports of rape, an increase of 20% on the previous year. That is around 86 rapes a day nationwide. Conviction rates are also low.

Dr Acharya says: "Yesterday after my shift I felt scared to go to my duty room so I stayed in the ward where there were more people.

"We are living in fear. We're being given a choice of how to die, by disease or by a brutal rape and murder."

Doctors want protection and a better working environment - but many here have heard this before and expect little to change.

As the Eleven explained his outlook on life in this episode, he summed it all up by defining himself as “the optimist.” Not only is it a sweet quote from Matt Smith’s Doctor, it’s also lovely words to live by.

Ending out a historic run, Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor left us with an iconic line before tagging a familiar face, David Tennant, as the Fourteenth Doctor .  

"I’m not sure if any of that matters. Friends. Enemies. So long as there is mercy. Always, mercy." - Twelfth Doctor in “The Witch's Familiar” 

Rather than killing Davros, the Twelfth Doctor showed mercy, which is a core value of his. Even though the Daleks have tried to destroy him over and over again, he continues to see the best in everyone, even those who seem inherently evil.

Christopher Eccleston’s Doctor may not be the most chipper, however, when he got excited he’d yell “Fantastic!” which was always a joy to hear.

The weeping angels – a monster essential to understanding Doctor Who –  are single-handedly one of the scariest creatures on the show. That became very apparent in “Blink” as the Tenth Doctor explained that if you bat an eye, you could end up dead, because you never know when the lurking angel statues will get you.

Before Matt Smith was playing the menacing Daemon in the House of the Dragon cast , he was frolicking across space and time as the Eleventh Doctor. However, like the Targaryen prince he plays, Eleven had a knack for holding his ground, which is exactly what happened in Smith’s very first episode of Doctor Who through this line.

Anytime The Doctor has to talk about their past, it’s always sad. However, the timelord is also aware of how good things can be as well. So, when speaking about taking care of the world after returning, he implores those he’s with to “be happy,” and not dwell on the end.  

"Allons-y!" -Tenth Doctor’s Catchphrase 

While the other Doctors’ catchphrases are in English, David Tennant’s fan-favorite Tenth Doctor decided to get fancy and make his French. Honestly, every time I hear “Allons-y” – which means “let’s go” – I smile. 

"Just this once, everybody lives!" -Ninth Doctor in  “The Doctor Dances” 

“The Doctor Dances” and the child who keeps asking “are you my mummy” is one of the most emotional Doctor Who episodes. That's in great part because after the Doctor succeeds, he has a moment of elation as he exclaims that for once, finally, everybody lived.  

"Geronimo!" -Eleventh Doctor’s Catchphrase 

You can always count on Matt Smith’s Doctor and his catchy catchphrase! Filled with optimism and youthful energy, as “geronimo” implies, he was ready to jump into any situation.

While Peter Capaldi’s Doctor was known for being the grumpiest of the bunch, he was also wise and caring, as you can tell with this sweet and inspirational quote from his final moments before Jodie Whittaker took over as the Thirteenth Doctor.

While the Eleventh Doctor’s formal catchphrase is “Geronimo,” he also repeats this line enough it should be considered one too. What can he say, the man loves a bowtie, and we love him for it. 

"I don't want to go!" -Tenth Doctor in “The End of Time” 

It’s always sad when a Doctor regenerates, however, Ten’s was extra emotional, because he didn’t want to leave. David Tennant truly loved playing the Doctor, and you could feel the sadness as he said goodbye. Luckily, he didn’t leave forever as he came back for “Day of the Doctor” and he returned again for the 60th Anniversary as the Fourteenth iteration of the time lord.  

"I'm just a traveler. Sometimes I see things need fixing, I do what I can." -Thirteenth Doctor in “The Woman Who Fell to Earth” 

From the jump, when Jodie Whittaker took over as The Doctor, she made it clear that she is still the time lord we know and love as she explained that she’d do whatever she could to help fix things.  

"I hate being wrong in public. Everybody forget that happened." -Twelfth Doctor in “Deep Breath” 

In Peter Capaldi’s first episode as The Doctor he made it very clear that he absolutely hates being wrong in public, and who can blame him? It also established his snarky sense of humor immediately.   

"I will always remember when the Doctor was me." -Eleventh Doctor in “The Time Of The Doctor” 

While the Eleventh Doctor looks the youngest, he actually lives longer than almost all their other generations. After spending over 1,000 years in this body, he knows it is time to go. However, as he said on his way out, he’ll always remember this generation of being the Doctor.

The Doctor has sick burns up their sleeves every once in a while, but this was not one of those moments. However, what matters is David Tennant’s Doctor tried. In this episode the tipsy time lord waltzed in to save Rose with his tie on his head and drink in hand hurling insults like this at the evil Victorian robots.

If there’s one thing the Doctor truly believes in it’s how vital all life is, and how everyone deserves to feel valued. He made that clear during this Christmas special when Matt Smith’s time lord said this memorable line. 

"If I was still a bloke, I could get on with the job and not have to waste time defending myself." -Thirteenth Doctor in “The Witchfinders” 

Jodie Whittaker made history as the first woman to play the Doctor. In the show, she had some iconic lines – like this one which happened after she was accused of witchcraft – about how the time lord’s experience differs when they’re a woman, and why just because she doesn’t look like the men she’s been before, she shouldn’t be treated differently. 

"Time travel is like visiting Paris: You can't just read the guidebook. You need to throw yourself in. Eat the food, use the wrong verbs, get charged double, and end up kissing total strangers." -Ninth Doctor in “The Long Game” 

One of my favorite genres of Doctor quotes is when they describe how time travel works. At times it’s wibbly-wobbly, as we discussed, and in the Ninth Doctor’s words it’s like “Paris.” You need to go in with an open mind and be ready to “use the wrong verbs,” cause like French when you aren’t fluent in the language, time travel is super confusing.  

"It’s okay, I understand. You’re an idiot." -Twelfth Doctor in “Under the Lake” 

When one guy tried to question Twelve's logic, Capaldi’s time lord responded with his signature snark and sarcasm, saying that it’s OK that he didn’t understand, because he’s “an idiot.” 

"Lives change worlds. People can save planets or wreck them. That’s the choice. Be the best of humanity." -Thirteenth Doctor in “Orphan 55” 

When Thirteen and her pals go to a resort that turns out to have some horrifying secrets, she helps save the day and teaches everyone, including the audience watching the episode, that we should always be trying to be the best of humanity.  

"Right, physics! Physics, eh? Physics, physics, physics, physics, physics…" -Tenth Doctor in “School Reunion” 

Somehow, the Tenth Doctor found himself teaching the youths about physics, and before hopping into his complex lecture, he started by simply saying the word over, and over, and over again. It was hilarious, especially considering the incredibly smart words that came out of his mouth after this silly moment.  

“We’re all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?” -Eleventh Doctor in “The Big Bang” 

When Eleven thinks he’s going to lose Amy Pond, he tells her their story. At this point, he thinks they’re parting ways and that when Karen Gillan ’s character wakes up she won’t remember. So, he simply tells her that he’ll be a story in her head, and that at least the time they shared created a great story. 

"You want weapons? We’re in a library! Books, the best weapons in the world! This room is the greatest arsenal we could have. Arm yourself!" -Tenth Doctor  in “Tooth and Claw”

The Doctor never uses weapons. He uses his sonic screwdriver and wit to solve his problems, which is one of their most admirable qualities. So, it made sense that when someone asked if they had weapons to fight the bad guys, Ten responded saying the books that surrounded them would help them more than any weapon.  

"Shut up. Just shut up, shut up, shut up, shutetty up, up, up!" -Twelfth Doctor in “Time Heist” 

Every once in a while the Twelfth Doctor would let his sass fly, and this was one of those moments as he realized to defeat the clone and find the architect they needed to use their eyes. 

"I am definitely a madman with a box!" -Eleventh Doctor in “The Eleventh Hour” 

When The Doctor and Amy meet, she calls him a “madman with a box,” which he 100% is, and he agrees, as he confirms it right to her face during one of their first interactions.  

"Who I am is where I stand. Where I stand is where I fall." -Twelfth Doctor in “The Doctor Falls” 

When Twelve faces the Master, he gives a speech that lays out his moral mission and his goal to save everyone he can, because it’s the kind thing to do. It’s a harrowing moment, and it perfectly describes how Capaldi’s Doctor saw his mission.

As The Doctor continues to travel around time and space, I’m sure they will deliver more iconic lines that are just as funny, motivational and important as the ones above. Doctor Who has been on for over 60 years for a reason, and its incredible writing and quotes are a big reason why.

Americans’ views of offensive speech aren’t necessarily clear-cut

About six-in-ten U.S. adults (62%) say that “people being too easily offended by things others say” is a major problem in the country today.

In a separate question, 47% say that “people saying things that are very offensive to others” is a major problem, according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted in April.

Pew Research Center conducted this analysis to understand Americans’ views on whether offensive speech – and people being too easily offended by what others say – are major problems for the country. For this analysis, we surveyed 8,709 U.S. adults from April 8 to 14, 2024.

Everyone who took part in this survey is a member of the Center’s American Trends Panel (ATP), an online survey panel that is recruited through national, random sampling of residential addresses. This way nearly all U.S. adults have a chance of selection. The survey is weighted to be representative of the U.S. adult population by gender, race, ethnicity, partisan affiliation, education and other categories. Read more about the ATP’s methodology . There are substantial differences in these views between Republicans and Democrats.

• Eight-in-ten Republicans and Republican-leaning independents say people being too easily offended by what others say is a major problem. By comparison, 45% of Democrats and Democratic leaners say the same.
• In contrast, Democrats are more likely than Republicans to say that people saying things that are very offensive is a major problem in the country today. A 59% majority of Democrats say this, compared with 34% of Republicans.

Looking at Americans’ views on these two questions together, about a third (32%) say that people being too easily offended by things others say and people saying very offensive things to others are both major problems.

About as many Americans (30%) say people taking offense too easily is a major problem, but very offensive speech is not. A much smaller share (15%) say that people saying very offensive things is a major problem, but people too easily taking offense isn’t. And another 23% say that neither is a major problem in the country.

Sizable shares within both parties say both issues are major problems – 30% of Republicans and 32% of Democrats say this.

However, half of Republicans, compared with just 12% of Democrats, say people being too easily offended is a major problem, but people saying very offensive things isn’t. Slightly more than half of conservative Republicans (53%) hold this combination of views, along with 44% of moderate and liberal Republicans.

By contrast, about a quarter of Democrats (26%) – and a third of liberal Democrats – say people saying very offensive things is a major problem, but people being too easily offended is not. Just 4% of Republicans hold this combination of views.

Another 29% of Democrats, but just 15% of Republicans, say neither of these is a major problem.

There are also significant demographic differences in attitudes about offensive speech.

Race and ethnicity

While at least half of Americans across racial and ethnic groups say being too easily offended is a major problem in the country, White adults are particularly likely to say this. Nearly two-thirds of White adults (65%) say this is a major problem, as do 59% of Hispanic, 59% of Asian and 50% of Black adults.

No more than about one-in-ten in any of these groups say people getting offended too easily is not a problem in the country today.

Conversely, Black (63%), Asian (58%) and Hispanic (55%) adults are more likely than White adults (42%) to say that people saying very offensive things to others is a major problem.

Men (62%) and women (63%) are about equally likely to say people being too easily offended is a major problem.

But women (54%) are far more likely than men (40%) to say offensive speech is a major problem.

Within political parties, there are some differences by gender, race and ethnicity on these questions.

On whether people being too easily offended is a major problem:

• Hispanic Republicans (71%) are less likely than White Republicans (83%) to say this is a major problem. (The sample size for Black and Asian Republicans is too small to evaluate these groups individually.)
• There are no gaps between men and women in either party.

On whether offensive speech is a major problem:

• Democratic and Republican women are more likely than men in their parties to say offensive speech is a major problem. Among Democrats, 63% of women and 54% of men say this. And in the GOP, 43% of women and 27% of men say the same.
• While roughly two-thirds of Black (67%), Hispanic (65%) and Asian Democrats (64%) say this is a major issue, a narrower majority of White Democrats (54%) share that view.
