The Battleship Island movie review (2017)
Instead, "Battleship Island" climaxes with the above-mentioned prison-yard free-for-fall, scored by "The Ecstasy of Gold," perhaps the second most famous piece of music composed by Ennio Morricone. It's a brazen callback that pushes the boundaries of good taste and intellectual credulity. But it makes perfect emotional sense.

The Battleship Island (2017)
1) Inhumane treatment by historically superior entity, 2) re- visioned telling of the story, and 3) interim comedy. The third element is one this movie executes well. The comedic relationship between the two main characters, along with the horrific conditions they are placed in, make you feel invested in their future.

The Battleship Island
1945 Hashima. We called it hell on earth. It's easy to see why South Korean World War Two movie The Battleship Island ( Gun-ham-do) went down a storm in its home country. Giving a fictional spin to real events, it takes a dark episode from 20th-century Korean history and turns it into a rousingly patriotic adventure.

Battleship Island, The (2017) Review
Great review Zack! I agree with you that 'The Battleship Island' is definitely a remnant of the Park Geun-hye era of Korean cinema. I recall an interview with Seung-wan when he was promoting the release of 'Veteran' in 2015, in which he stated he planned to make a sequel, but first he was going to make a World War II epic, referring to what would become this movie.

The Battleship Island (South Korea, 2017)
Review: As is generally known war takes many forms. Most of them are cruel: extremely cruel. Director Ryoo Seung-wan has found another way to make us aware of this. Despite a few weaknesses which can't be dismissed his "The Battleship Island" has a spot among my Top 3 best Korean (anti-)war movies, even in close proximity to "The Front Line".The reason for that being the multitude of different ...
