Topic Mate Selection
Thesis Statement: People tend to choose their mates based off evolutionary personality theory, social learning, or the culture they are brought up in? 1 st Main Point: That Serves to Prove Your Thesis: 1 st piece of research That Supports this Main Point (citation) Sabo:AWS, A. (2017). Personality. Grand Canyon University - Digital Resources. gcumedia/digital-resources/cengage/2018/ personality_10e
How does this article support this main point (key ideas) Men and woman have different look for different things in their partners. For instance, woman tend to look for financial stability, as well as a partner that is mature and responsible. Men tend to look for a partner that is physically attractive and younger than them. Evolutionary personality theory suggests that men and women look for partners they can eventually reproduce with. Because of this, we look for partners that can be successful in child reproduction and bearing children. Women are more selective because they carry the child, and most of the time woman are only pregnant once a year. Whereas, men can reproduce as many children as they want to or can in a year since they do not carry. Men choose younger mates as opposed to older mates because they have a higher chance to bear a child. For this purpose, woman tend to look at dependability over looks and a younger man can seem immature and not alluring. Men even brag about their income to become a more suitable mate. 2 nd piece of research That Supports this Main Point (citation) Howard, J. A., Blumstein, P., & Schwartz, P. (1987). Social or evolutionary theories? Some observations on preferences in human mate selection. Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 194.
How does this article support this main point (key ideas) Ancestral men and women sought out mates with emotional attributes, such as kindness, caring, and understanding as opposed to simply sexual selection and parental investment. Triver’s investment theory suggests a potential mate is influenced by his or her sexual history. Men and women that were a part of a study were more likely to choose a partner that had been single for a long period of time and had less sexual partners because they were more suitable partners and potential parental material because more partners mean possible risk for reproductive health. Charles Darwin suggested that the sexual form of selection serves to optimize the conception and survival of future offspring. Traits that allow individuals to produce quality offspring should be highly desired by members of the opposite sex.
2 nd Main Point: That Serves to Prove Your Thesis: 1 st piece of research That Supports this Main Point (citation) Mischel, W. (2015). A social learning view of sex differences in behavior. In V. Burr (Ed.), Critical concepts in psychology. Gender and psychology (p. 108–129). Routledge/Taylor & Francis Group.
How does this article support this main point (key ideas)
Social learning theorists suggest that mate preference comes from social interaction and positive reinforcement of gender role consistent behavior. Social role theory states that sex differences are a consequence of the different positions men and women carry in society and the sexual division of labor. Gender differences are generally the same in today’s world that they were in early socialization. Children tend to imitate same gender adults and they receive praise for traditional gender roles. I. a young girl playing with her toy kitchen, making dinner or a young boy grabbing a tool to help his father in the garage. Powerlessness theory suggests that differences in mate preferences are due to a woman’s general lack of social and financial statue and as woman became/become more independent and accessibility to different forms of birth control, this will change. 3 rd Main Point that Serves to Prove your Thesis 1 st piece of research That Supports this Main Point (citation) Khurshid, A. (2020). Love Marriage or Arranged Marriage? Choice, Rights, and Empowerment for Educated Muslim Women from Rural and Low-Income Pakistani Communities. Compare: A Journal of Comparative and International Education, 50 (1), 90–106.
How does this article support this main point (key ideas) Different cultures have different views on mate selection and dating in general, regardless of the past two views. Arranges marriages are very much still enforced in many cultures. Some woman in communities such as Pakistan feel like they are victims of their culture and can be severely punished for going against their family/societal/cultural values when it comes to marriage. They do not get to choose their partners, but their mates are chosen based on income, family status, and sadly, oftentimes young girls are sold to be married as soon as they hit puberty and live a life of slavery to their culture. Arranged marriages are not always a bad thing and many women that are educated prefer to value their traditions and trust their parents to make the best decision for them when it comes to marriage. On the contrary, while many girls are educated and enrolled in school in Pakistan, they still very rarely ever leave their home without

Personality Research Paper Outline
PSY-255 Personality Research Paper Outline
Topic: Trait Theory
Thesis Statement : This paper is going to discuss trait theory as proposed by Gordon Allport, with an explanation of why this theory is relevant to personality psychology as supported by current research discussing cardinal, central and secondary traits, as well as the influence of phenotypes on personality development.
Introduction: Trait theory proposes that one’s personality is relatively stable over time, and one is predisposed to be certain way regardless of any given situation or environment. These traits can vary from person to person, however, it is assumed that individual differ because of their genetic or biological differences (McLeod, 2017). Gordon Allport found an English-Language dictionary containing more than 4,000 words, that would later describe three different levels of personality including cardinal, central and secondary traits (Cherry, 2017). Allport believed that both external and internal phenotypes influenced one’s personality and behaviors.
1st Main Point: That Serves to Prove Your Thesis: Cardinal Traits- These are the traits that someone is known for. They have become core characteristics of what this individual is like when people describe him or her. Researcher often feel that these traits become synonymous with these traits, such as “narcissistic”.

· 1st piece of research That Supports this Main Point (citation)- What makes people lie, and bully? Why are some people influenced by others to be a certain way? Are they really a bully, or just acting like one? Are these features of their personality lasting? Can they change?
