Common app personal essay.

The essay demonstrates your ability to write clearly and concisely on a selected topic and helps you distinguish yourself in your own voice. What do you want the readers of your application to know about you apart from courses, grades, and test scores? Choose the option that best helps you answer that question and write an essay of no more than 650 words, using the prompt to inspire and structure your response. Remember: 650 words is your limit, not your goal. Use the full range if you need it, but don‘t feel obligated to do so.

Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.

The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?

Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome?

Reflect on something that someone has done for you that has made you happy or thankful in a surprising way. How has this gratitude affected or motivated you?

Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.

Anyone applying for admission to a college or university for the first time after graduating from high school, or earning a General Educational Diploma (GED), is a first-year student for admission purposes. Students who completed college courses while still in high school may have credits that will be considered for transfer toward their college degree, but they still apply as first-year students.

• Students with  23 or fewer semester hours  of completed college-level course work at the time of application are considered for admission based on high school GPA, high school courses/units completed, ACT or SAT scores and college or university GPA.  
• Students with  24 or more   semester hours  of completed college-level course work at the time of application are considered for admission based primarily upon performance in college courses.

Our Masters in Business Analytics program offers an in-depth program that gives YOU the technical skills and knowledge to make sound business decisions. Through consulting work, internships, and a practicum, you’ll have several experiential learning opportunities to apply what you’re learning in the classroom to today’s business problems. This program allows working professionals to continue their careers as they enter graduate school with evening and online class offerings. Program benefits include:

The Masters in Business Analytics program consists of 30 credit hours total, broken down into core and electives. Designed to be completed in two years, our classes have an emphasis on project-based work, where you’ll have the flexibility to choose projects related to your career interests.

Take classes in a hybrid format (classroom and online). Your online courses are taught by the same professors and lecturers that teach on campus.  We also offer hybrid courses in the evening for those working full-time.

Online is defined as an asynchronous course, meaning that there is no specific meeting day/time.  Hybrid is defined as a blend of in-person and online learning.  The in-person experience will typically be once a week, from 6:30-9:15 p.m., one evening within Monday-Thursday. There will be at least six in-person meetings during the 8-week session. The in-person experience is complemented with asynchronous content.

Most graduate courses are offered as an 8-week session within the 16-week fall and spring semesters. Graduate courses in the summer semester extend for the entire semester, which is an 8-week session as well.   National research shows increased graduation rates among students taking courses in an 8-week session. The data on 8-week courses shows increased student success and course completion rates. The course material is condensed into eight weeks. So, while the weekly workload is greater, you can complete the course in half the time! It is recommended to take one course per each 8-week session, particularly if you work full-time, which allows you to place your focus on just that course.   Additionally, offering courses in 8-week sessions every semester enables you to balance and manage life responsibilities while still prioritizing your education. For instance, if you have a vacation, family commitment or business trip occurring in the first 8-week session, you can choose to enroll only in a course offered in the second eight-week session.

Masters in Business Analytics

Value 1: leverage data, technology, and mathematical models.

Outcome: Students will apply data, technology, and mathematical models to produce evidence-based information for business and government decision-makers.

• Propose appropriate models or solution methods;
• Design a solution option to meet organizational or program requirements;
• Evaluate the solution option in light of organizational goals and/or structure;
• Communicate the solution option to decision-makers.

Value 2: Analyze Critically

Outcome: Students will master the analytical and programming skills necessary to adapt to ever-changing software, methodologies, technologies, and techniques.

• Use current software to access and manipulate data;
• Gain fundamental knowledge of data structures, functions, and programming logic that facilitates self-learning of other software and programming skills.

These objectives are assessed in relevant courses across the curriculum using quizzes, projects, and case studies.

The cost of tuition is different for in-state and out-of-state students.

Residents of western states may qualify for in-state tuition if they are pursuing the MS Business Analytics degree. The Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP) requires that students maintain current residency of WRGP state until degree completion.

Scholarships

Scholarships are available for students. The Business School offers a recurring scholarship opportunity for applicants based on merit at the time of admission.

As a current student, you can apply for additional scholarships every semester. Some awards are based on program and course enrollment. Certain specializations including risk management and insurance, commodities, and entrepreneurship have additional scholarship opportunities.

Newly Admitted and Continuing Students:

You can apply for additional scholarships every semester of enrollment. Some awards may be specific to individual programs or enrollment in specific courses. Certain certificates, including risk management and insurance, commodities, and entrepreneurship, have additional scholarship opportunities.

Specialized Dual Degree Option

Many students pursue the dual degree option of pairing a Masters in Business Analytics with a Masters in Information Systems (Business Intelligence Specialization). These two degree options offer complementary courses and can be completed together efficiently. Speak with a graduate advisor for more details. 

Additional Dual Degree Options

Dual degree options for Master of Science programs include all of our MBA programs and all Business School Master of Science programs. We design a specific degree plan so you get through both programs as quickly and cost-effectively as possible. The amount of credits in each dual degree depends on the amount of overlap between degree programs. Eligible Master of Science programs include:

If you are applying for both degrees, you will only need to submit one online application and pay one application fee. Be aware that you must meet specific admission standards for each degree. We admit students for a fall and spring start. Admissions are made on a rolling basis, meaning decisions are made as applications are completed.

Please note:  Quantitative skills are important for Business Analytics. Applicants can demonstrate these skills with their GMAT Quantitative score and GMAT Integrated Reasoning score.

Application Process

Applicants are required to submit all application materials. Interviews are not a part of the admission process. To receive priority admission, we must have received your online application and all other required materials, including transcripts and GMAT/GRE scores (if required by the program) by the deadline.

You can check your admission status online through the account you created for the online application. You will receive a final decision by email within two to three weeks from the submission of all materials.

Admission Requirements

• Applicants must have completed an undergraduate program at an accredited United States college or its equivalent in another country.
• No work experience or formal business education is required for admission;  however, you may have to provide a GMAT or GRE score if you do not have enough work experience, see below.

​ The GMAT/GRE is not required for this program

This program does not require GMAT or GRE scores for their degree program as part of the graduate admissions requirements. The requirements are a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better from a US-accredited four-year undergraduate institution or the successful completion of a graduate degree, and three or more years of full-time relevant professional work experience.

However, if you received your bachelor’s degree with a grade point average of less than 3.30 or have less than 3 years of relevant professional work experience, you will be asked to submit a statement that outlines other indicators of exceptional motivation, such as solid upper-division performance, GMAT or GRE scores, and other relevant professional experience. The admissions committee may require a minimum GMAT or GRE score for students that do not automatically qualify by GPA and prior work.

How Decisions Are Made

The admissions committee considers each candidate’s entire record of achievement. This is demonstrated through:

• Academic transcripts
• Essay responses
• Work experience
• Extracurricular and community activities
• Letters of recommendation if applicable 
• GMAT/GRE scores if applicable

No work experience or formal business education is required for admission. However, professional experience strengthens your application. Candidates with less work experience can show potential through academic and experiential success.

International graduate applicants must have their academic credentials evaluated by either Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) or World Education Services (WES). If you have already had an international credential evaluation from another company, please contact CU Denver International Admissions at  [email protected]  to determine whether it meets our requirements.

To meet the  English Language Proficiency (ELP)  criteria, you must showcase your proficiency through different exemptions or an English Language Proficiency test (TOEFL, IELTS, PTE or Duolingo). 

To determine  English Language Proficiency (ELP) , you must complete one of the following  criteria . Please note for Business School graduate programs the minimum  TOEFL  score  requirements of 83 (IBT) or 560 (PBT).

Pay the Application Fee

Before beginning your application, you should first review DU’s admission standards for first-year applicants . 

We uphold high academic achievement standards to ensure you can meet DU’s academic expectations and excel in our rigorous degree programs. However, at DU, we also take a holistic approach to admission. While academic performance is the primary focus of our applicant review, we assess you as a whole person, not merely for your grades and test scores. We want to see how you engage with your peers and community through service projects, extracurriculars, student government, and other activities. 

We additionally consider your involvement with the University of Denver, such as meeting with admission counselors or attending in-person or virtual visits. This demonstrates your willingness to invest in the DU community and your academic success. 

As a test-optional school, we do not require you to SAT or ACT scores. If you opt to submit your score, they will be considered alongside your other materials during the review process.

For first-year applicants, DU offers the following application deadlines:

• Nov. 1 for Early Decision I and Early Action
• Jan. 15 for Early Decision II and Regular Decision

What Is Early Decision?

Early Decision is a binding agreement between you and the University of Denver that you will attend DU if accepted. You may only apply for Early Decision to one school. If accepted to DU via Early Decision, you must withdraw your applications from other institutions.

However, Early Action and Regular Decision are nonbinding applications, and you can apply to as many schools as you like for these deadlines.

Why Apply for Early Decision?

Applying for Early Decision has numerous benefits, including:

• Students admitted during Early Decision rounds of admission receive an additional $5,000 merit aid award.
• Top academic performers will have their full demonstrated financial needs met.
• Early-decision applicants enjoy stronger consideration for admission and benefit from earlier admission and financial aid notifications.

Please Note: Athletes receiving athletic aid and music majors are welcome to apply for Early Decision but are not eligible for the financial incentives. Additionally, international students are eligible for additional merit aid but not for need-based aid.

Fill Out Your Application

To simplify the process, DU accepts the Common Application, a standardized online application form used by hundreds of colleges and universities. 

 The application includes an essay requirement, so please allow yourself enough time and preparation to write your essay. Students are free to choose from any of the current year's Common Application prompts for their one required essay.

DU requires a $65 nonrefundable application fee. To submit your payment, please log into your Common Application account and pay at the time of application submission to the University of Denver.

If you're facing financial hardship, you can indicate on the application that you qualify for a fee waiver in the ‘Profile’ area of the Common Application.

Test Scores (Optional)

As a part of the application process, you must send your official high school transcripts or verification of a GED.

• Your high school counselor can send your transcript electronically through Parchment , PowerSchool Naviance , or the Common Application .

Send Your Letters of Recommendations

Letters of recommendation play an important role in the admissions process because they allow those who know you best to speak about your accomplishments, strengths, and overall potential.

DU requires a letter of recommendation from your school counselor. They need to submit either the Common Application Secondary School Report, the Common Application Counselor Recommendation form, or a personal letter. You're welcome to submit additional letters from teachers, coaches, or mentors; however, these letters are optional.

DU believes in excellence. We weigh your academic performance as the most important factor in our admission process. However, because DU is a test-optional university, submitting test scores is your choice.

If you choose to submit your SAT and/or ACT scores, we review them along with your other application materials for admission and merit scholarships.

Please Note: To be considered, test scores must be received directly from the testing agency. We cannot consider self-reported test scores entered on the Common Application. It can take a couple of weeks for the testing agency to process your order. Please request your scores with ample time to ensure delivery by the materials deadline.

If you choose to submit your test scores, you must do so via College Board or ACT using the following codes:

• SAT Code: 4842
• ACT Code: 0534

We do not consider subject tests or writing sections.

Super Score: If you’ve taken either test more than once, we combine the best sub-scores to create your best possible composite result. If the testing agency generates a composite of your best sub-scores, we also accept that super score from the agency.

If you receive an application fee waiver, you can upload ACT and/or SAT scores to your application status page. To do so, please:

• Log into your account to choose the "Student Submitted Test Score" material upload type and then upload a PDF of your student score report.
• You may also email us at [email protected] .

Once we verify the score report, we complete the test score requirement for your application. This process may take 24-48 hours to complete.

Pay your deposit, apply for need-based aid.

After submitting your application, we recommend starting the financial aid application process. To do so, please follow the steps outlined below:

• Complete the CSS Profile . Our school code is 4842.
• Request a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID . Both the student and at least one parent should have an FSA ID.
• Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Our school code is 001371.

Extra Application Steps

If you're applying to a BFA program in DU’s School of Art & Art History , you must include a portfolio with your other supplemental materials. For more information about your program-specific admission requirements, contact the art department .

Most students interested in attending the Daniels College of Business are directly admitted to the program of their choice. In some cases, students start at DU as pre-business students and apply to the Daniels College after completing their first year on campus.

Submit your Early Decision Agreement Form .

Please submit a copy of your high school transcript that shows all completed coursework. You must submit one recommendation letter, preferably from a former teacher or counselor.

If you're a homeschooled student, you can use the application process listed above, and you may apply to DU with or without SAT and/or ACT standardized test scores. However, you must submit a letter of recommendation from a non-family member.

Students applying to major in music must submit a supplemental application from the Lamont School of Music , which they receive after submitting their Common Application. They also must audition or submit a portfolio based on their area of study . For audition dates and details or more information, please contact the Lamont School of Music .

If you attend a non-graded high school that does not provide a letter or numerical grade, you can be considered for admission without submitting an official SAT or ACT. However, to be considered for merit scholarships, you need to submit an official SAT or ACT score.

If you've been out of high school for three or more years and don't have any previous college credit, you can apply through the Common Application . Additionally, you have the option of submitting a letter of recommendation from an employer rather than a school counselor.

We're thrilled that you're interested in applying to the University of Colorado Denver College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Anyone applying for admission to a college or university for the first time after graduating from high school (or earning a GED) is a freshman for admission purposes. Students who completed college courses while still in high school may have credits considered in transfer, but they still apply as freshmen students.

Freshman Admission

Freshman admission consideration for both in-state and out-of-state students is based primarily upon:

• Quality and number of high school courses (units) attempted (a rigorous academic program of study is preferred)
• The  admission index ,  which is a numeric score calculated by the Colorado Department of Higher Education based on GPA or rank in class and ACT or SAT test scores.
• Optional personal essay and letters of recommendation .  Though not required, a personal statement or essay and/or letters of recommendation may be considered in the admissions review process

General Admission

You are a strong candidate for general admission if:

• Your  index is 93 or higher
• You have completed all HEAR requirements AND have no more than two MAPS unit deficiencies

hi everyone,

i just got rejected to the accelerated spring 2011 program at cu denver and i am scrambling trying to improve my application. here is a little background info about myself:

overall gpa: 3.4

pre-reqs gpa: 3.8

bachelor: communication

healthcare experience: 1 volunteer experience in nursing oncology unit

professional experience: senior marketing coordinator with 5 years of related experience (still do this as my day job)

essay : (would love to email my complete essay to someone who got into the program!!)

diversity— talked about how my experience as a minority (i am hispanic from colombia) has shaped my tolerance and understanding of other cultures and ethnicities. mentioned my drive to become a hispanic nurse in order to better serve the hispanic community in denver. gave specific examples of how i was able to assist nurses in the oncology unit by being a translator.

role as a nurse & preparation to be nurse— talked about how i was inspired to be a nurse when taking care of my mother while she battled cancer. mentioned how my experience as a busy marketing coordinator who deals with many different people and deadlines has helped me become a great multi-tasker and team player. said the role of the nurse is to care for and coordinate the care of patients, teach and advise; their responsibilities are shifting and ever-growing. with the rapid evolution of the healthcare sector, today’s nurses continue to take on more responsibilities.---is this ok?

critical skills— talked about how i use critical thinking skills in my job on a daily basis. my role as a proposal coordinator is to analyze proposals, gather information from multiple sources, coordinate the activities of several individuals—both in my firm and at outside companies—and then apply my knowledge, experience and technical skills to develop a concise written and visual document that presents my firm in a compelling and unique manner--- not sure if this is relevant??

can someone give me some pointers as to how i can improve my application? are my grades just too low?

should i get a cna certificate and gain some real healthcare experience?

Hey, I would love to help you out. I just got accepted to CU Denver summer 2010 traditional program. I have no previous health care experience besides 6 months volunteering at National Jewish Health in pediatrics. I think it's my essay that really got me in. I've heard of 4.0 students not getting in. I think your grades are fine. Your credentials sound great, you may just need to polish your essay up a bit. Send it to me.

Get a CNA certificate and some part time CNA work experience. Perhaps repeat some classes to improve overall GPA although your prereq GPA is good enough in my book. Can't really see repeating English to raise a C to an A though. You would have to raise a lot of grades to an A to bring 3.4 up to a more competitive number. Your most cost effective bet is to go with the CNA and start looking at other schools as options.

Hey enfermera,

I went to the an admissions info session at CU Denver in February, and they said prior healthcare experience was not even considered in the application process. If you wanted to do the CNA thing, I think it'd still be good for you. However, I don't think it would make you more competitive in the admissions process.

Seems like your GPA seems pretty good, just make your essay awesome!

Thanks everyone for your posts. Here is my update: I re-sent my application and I am still waiting to get their decision letter. I did interview with Regis and I will know if I got into that program in the next week. Hopefully I'll get into Regis as they are now my top choice.

I'm applying for 2012. I was wondering if you ended up getting accepted to CU Denver. I am concerned about my essay which I'm submitting soon.

CU Rising Scholars Program

Saturday, July 27 - Friday, August 2, 2024 The CU Rising Scholars Program is a residential, week-long summer program. It gives high school students an opportunity to explore university life and gain academic, social and life skills that will help them succeed in a college setting. Program participants spend the week experiencing mock classes, working with current Carroll students and taking college preparatory workshops all while staying overnight in our residence halls and enjoying fun activities each evening.

Program Requirements

In order to qualify for the program, students must:

• Be in grades 9-12 in the 2024-2025 school year
• Be a student in the state of Wisconsin
• Qualify for free or reduced lunch
• Have interest in attending a four-year institution

The deadline for  CU Rising Scholars  applications is Friday, June 28th, 2024, but students are encouraged to submit applications as soon as possible. The University of Colorado recently expanded the Tuition Assistance Benefit (TAB) starting with the upcoming academic year. Changes enriched the benefit’s value, eliminated most employee wait times to register and made the benefit more flexible for families with multiple college students.

Applications are now open for the Fall 2024 semester for all CU campuses.

Benefits-eligible faculty and staff can claim up to 12 credits per academic year (fall through summer) on any CU campus. Dependent assistance options vary based on the employee’s home campus and the campus which the dependent attends.

What’s new?

• Benefits-eligible employees can now receive up to 12 credit hours per academic year, which runs from fall to summer.
• Benefits-eligible CU Anschutz, CU Denver or CU Colorado Springs employees can now receive up to 12 credit hours for dependents at their home campus per academic year.
• Benefits-eligible employees can receive up to $270 per credit hour for up to 12 undergraduate credits ($3,240 total) for dependents attending a CU campus other than the employee’s home campus.
• Benefits-eligible Boulder employees can now receive a 40% discount off tuition for dependents attending CU Boulder for each semester.
• Employees and their dependents can now use their tuition benefit concurrently in the same academic year, and even in the same semester.
• Degree seeking employees may register and wait list during normal designated registration periods.
• Non-degree seeking students may have different registration windows and should consult their campus for more information.

We enroll an incoming class of highly qualified, intellectually curious and actively involved students who have demonstrated high levels of maturity and personal integrity as well as a commitment to serving their communities.

To achieve this, we practice a holistic admission review process, which takes into account a variety of primary academic factors and secondary factors as they relate to your ability to be successful in our competitive academic environment. While admission is competitive, you will be considered on an individual basis relative to a prediction of your academic success in the college to which you apply.

Academic Rigor

The primary factor in admission decisions is your academic achievement. CU Boulder focuses on your classroom performance in core academic courses, the rigor of your course selection and your GPA. SAT and ACT will not be required when applying to CU Boulder. CU Boulder has, and will continue to, review via a holistic assessment of each application with all of the information that is available.

International Students

International students with four or less semesters of U.S. schooling should refer to their country's specific requirements.

Review Requirements by Country

The grades you have earned while in high school or secondary school play the most important role in determining your competitiveness for admission to the University of Colorado Boulder.

Since there are many different grading scales and weighting methods, we use the total weighted GPA provided by your graduating high school, using a standard 4.00 scale. GPAs that are not on a 4.00 scale are converted accordingly.

If your high school does not provide a weighted GPA but provides a total unweighted GPA, we will use your total unweighted GPA on a standard 4.00 scale. If your high school does not provide a GPA or the GPA provided does not include all completed high school courses, we will recalculate the GPA according to the grading scale in use at your high school at the time the course was completed. When recalculating a GPA, we will not add weight for honors, AP and/or IB curricula because there is not a standard format for the designation or grading scale for these courses. However, we do consider the number of honors, AP and/or IB courses a student takes when determining the rigor of their overall curriculum.

Class Selection

Academic rigor in your course selection is also a primary factor that we consider. To be competitive, challenge yourself by pursuing the most rigorous courses available that are appropriate to your level of ability.

The number of courses taken beyond the minimum recommendation of 17—as well as those designated as advanced, honors, gifted, concurrent enrollment, dual-enrollment, AP or IB —will be considered in the admission process.

First-year students applying to undergraduate programs are strongly encouraged to meet the following Higher Education Admission Recommendations (HEAR) . Students may be admitted to CU Boulder even though they have not completed all of the HEAR courses. There are no consequences if HEAR is not met. However, not completing HEAR might result in taking additional courses to meet the CU Boulder graduation requirements of individual majors. International students with four or less semesters of U.S. schooling should refer to their country's specific requirements .

Please note: a challenging schedule will not outweigh a non-competitive GPA, as your grades ultimately remain the single most important factor in your admission decision. Additionally, any grades of D or F on your transcript—especially in your junior or senior year—would be cause for concern and should be addressed in your application.

Standardized Tests

ACT or SAT scores are not required for first-year students, but you may provide self-reported scores if you would like us to take your scores into consideration when reviewing your application. You will indicate on the Common App whether you plan to submit standardized test scores. If you choose to submit scores, please ensure that we have received them by the relevant application deadline so that your application will not be considered late.

English Proficiency Requirements for International Students

In addition to our general admission requirements, all international applicants are also required to meet a minimum standard of English proficiency. International students who do not meet this requirement may still be eligible for conditional admission.

Beyond Academics

While academics and test scores play a large role in your admission decision, we want students who are actively involved in their schools and communities. We place importance on secondary factors beyond academic achievement to assess the overall qualities of an applicant. 

What makes you stand out? Be thoughtful and use your required essays and your letter of recommendation to highlight your school and community activities, leadership positions and awards, participation in athletics or music, work experience, summer activities and special circumstances. Please note: we do not accept or use portfolio or audio/video submissions in our admission process.

Personal Essays

Your personal essays give you the opportunity to tell us more about yourself. They provide insight into your challenges and triumphs in a way that transcripts and test scores simply cannot.

When reading your essays, we are looking for sincerity and authenticity. It’s easy to tell when a student’s essay is something they care deeply about, compared to a student who writes what they think we want to hear. A funny or interesting story doesn’t hurt, either!

There is one essay and one short answer required for first year applicants. As you write your essay and short answer, consider reflecting on challenges that you've overcome, your family or cultural heritage, your academic or co-curricular achievements or specific moments that have defined your character. There are no 'correct' answers to these questions; your responses should reflect the unique aspects and experiences of your life.

What we are looking for:

• Be yourself. Open up to us and write about something that is meaningful to you.
• Be specific. Give examples and tell stories to make your points.
• Be honest. We are interested in your journey—even if it hasn’t always been perfect.
• Be clear. Effective writing and communication skills are expected.

Letter of Recommendation

Just like your essays give you the chance to tell us more about you, a letter of recommendation gives someone else the opportunity to speak to your academic strengths and co-curricular involvement.

This is the one chance in your application where we get to learn about you from someone other than you, so choose someone who knows you well. Many students ask a teacher or school counselor to write their letter of recommendation.

Credentials based on the middle 50% of 2024 admitted first-year students. High School GPAs are weighted and may represent self-reported GPAs. SAT/ACT scores reflect the middle 50% score range for students who requested test scores be considered in their application review. For the 2024 first-year application, SAT/ACT scores are not required and we take a holistic approach when reviewing your application.

Credit for Course work or Exams

Students applying to CU Boulder have the opportunity to earn college credit before enrollment. CU Boulder accepts credit from AP/IB exams, A-Level exams, college course work taken concurrently while in high school and limited CLEP credit. Earning college credit while in high school is a great way to help offset some of your estimated cost of attendance. Students are highly encouraged to explore credit for course work options while in high school. For more information on how credit is transferred to CU Boulder and what credit can be accepted please see the links below.

Official Advanced Placement (AP) scores must be sent to the admissions office directly from the College Board. CU Boulder's CEEB/ETS code is 004841.

For A-level examinations from an international examining board to be considered for transfer credit, the student must submit an official copy of the examination result, either by submitting the original certificate upon arrival on campus (University of Colorado Boulder will make and keep a copy as official, returning the original to the student), or through verification of results between the Office of Admissions and the examinations board. Methods of approved verification are below.

• CIE:   The University of Colorado Boulder can use CIE Direct after requesting the following information from the student: Cambridge Center and candidate numbers, student’s date of birth and the relevant examination series (month and year, e.g. June 2014). 
• OCR : Student must request that OCR send a fax confirming student’s results to the University of Colorado Boulder. Fax number: +1-303-735-2501, ATTN: International Admissions.
• Pearson/Edexcel : Student must apply for a copy of the certificate  to be sent directly to the University of Colorado Boulder.
• WJEC/CBAC : Student must submit original Certificate or Certifying Statement of Results only (confirmation of grades via email/telephone/fax not available). 

If you took college-level courses while enrolled in high school, you may be able to transfer the credit to CU Boulder. Only courses taken at a college or university of recognized standing with grades of C- or better are accepted for transfer. All college-level work will be evaluated in accordance with CU Boulder transfer credit guidelines. You must have an official college transcript sent directly to the Office of Admissions in order for transfer credit to be evaluated.

Review the Transfer Credit Policy

The International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma programs provide pre-university study. IB examinations, whether leading to a full IB diploma or to an IB certificate, often qualify students for advanced standing at CU Boulder. In general, credit is granted for approved IB examinations at the higher level with a score of 4 or better. Students admitted to the University of Colorado Boulder who have graduated from high school with an International Baccalaureate Diploma shall be granted 24 semester hours of college credit. This credit will be applied toward degree requirements only if approved by the college or school. Depending on the student’s degree program, some of the 24 credits may not be applicable towards degree requirements. No CU Boulder tuition will be charged for these credits and the 24 credits will only be granted if the student receives a score of 4 or better on an examination administered as part of the IB Diploma program. If the student scores less than 4 on each IB subject test, the credit hours granted will be reduced accordingly. Official scores must be sent to the Admissions Office directly from the IB organization.
