When examining the case of McDonald’s “senior” Restaurant there are several aspects to take into consideration, the first is the fact that the sheer amount of regular customers that come to this location can be considered advantageous for the company from a revenue standpoint. First off, it is important to note that while it is true that the amount seniors that occupy the restaurant is considerable, the fact remains that as a fast-food restaurant, most people are not there to stay for prolonged periods with the seniors being an exception to this “rule”. As such, the steady stream of customers that come into the fast-food chain can utilize the limited seating available, finish their meal quickly and leave.

Also, while it is true that most of the seniors do is merely buy a cup of coffee and stay there for a long period, the fact remains that this not apply to all instances wherein there is the very real possibility that some of the seniors would continue to buy food items as they get hungry since they are staying there for 2 to 4 hours. Thus, from a break-even analysis perspective of the number of seniors versus the limitation in seating for new customers, there is no problem whatsoever with the seniors being a very potent means of earning that branch more money.

As for the bingo idea, an underutilized party room for the seniors to play bingo would be a great idea since it is more or less not even used a majority of time yet the company still pays for it due to the rental payments it is subject to for the location it is using. By charging seniors $5 to join the bingo tournament and utilizing prizes in the form of McDonald’s coupons, this encourages people to continue to patronize the products of the restaurant. Not only that, the prizes awarded can be set at a lower level than the amount taken in for the bingo tournament which would result in more money generated than lost.

Financial Ratio Analysis

Overall, when looking at the sales of the branch, it can be stated that it is doing quite well for itself due to the sheer amount of regular seniors that patronize it. The coffee sales alone would be considerable which, when combined with other items that the seniors buy from time to time, make the current clients a very effective source of daily revenue.

When it comes to the growth of the location, it is important to note that there is nothing necessarily wrong with being known as the “senior” McDonald’s. The reason behind this is connected to the fact that this branch of the fast-food chain would be able to target a consumer demographic that in the past it had a hard time being able to successfully capture (Berfield 49). By encouraging more old people to visit the branch, this would result in higher sales revenue in the long run due to the steady stream of regular customers as compared to the irregular nature of the clientele that would visit an average McDonald’s branch wherein it is unknown how many people within a given day would come.

Forecasting

In terms of forecasting, the current setup is good for the restaurant since it enables an accurate estimation of the number of customers on any given day. Looking at the number of senior customers that come to the same branch which ranges from 100 to 150, it can be stated that a conservative estimate of the potential increase would be around 5% annually. The reason behind such an estimation is connected to the work of Boje, Driver, and Yue which explained that the inherent issue with senior clientele is that they do not have the same rapid exponential growth as compared to younger customers under their advanced ages (Boje, Driver, and Yue 197).

In the business world, tough decisions are always present and managers are typically the ones that have to make them. When making decisions, managers have to keep their consumers in mind. Not only should they remember their consumers, but they should also consider both the micro and macro components of their decisions because something that may be good for the business and/or the market may have a negative effect on their consumers, and vice versa. In our first case, McDonalds “Seniors” Restaurant, we are able to evaluate and access several aspects of decision making in terms of a manager. In the McDonald’s “Seniors” Restaurant case, we are introduced to the manager Lisa Aham who is facing a tough decision at her highly senior populated location. Since her McDonald’s restaurant is located in a city where seniors are prevalent, she has encountered a unique dilemma. Her location is filled with seniors in the mornings and their visits last for hours on end, sometimes as long as four hours.         The perception of younger customers of McDonald’s image and the current strategy regarding senior citizen customers .

  • Definition of the Problem

         Suzanne Drolet is manager of a McDonald’s restaurant in a city with many “seniors.” She worries that with her growing senior citizen customers, the image of her restaurant would change and it will be known for being a non-fast-food restaurant because of the ambiance. If the seniors market will also continue to grow, there would be a crowding problem. She is also taking into consideration of the possibility catering more services to them because the seniors do use their facilities for a much longer time than the average customers.

  • Factors Affecting the problem at least 5 factors with brief explanation
  • Place or location- Place or location is one of the factors why there are a lot of seniors because they are situated in a place where there are more seniors than the younger generation.
  • Image of McDonald’s- The image of the restaurant is a factor because it is know for being a fast-food-chain but in their case they are beginning to be perceived as “old people’s restaurant.”
  • Perception of the younger generation- This is a factor because when the younger see the restaurant as non-fast-food restaurant they might get discourage to dine at that place.
  • Attachment to customers-This is a factor because of the relationships between the customer and the employees, this is a hindrance because they mixed their social life with business so in times of important decision making they will always have to consider their customers because of the attachment. Well, establishing relationships with the customers is also an advantage because they can do product positioning with the customers and establish also loyal customers.
  • Time- This is a factor because even if the amount her senior citizens spend  is similar to the average customer’s purchase-but the seniors do use the facilities for a much longer time.

Alternative 1- Offer bingo games as what Suzanne Drolet had mentioned, she is considering offering bingo games during the slow morning hours-9 AM to 11 AM because bingo is also popular with some seniors, and this could be a new revenue source beyond the extra food and drink purchases that probably would result.

Alternative 2- Encourage more senior citizens through senior citizen discounts. Since senior citizens as we all know have pensions or retirement fees. Then we can conclude that they have more money that will result to their capacity to purchase more products. But the con of this alternative is that the place will be overcrowded with seniors thus leaving no choice for average customers to find another place to dine in.

Alternative 3- Offer new products that will surely draw average customers to the restaurant. If Suzanne wants more average customers then she should create new offers or products that would strike or hit the curiosity of the average customers leading them to dine in the restaurant and try the new product. But the con is that they will have to take a risk because it is not a probability that all the average customers will try the new offers.

  • Recommendation and conclusion

In my own opinion if the main goal is to satisfy the needs of the senior citizens then they will have a trade off between average and senior citizen customers and of course their opportunity cost when they choose seniors over average customers is that their restaurant will be perceived as an old people’s place rather than a fast-food-chain. Suzanne’s McDonald’s might become more like a European –style restaurant where the customers are never rushed and feel very comfortable about lingering over coffee for an hour or two.

Even if they choose seniors over average customers they will not really lost anything because seniors spend same amount as the average customers do when they dine in McDonald’s. Then may even achieve product positioning with the seniors specifically heart positioning. They will establish loyalty among their senior citizen customers.

I choose alternative 2 which is to encourage more senior citizens through senior citizen discounts because they had already established a bond or relationship with the seniors leading them to increase their seniors market rate due to their hospitality and warmth with their customers.

The report within the conclusion states the term 'opportunity cost', however this ins't explained within the report. An opportunity coast, is the cost of forgoing a certain opportunity. For example the opportunity cost of a promotion might be the sales from paper leaflets handed out, which is sales lost. However the business may have decided that on-line advertising was the best method and would gain these sales instead. Thus, it's the cost of not undertaking a certain activity and selecting another which may be more effective. It's important that all technical terms are explained within the report, to ensure that the exmainer understands the report. Especially with technical terms which are difficult to understand, such as above.

Level of analysis

The three different alternatives are quite vague and there do not list the benefits/drawbacks of each one. This is needed to ensure that the report is balanced and fair. For example the report could include 'By offering new products, which should attract new customers, this could cause some consumers to become disloyal if there do not like the new product. This new product will need to be carefully choose to ensure that this appeals to the younger market and also that there are going to enjoy the new product'.

In summary, the report is OK. The report states a potential issue, and the student suggests three potential solutions. However these three solutions aren't explained or justified. For high marks, the student should ensure that the three suggestions have the benefits/drawbacks to ensure it's a balanced report. The student has stated an issue within a fast-food chain, which senior members of the public take a longer time sitting at the table than the younger adults. This causes crowding, and could cause the business to loose sales. This is a valid issue, and the student understands the issue within the store.

This is the only McDonald's I visit. Everyone is right on the ball. They are there to work not just for a job. The bathrooms are the cleanest I have ever seen. Pride shows. Very good

The food was perfect. The manager that took my order and delivered my food had outstanding customer service and a pleasant personality. The downfall was the location was slow. I don't think it's because the people that work there are bad or incapable, but I think the fun has been removed from this location. I stood and watched the crew and they were robotic in nature. I have seen this in other businesses and it is typically caused by bad leadership. If the senior people at this McDonald's beat everyone down, nobody is going to enjoy their work and that gets passed along to customers. The food was perfect, so maybe someone will read this and stress the importance of enjoying your work for best results. Leadership needs to support this crew and put in positive incentives to bring the life back to this McDonald's location. Maybe buy a round of the book The one Minute Manager for every shift and store manager would be a good idea. All employees need to feel appreciated and when they are not you have customers that wait 20 minutes for their FAST food at this McDonald's location.

How do i know if mcdelivery is available to my address.

Depending on where you are, McDelivery is available on DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub, or Postmates apps. Uber Eats is also available to order from the McDonald's app. To order McDelivery through the  McDonald's app , log in, if you are not already. Select 'Order' from the bottom menu bar and switch from 'Pickup' to 'McDelivery'. Enter your desired delivery address and you will be notified if  McDelivery  is available to you through our app.

How do I know what items are available for McDelivery?

Menu items will vary by location. For food item availability, please select McDelivery in the  McDonald's app  and browse items available for delivery on Uber Eats in the app by selecting 'Order' on the bottom menu bar. You can also open your DoorDash, Grubhub, or Postmates apps to learn if there is a McDonald's location near you to browse menu items to order.

Mobile Order & Pay

How do i know which restaurants are participating in mobile order & pay.

Make sure you turn on location services so that we can include all of the available features in the McDonald's app . Mobile Order & Pay will be available in the McDonald's app as a feature when you're within 5 miles of a McDonald's restaurant that offers  Mobile Order & Pay .

Within the location map, after selecting a restaurant icon, selecting the detail box will also indicate if Mobile Order & Pay is available at a particular location. If the restaurant is participating, "Order Here" will be available at the bottom of the detail page, allowing you to select it and begin the order. If not, "Order Here" will be muted, indicating that Mobile Order & Pay is not enabled at that location.

What forms of payment are accepted?

You can register Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover cards in the app. Payment cards registered must be issued by a U.S. bank. If you have an iOS device, and your card is registered to your Apple Wallet, Apple Pay will automatically function as a payment option within the McDonald’s app. If you have registered a card to the Google Pay™ app on your Android, you can select Google Pay™ as a payment method in the McDonald's app . Payments with PayPal and Venmo are now also available with Mobile Order & Pay.
