Course of the Week; Strategic Management

We all want to be bosses, of our siblings, of ourselves and mostly of organisations.

Looking for a course to give you the skill set needed?  Strategic Management  can be defined as the art and science of formulating, implementing and evaluating cross-functional decisions that enable an organization to achieve its objectives.

Strategic Management…

This is a course that will equip you with necessary skill and ability to analyse, formulate and evaluate organisational goals. Thus, enabling you to develop goals that are abreast with the dynamics of the business world; consequently, giving you the means to gain competitive edge and improve market share.

Strategic management is under the School of Entrepreneurship, Procurement and Management , within the College of Human Resource and Development ( COHRED ), whose principle goal is to be a world- class departments that provide management development within Kenya and the region; designed to produce competent entrepreneurs and executives in diverse areas for different sectors of the economy.

Minimum entry requirements B.Sc. Strategic Management:

KCSE C+(plus) mean grade (or equivalent) with a minimum of C (plain) both English and Mathematics or a KACE with at least 2(two) principle passes and one subsidiary pass and a minimum of credit in mathematics in KAC Or a Diploma in relevant discipline from an institution recognised by the University senate or any other qualification accepted by the University Senate as equivalent to any of the above.

4(four) Academic years (which are fast tracked to three calendar years through trimester process).

Tuition Fees per academic year:

Ksh. 133 707=707 (Kenya Shillings one hundred and thirty- three thousand seven hundred and seven only)

Minimum entry requirements M.Sc. Strategic Management:

Bachelor’s degree with at least 2 nd Class Honours (Upper Division) from JKUAT or any other institution recognised by the University Senate. Or holders of a Bachelor’s degree with at least 2 nd Class Honours (Lower Division) with at least three (2) years working experience

Course duration:

2(two) academic years.

Tuition fees per academic year:

Ksh. 126 000= (Kenya shillings one hundred and twenty- six thousand only)

Minimum entry requirements PhD Strategic Management:

Master’s degree from JKUAt or any institution recognised by the University Senate in relevant field.

Course duration :

3(three) academic years.

280 000= (Kenya shillings two hundred and eight thousand only)

Departmental Objectives

Department of Business Administration is one of the leading departments at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology that the University depends on to achieve some of its financial and strategic goals. To contribute to the overall development DBA has to align itself to Vision 2030 In response to environment analysis, the department plans to undertake the following specific objectives during the next twelve months in line with the University’s strategic plan.

  • To increase the number of student admission into Certificate programs by 5% by August 31 2024.
  • To increase the students completion rate by 5% per ever academic year.
  • To ensure 100% observation of ISO 9001: 2015 & 150 14001 2015 procedures at all times in all the departmental activities.
  • To reduce failures rate amongst the students to less than 5% per every semester through application of technologically driven teaching techniques.
  • To review the existing programmes at the end of the academic cycle.

Dr. Doris Mbugua

Senior lecturer.

Dr. Doris V. Mbugua is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Business Administration, specializing in Marketing. With a PhD in Business Administration (Marketing) and an MBA from the University of Nairobi, she brings extensive academic credentials to her role. Dr. Mbugua also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing from the Kenya Institute of Marketing and is currently pursuing a Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing. She has supervised numerous students at both PhD and Masters levels and serves as a mentor to several undergraduate students, demonstrating her commitment to academic excellence and student development.
