To help you compare all of the gold plans, we are providing the Summary of Benefits and Coverage (SBC) documents below. These SBCs describe key features such as the covered benefits, cost-sharing provisions, and coverage limitations and exceptions. All gold plans offer the same set of essential health benefits, quality and amount of care. The differences are how much your premium costs each month, what portion of the bill you pay for things like hospital visits or prescription medications, and how much your total out-of-pocket costs are. Gold Plans have a higher monthly premium and often lower out-of-pocket costs than silver plans. In most cases, gold plans cover 80% of costs, while you cover 20%. Information in these SBCs represents an overview of coverage. It is not a complete list of what is covered or excluded. Information is subject to change. The full terms of coverage are located in the insurance policy. | --> |

2021 - Gold Plus Plan - have you ever used it?
- Add to quote
"I wonder if the Gold Plus Plan is worth considering. I like almost everything about the Forester, but I feel that the Gold Plus Plan is way more expensive than a similar coverage for the Honda CR-V
- flat/horizontally opposed engine vs inline engine
- standard symmetrical AWD
- advanced safety features
It all depends upon what you pay for the Gold Plus plan. The price is negotiable and some dealers charge almost double what another dealer charges. You may find the following thread helpful on pricing: Extended warranty price paid (merged thread) If you do decide to buy a Subaru extended warranty, remember that you have until the expiration of your basic 3 year/36k mile basic warranty to do so. Whatever you do, do not buy a dealer-backed or third party warranty as most are full of loopholes and aren't worth the paper they are printed on.
No, i sell and rebuy before the warranty is up.
"Worth considering" really depends on the individual and their own situation. Personally, I never bought an extended warranty on a new car and never would have been able to take advantage of one (any problems were within the warranty or outside of what an extended would cover). Heck even if my wife's 2020 has a relatively major issue, I'd still come out ahead considering what I have saved over the decades by not buying them. However, if my situation were different (say, financially as one example), an extended warranty may still be a worth while option given that I do tend to keep cars for 10+ years and any large repairs will be out of pocket beyond the factory warranty. ....so even if I don't use it, that added insurance is there so I don't take a huge hit which may lead to debt. The reality is though, we do set a tidy some of money aside for emergencies for the home, cars, etc. so I'd rather take the savings. Yeah, it's a gamble that could or couldn't be worth it in the long run but no one has a crystal ball. ....so again, that's going to be a personal choice based on your own needs and situation. It paid off for @FozzieBalou and I'm sure many others. I'm just trying to provide another perspective from my own experience. Either way, I wish you luck and IMO, there really is no right or wrong decision on this. ......in regard to the Subaru Gold warranty anyway.
Agreed, @Kean - if you're financially sound enough to build up or have that slush fund to cover those types of repairs, there is little sense in buying the extended plans. But there is still a financial aspect that why not have them pay for it? For me, the financial gains over the extended plans have been worth it. The purchase price of the plan (I think it was 1500 or 1800 for me) was a bargain, as it was rolled into the entire financial package and - as mentioned - paid for itself a few times over... Examples include pulling the engine to reseal the cam carrier seals (about a $4000 repair from what I've heard) and getting AC compressor "updated" due to the TSB about newer units, and same for a few other parts - where I had the extended coverage that paid for the repair minus my deductible - in 2013 (for a 2014 model) there was no "no-deductible" plan....
Back when the world was young and innocent and you could buy the SOA warranty at any dealer, I got a 10year/100k/0 deductible plan via the internet for my '19 Touring for about $ 1700 from "Luke" at his CT dealership. Based on the cost and the 10-year time period it works out to about 5 cents per day to have the plan. Considering the load of electronic stuff that is in the car it seemed like cheap insurance. So far though, no claims. I did have an initial problem with the goofy rear door hatch issue and an additional passenger door sensor, but both were covered under the original 3/36 warranty. In essence, the car has had no repairs beyond maintenance. I would like to shoot the Tom Tom GPS, but that would just leave a hole in the dash.
So, does the gold plan start after the factory warranty expires? Or does it begin immediately?
The Gold Plan is nearly identical to the factory warranty and always starts the same day, which is when the car was originally first purchased. It is of little benefit for the first 3 years/36K. Since you already have a bumper to bumper from the factory, and you can buy the warranty at any time as long as the factory warranty is in effect, it may make better sense to wait. If you sell the car, you will get a rebate on the unused portion of the warranty (years or mileage, whichever is less) but since the rebate is based on your purchase date, if something happens less than 3 years out, that period will be deducted (e.g. a 6 year Gold warranty terminated at 3 years means you only get back half the cost, and no benefit). Even if you plan on keeping the car forever, if the car gets totaled in an accident, you won't have that option. The potential downside to a later warranty purchase is that it may be more expensive.
The time and mileage of the extended SOA warranty plans begin with the in-service date of the vehicle, not from the expiration of the of the warranties that came with your Subaru nor the date/mileage when you bought the plan. For example, if you buy a 10 year / 100k Gold Plus plan, the extended warranty expires when your vehicle reaches 10 years of age or 100k miles, whichever comes first. So when it comes to power train coverage you are essentially buying an additional 5 years / 40k miles of coverage with the 10 year/100k mile plan.

Model Years 2018 to 2023 - Extended warranty

I “think” I am getting the classic plan…10/100,000 dealer quoted me $1560. Any thoughts if that’s an ok price?
What's the deductible?
@ForesterBill - If this was for me $100 deductible Sir. Message from dealer... "I just checked with the finance manger and the MSRP for the Subaru Classic Plan 10yr/100,000mi with $100 deductible is $2360. Your price for the Subaru Classic Plan 10yr/100,000mi with $100 deductible is $1,560"
Personally I would only go with a Gold Plus zero deductible plan. Classic Plan is essentially an extension of the power train warranty which you already have for 5 years / 60k miles. Gold Plus adds air conditioner, electrical (EyeSight, head unit) and many other components for which the warranty expires at 3 years / 36k miles. BTW, you have until the end of your basic 3 year / 36k mile warranty to purchase an Added Security plan, and you can purchase it from ANY Subaru dealer over the phone...so shop around.
@DragonSubie7 - My experience from other automakers is that plans go up a couple hundred dollars per year…the only reason I was thinking buying now and not waiting 3 years/36k as prices could go up $300, $400 or more in 3 years? Thoughts?

There is no built-in/scheduled price increase for waiting but prices may go up due to inflation. Whatever you do don't buy a third party or dealer-back extended warranty. A manufacturer's warranty like SOA offers is the only way to go.
@ForesterBill 10yr/100,000mi Classic with $100 deductible is $1,560 10yr/100,000mi Gold Plus $100 Deductible is $2025. 10yr/100,000mi Gold Plus $0 Deductible is $2325 I guess the only question I have is within 10 years (I’ll never hit 100k) will I cover the difference with a repair of “Plus” items… pretty likely probably. Although I could spend $1560 and pocket the the cash for a repair. Decisions, decisions….
I'll second @ForesterBill re buying an SOA-backed warranty. The F&I guy at our dealer was really pushing a 3rd party warranty but due to my job with weekly travel up to 300+ miles from home I wanted the security of knowing any dealer in the country can pull up my VIN on Subarunet and right there at the top of the page is the warranty. No hassles, no filing claims for reimbursement.
I believe the Gold warranty is Indeed transferable.
FelineFreddie said: I believe the Gold warranty is Indeed transferable. Click to expand...
True that. The owner can transfer the warranty to a new owner on a private sale, which is actually a great reason to buy the warranty. Selling a used car with a substantial warranty is a salient selling point. There is a modest transfer fee, but you can roll that into the purchase price.
For those that were able to negotiate a lower cost for the extended warranty, what is a reasonable savings? 10%? 25%? I would like to get it at the time I purchase the Forester and would like to say I would take it at such and such price, or walk away and perhaps to get it in 3 years time. My personal experience with extended plans and I have only had one once, was I never used it and all of the new cars I have owned the last 30 years did not require any major repairs outside of the standard warranty period With the exception of a navigation unit. They were mostly Hondas and Acuras with a Ford thrown into the mix. I have never owned a Subaru never had a CVT or a Boxer engine.

I read some posts on Reddit where one Subaru dealer in Ontario dropped the cost of the extended warranty considerably twice, in a short period of time, without much prompting from the buyer.. When the time comes I will need a good poker face and be prepared to walk away, knowing that I have three years to decide. We will keeping the Forester for 10+ years so the extended warranty is likely something we will get. I also read a number of reviews that gave positive reviews on the Subaru warranty with the caveat of if you could, or could not afford an expensive repair on your own.

The Fed Makes a Large Rate Cut and Forecasts More to Come
Fed officials kicked off rate cuts with a half-point reduction, confident that inflation is cooling and eager to keep the job market strong.

By Jeanna Smialek
The Federal Reserve cut interest rates on Wednesday by half a percentage point, an unusually large move and a clear signal that central bankers think they are winning their war against inflation and are turning their attention to protecting the job market.
“Our patient approach over the past year has paid dividends,” Jerome H. Powell, the Fed chair, said during his news conference. But now “the upside risks to inflation have diminished, and the downside risks to unemployment have increased.”
The Fed’s decision lowers rates to about 4.9 percent, down from a more than two-decade high.
The pivot comes in response to months of fading inflation, and it is meant to prevent the economy from slowing so much that the job market begins to weaken more painfully. Officials have been keeping a careful eye on a recent uptick in the unemployment rate, and by starting off with a big cut, the Fed is in effect taking out insurance against a bigger employment slowdown.
Reinforcing that cautious message, the decisive reduction came alongside economic projections that suggested a more rapid pace of rate cuts than officials had envisioned just a few months ago. Officials now expect to make another half-point reduction before the end of the year.
“We’re going to take it meeting by meeting,” Mr. Powell said. “We made a good, strong start to this, and that is frankly a sign of our confidence, confidence that inflation is coming down.”
Federal Reserve Cuts Interest Rates for the First Time in Four Years
Jerome h. powell, the fed chair, said that the central bank would take future interest rate cuts “meeting by meeting” after lowering rates by a half percentage point, an unusually large move..
Today, the Federal Open Market Committee decided to reduce the degree of policy restraint by lowering our policy interest rate by a half percentage point. Our patient approach over the past year has paid dividends. Inflation is now much closer to our objective, and we have gained greater confidence that inflation is moving sustainably toward 2 percent. We’re going to take it meeting by meeting. As I mentioned, there’s no sense that the committee feels it’s in a rush to do this. We made a good, strong start to this, and that’s really, frankly, a sign of our confidence — confidence that inflation is coming down.

Cheaper Mortgages and Car Loans: Lower Rates Are on the Horizon
With the Federal Reserve lowering interest rates, some borrowing costs have begun to ease — signs that loans may become cheaper in the near future.
