• Welcome Address for New Principal

Welcome speeches are delivered to greet and acknowledge the presence of a person or a group of people in a particular event or occasion. They are typically given at the beginning of a formal or informal gathering such as a conference, ceremony, or social event. The main purpose of a welcome speech is to create a warm and inviting atmosphere and to set the tone for the rest of the event.

A good welcome speech should be brief, engaging, and relevant to the occasion. It should acknowledge the importance of the event, recognize the guests or attendees, and express gratitude for their presence. Depending on the event, a welcome speech may also include an overview of the program or schedule, a statement of the event's goals or objectives, or an inspiring message that captures the theme or spirit of the occasion.

Overall, a well-crafted welcome speech can help to create a positive and memorable experience for the guests and set the tone for a successful and enjoyable event.

Dr. jackson's office, the 10 minute principal’s welcome message.

welcome speech for school principal

Being introduced to your new staff can be a very anxious, exciting, and nerve wrecking moment. However, knowing what to say, how to say it, and how long the message should be is critical as every word will be dissected. I’ve had the luxury of leading four schools at all levels through transformation and according to the teachers, when I was introduced, my welcoming message was critical in determining if they were confident in me being their leader. Here are a few tips for principals, when introduced to your new staff.

#1 Open with a Joke (1 minute)

The tension in an introductory meeting will be tense. This is for a few reasons: 1) teachers dread going to meetings; 2) if you’re replacing a well-liked principal, there may be some resentment; and 3) this time of year, teachers are tired, exhausted, and only thinking about summer break. However,  Laughter  is one of the best emotional and physical therapies for anyone under stress. A good, hearty  laugh  relieves physical  tension  and stress, leaving your muscles relaxed for up to 45 minutes. Opening with a funny joke will relieve the tension in the room. Even if no one laughs at your joke, just say “that was a joke and it wasn’t funny that’s why I chose to be an educator.” This is guaranteed to get a few giggles.

#2 Lead with Your Educational Story (2-3 minutes)

When you were announced as principal the news began to spread like wildfire. There will be many rumors and perceptions. Therefore, during your introduction meeting, the staff will not be worried about your college degrees, professional affiliations, or which college you graduated from. However, they will be concerned about what type of person you are. There are a few points that need to be mentioned when delivering your “Educational Story.”

1.) Your Family History

I usually start of by simply stating I’m from a large family of eight (six boys and two girls). I’m the second oldest, but the oldest boy. From an early age the word teamwork and accountability were important to me as it was my responsibility to ensure the chores were done correctly. It’s important for your staff to know this side of you.

2.) Why Did You Become an Educator?

This is important to teachers as they will be able to connect with you and most will immediately form an opinion of the type of instructional leader you are. This is your time to shine.

3.) Transition from the Classroom to Leadership

It’s important to mention your progression to becoming an instructional leader. For example, I had no desire to become an administrator. However, my grade level team voted for me to represent them on the leadership team. Once a member on the leadership team, I was voted to be the teacher representative for the PTA. Next, the PTA voted me to be a representative for the Local School Council. It was at that point, my principal enquired about me seeking an educational leadership position. I spent three years as an assistant principal and this is my first year as principal and I’m super excited.

#3 Your Mission, Vision, and Expectations (2 minutes)

After your educational story, the staff will be eager to hear your mission, vision, and expectations for the school. During this portion of the message although critical, it’s important to keep it short and to the point. This is where the rubber meets the road. A  mission  is a public declaration used to describe the purpose and major organizational commitments—i.e., what they do and why they do it. A vision is used to describe high-level goals for the future—what they hope to achieve if they successfully fulfill their organizational purpose or mission. Finally, what are your expectations for your teachers? These are critical and must be mentioned.

My mission is to create a “Professional Learning Community” where we focus on “Three Big Ideas.” These ideas are: 1) Focus on learning rather than teaching; 2) Create a Culture of Collaboration; and 3) Create an Environment where we focus of results (Own the Data). My vision is for 100% of our students to excel academically, socially, and to be prepared for the next phase in their education. Finally, as the leader I have a few expectations. First, I expect everyone to be on time for work. Secondly, as part of creating a culture of collaboration, the words, We, Us, Ours, will be used often. The words, me, my, and I will not be a part of our culture. Finally, I expect every child to be treated with the upmost respect.

#4 Be Vulnerable (2 minute)

As a principal, you must be knowledgeable, in so many different areas it’s scary. However, knowing what you don’t know it all and expressing what you don’t know to your staff can be powerful. For example, when I was asked to go to middle school after spending 5 years at the elementary level, I was terrified. However, when I was introduced to the staff, my words to the staff were, “I don’t know it all, don’t act like I know it all, and I will make many mistakes please forgive me in advance. I’m a team player and I’ll be the captain most of the time. However, there will be many times, you will be the captain and I’ll have to follow and I’m not afraid to follow. Being vulnerable shows your staff that you’re human.

#5 Be Honest (2 minutes)

In an era of accountability, the stress and strain on schools are enormous. Therefore, it’s important to have high expectations, but have realistic expectations as well. After being introduced as a principal to the third lowest performing school in the state, my message to my staff was very clear. Yes, we have a mountain to climb. This climb will be filled with many obstacles, trials, tribulations, up& downs, tears, pain, agreements, disagreements, and pitfalls. However, our goals remain the same and that’s for 100% of students to excel academically, socially, and be prepared for their next phase in their educational journey (notice I didn’t mention the state exam). All I want at the end of the year is for us to be able to say “this child was here and now they’re here and made significant growth. Honesty is one of the key ingredients of a successful school.

In conclusion, it’s important to keep your welcome message to no more than 10 minutes. Remember the teachers are exhausted but are very interested in who’s leading their school. These five points should be written and practiced before the meeting and taken very seriously. This is the beginning of establishing your brand and should not be taken lightly. Good Luck on your new position!

Ideas for welcoming a new school principal

John Brett

Ideas for Welcoming a New Principal

Welcoming a new principal is an exciting time for any school community. The appointment of a new educator offers the opportunity for fresh ideas and educational philosophies to be introduced into the school community. When a school undergoes a personnel exchange of an essential role, it is crucial to offer school members transparency with detailed information on the transition. This can be done by effectively introducing the new faculty member to the community.

The process of introducing a new principal involves multiple steps and preparations. The school should be ready to answer any questions or concerns that parents may have, assuring that their students’ education remains well cared for. Providing an abundance of information and details on the role transition in a transparent fashion can be achieved with an announcement sent to members of the school, as well as an assembly where students and faculty can learn about their new principal on a more personal level.

How to Introduce a New Principal

Properly introducing a new principal to students, parents and faculty is important for a seamless shift in the role. The process should be done in a professional, yet exciting manner—it is a time of celebration and change.

Conducting an informational assembly is a great option for keeping students and faculty up-to-date with the role. An assembly should be announced ahead of time, and the school should plan on what will be discussed during the presentation. The assembly should include the principal introducing themself and speaking on their excitement to start the role. Information on the principal’s previous experience and dedication to quality education should also be included, as well as a question portion that allows students to be involved in the transition.

While it is imperative to introduce a new principal to students and faculty, it also essential to keep parents informed about the change in faculty. This can be done by sending out a professionally written announcement to the parents and school community members, including a personal welcome message from the principal.

Welcome Message for New Principal

A welcome message will help answer any questions that may arise during the transition, and it gives the new principal the opportunity to personally introduce themself and speak on their excitement to begin the role. A new principal announcement sent to school members should be composed with a cheerful, yet sophisticated tone.

The announcement should include information on when the principal will begin the new role and express the school’s enthusiasm to welcome the principal to the community. The announcement should also include a personal letter or message written by the new principal. The principal’s letter will act as a first impression to the students, parents and faculty, so it is important to include plenty of information in an appreciative tone to ensure the community is comfortable with the transition.

Content within the welcome message can include details regarding the principal’s background experience in education. It should express their eagerness to take on the role, their admiration of the school and their understanding of the importance of the role. The letter can also feature the principal’s values or philosophy on education. Lastly, it is also beneficial for the principal to deliver admiration of former principal and their management of the role.

Example of a new principal welcome message

Below is an example of a new principal welcome message from John Brett, following his appointment to the position at The British School of Beijing, Sanlitun in August 2018.

“Dear Parents,

I am extremely grateful to David Laird for giving me this opportunity to introduce myself to you. In taking up the baton of Principal from David later this year, I realise that I have very big shoes to fill and I am keen to do all I can to ensure as smooth and efficient handover as possible.

My visit to BSB Sanlitun in January confirmed to me that I will be joining a vibrant and dynamic school community where all the students from pre-school and Early Years through to the final year students in Year 6 are valued as individuals and given outstanding opportunities to discover and develop their talents and interests. In talking to some of the teachers during the selection process, I was particularly moved by their passion for the school and their determination to be strong advocates for the pupils in their care. I have been involved in education since the 1980s and a great deal has changed during that time. For schools, and for parents, technology and the impact that it has made in the world of work, for example, has meant that we have had to re-think our ideas about the kinds of skills and capacities that our children are going to need if they are to thrive in the future. Creativity, assessing risk and reward, problem-solving, invention and collaboration are now all central themes in a progressive teaching and learning environment and I have seen much evidence of these at BSB Sanlitun, as well as at the other Nord Anglia schools I have had the opportunity to visit. I look forward to exploring and developing such ideas over the coming years with the talented and dedicated teaching team at BSB.

One thing has not changed in the last 30 years however, and that is the need for a school to have a strong and shared set of values by which it operates and goes about its daily business. Whatever the future may hold, kindness, respect, tolerance, sense of humour and service to others will always be the hallmarks of a sophisticated and progressive society. I feel honoured to have this wonderful opportunity of working with you, the teaching and support staff, and of course the students of BSB Sanlitun, and very much look forward to meeting you in person.”

How to Welcome a New Principal

While it is important to introduce a principal to the members of a school, it is just as important to welcome the principal to the new position so that they feel appreciated and ready to join a wonderful school community. A fantastic way for any school member to embrace their new principal into the community is to reach out with a personal message. This allows the school member to introduce themselves. If possible, it is also a kind gesture to welcome the new principal to the school with an in-person meeting for a more intimate introduction and conversation.

With the right approach, introducing and welcoming a new principal to a school community can be a seamless and exciting process for all involved. For information on the principal, teachers and job openings at The British International School of Beijing, Sanlitun, visit our website here .

The welcome speech template

To be effective your welcome speech needs to meet expected, as well as any specific, requirements dictated by the occasion.

The 6 standard welcome speech content ingredients

A woman with a cookbook reading a welcome speech recipe. Plus, a list of ingredients.

There are six common or standard content items in a good welcome speech.

  • Greetings to welcome everyone and thanking them for coming along.
  • Acknowledgement of special guests, if there are any.
  • An introduction of the event itself and a brief overview of special highlights the audience will want to know about.
  • Any important housekeeping information, for instance: where the bathrooms are, where lunch will be served and when...
  • An introduction for the next speaker, if there is one.
  • Thanking everyone for coming once more and then concluding having made everybody feel at ease, eagerly anticipating what is to come.

Numbers 1, 3, and 6 are basic essentials you cannot do without. Numbers 2, 4 and 5 may, or may not, be applicable. Pick what you need from them to fit your occasion.

dividing line dark green

Short sample welcome speech for a conference

Now let's put all six ingredients into an example of a short welcome speech to open a conference that you can adapt for your own speech.

* (This speech is pure fiction! I made it up to show you how it's done. You'll see its tone is formal rather than informal to fit the occasion. I don't think there is a group called Parents United. However, there are others with a similar mission: 10 Inspiring Organizations that Promote Literacy and Education .)

Example welcome speech - "Readers by Right"

"Sue-Ellen Thomas, Jim Smith, Jane Brown and all of our guests, good morning!

My name is April Molloy, and it's my privilege and great pleasure on behalf of Parents United to welcome you all here today.

We are delighted to have you with us to participate and share in this special occasion, our 5th annual Children's Day Conference. Thank you for coming. That many of you have willingly traveled long distances to be here serves as a reminder to us all just how important our work is.

Quote extract: We want all children, regardless of race, creed or circumstance to achieve their full potential.

Parents United is committed to actively raising the quality of life for every child. We want all children, regardless of race, creed or circumstance to achieve their full potential. Our task is to make it possible. Our mission is to provide practical, step by step assistance.

This year our theme is literacy. We've named the day 'Readers by Right'.

Thanks to the 1948 United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we are aware of 'rights' in many spheres, including education.  Article 26 declared it should be compulsory and free for children.

That goal is as pertinent today as it was then. And it's a goal I know we all share - the full development of every child. As a body, Parents United recognizes good reading skills established in childhood as the foundation of fulfilling, and ongoing education.

Quote extract: Jim and Jane bring their passion and knowledge of how to reach those in our communities who are frequently overlooked or bypassed.

We are honored to have Sue-Ellen Thomas, Jim Smith and Jane Brown with us today. All three are esteemed specialists in teaching young children to read.

Sue-Ellen has worked for a long time with educational authorities to establish programs putting in place necessary pre-reading skills. Her hard work needs no introduction. The results speak for themselves.

Jim and Jane bring their passion, and knowledge of how to reach those in our communities who are frequently overlooked or bypassed. Their work among disadvantaged English-as-a-second-language families has bridged gaps that were deep dark chasms.

Prepare yourself to be challenged, excited and inspired.

And before I handover to Lesley Watts, our coordinator for 'Readers by Right', who will outline the day's various events, I want to say once more on behalf of the Parents United organizing committee, welcome. It's wonderful to see so many of you here."

Get your welcome speech started

To shortcut wondering, "Should I say this?" or "Maybe I should say that?" and "Then again there's also ...", I have a very simple solution for you.

Download and print my  special greeting address planner .

It covers ALL the necessary ingredients that go into preparing a successful welcome speech. It's simple to use and easily filled out. Once it's done, writing your speech will be a lot less hassle as you'll have the core content ready to work with.

Writing your welcome speech

Tips to help you get your speech right.

When you're entering information into your speech planner:

  • ensure you've got all the names of individuals or special guests you need to mention specifically and, that you know how to pronounce each of them. Also check that you know and use their preferred pronouns: them/they, she/her, he/him...
  • double check the remarks you're going to make about them, or anything else, are factually correct.

Use your introduction of your guests/or the event, as a "teaser" for what is going to come. It will help create anticipation in the audience. Don't ruin it by giving too much away! Just enough to tempt and no more.

Keep it brief. One to two minutes is generally sufficient.

(The word count of my sample welcome speech is 357. It will take approximately 2 minutes to say .)

Use the S-S-S formula for success: Short, Simple and Sincere. Your listeners will appreciate it.

If you're stuck for words, here's a large selection of  adaptable welcoming phrases with example s entences.  Reading through them could help you to find exactly what you want.

What does a good welcome speech do?

Audience members listening intently.

An effective welcome speech has three important functions. It:

  • signals the official beginning of an event . It says to the audience, hush, sit down, stop talking and listen. What you came for is starting!
  • sets the tone for the occasion through the choice of language used . For example, using light-hearted and informal words to welcome guests to a dear friend's birthday party may be completely appropriate.  However, the same type of language to welcome family and friends to a memorial service is unlikely to be. In that setting, people generally expect a more solemn and formal word choice. They could be deeply offended and think the use of casual language is disrespectful.  Understanding and getting tone right is a key element in the overall success of your welcome speech.
  • unites the audience . It draws everyone together in the common purpose at the heart of the occasion. For example, at a birthday party, the welcome speech invites everyone to join in celebrating the person whose birthday it is. The welcome speech opening a specialist conference will affirm its principal purpose: the coming together of people with mutual interests to meet and share new knowledge. Or if a welcome speech is given to newcomers in a workplace, club or educational setting, its purpose is to give an introductory overview of how things work to help them feel more at ease in their new situation - to help them develop a sense of belonging.

Getting the tone right for an event

What is tone.

Tone is the combined impact of the words chosen to express something, with how they are structured and, delivered.  All three elements come together to create tone * .

Get tone wrong, and your welcome speech is a disaster.

Get it right, and it's a triumph!

(Yes, that's hyperbole but I'm sure you get the idea. ☺)

* Tone - a mood, quality or feeling

How to choose the right words

The beginning of getting tone right is to think about your audience and the event itself. Your goal is to unite and bring them together in the main purpose at the core of the occasion. What type of language will do that most appropriately and easily?

Infographic illustrating the principal differences between formal and informal language to create tone

To answer that question, think about the common interest everybody shares - the principal reason behind them getting together.  It will help guide your language choice.

Is it a fun event like a birthday party for close friends and family? If so, then informal language is likely to be the most apt.

You might hear something along the lines of: "Well, here we all are! The big day has finally arrived. Jean-Marie is 50! Half a century! How on earth did that happen?"

If it's a remembrance service for someone who has recently died, the language you're likely to hear is more formal.

For example: "Friends, family, colleagues, thank you for joining us today to celebrate and give thanks for our dear Jean-Marie. Your presence is gratefully appreciated."

What is appropriate? What is expected?  Do spend some time thinking tone through. Misunderstanding and getting it wrong can be very embarrassing for everyone. If in doubt, ask someone whose opinion you trust.

Welcome Speech by Principal Example

Profile image of vincent nelly

Dear Teachers and Students, Good morning! Welcome back to school! I hope you have enjoyed yourselves well in the summer holiday, and prepared yourselves well for the study of the new academic year. Today is the first time for me to address you in a formal school ceremony and I would like to begin with a brief self-introduction. My name is Wan Ho Yin and My English name is Hairo. To me, being able to make contribution to life education is a very noble mission. I had started dreaming to be a teacher as early as when I was just a Primary One student. Undoubtedly I was deeply influenced by my school teachers and they acted as very amazing role models for me. I started my teaching career shortly after graduating from the University of Hong Kong. Despite teaching for over twenty years, my passion for education is still very strong. I believe that our children are our future and our future must be bright because of the quality education that we can provide. Indeed it is my honor to be a principal in Yuen Long Lutheran Secondary School as it is truly a school glorifying our god and beneficial to the mankind. Thanks God! I would like to share with you great news in the academic performance of our school: our graduates got very remarkable results in the HKDSE and they performed much better than that of the previous year. The overall percentage of getting Level 2 or above in all subjects is 97%. And the overall percentage of getting Level 4 or above and Level 5 or above in all subjects are 57% and 19% respectively. The credit rate of 94.4% subjects (18 subjects) are much higher than that of all schools in HK. The rate of L5 or above of 74% (14 subjects) subjects is much higher than that of all schools in HK. Over 73% of our graduates meet the entrance requirements of degree programs. In the clearing round of the JUPAS, 53% of our graduates have entered local universities for degree and sub-degree programs.

welcome speech for school principal

Eva Hagenhofer

This is a story about urban students becoming urban teachers. It begins with the 1988 U.S. Department of Education funding of a bold idea: attracting multicultural/multilingual students to begin their teacher preparation at a two year college, preparing them to continue at a 4 year college. This is how the Milwaukee Area Technical College became one of the first ( if not the first ) 2 year colleges in the country to offer such a program. The Cooperative Urban Teacher Education Program (CUTEP), then the Teacher Education track, and now Educational Foundations has, throughout these name changes, aimed to recruit and prepare students of color and their allies for success in K-12 licensing tracks at 4 year colleges and then as teachers in the Milwaukee Public School district. The characteristics of Star Teachers of Children in Poverty, as posited and discussed by Dr. Martin Haberman in his 1995 publication, are discussed and then exemplified by the words of CUTEP alumni, gleaned and directly quoted from interviews conducted with the author, a 10 year teacher and coordinator of the program now known as the Educational Foundations track of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The interview questions were shared prior to face-to-face conversations and were intended to surface the students’ thoughts on how their personal backgrounds and educational experiences within the 2 year college program contributed to their ability to navigate the 4 year college environment and, subsequently, guide their professional practice, decision making, and relationships in their school buildings. Their responses reveal a profound commitment to students, but also a frustration with time-consuming reporting mandates, constantly changing curriculum standards, over-filled classrooms, insufficient support from other professionals, and resistance to addressing the systemic causes of racially identifiable gaps in achievement. As school districts face staffing shortages due to veteran teachers retiring, younger teachers leaving the profession, and college-age students choosing professions with greater monetary and psychological compensation and respect, the words of these former students, now teachers are instructive. Their reflections on their own educational backgrounds, near misses and achievements, reveal a deep desire to be effective teachers of “their own”, knowing that for poor children, having an effective teacher is, as Haberman puts it, “a matter of life and death.”

This report details the continuing outstanding academic standards of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) by focussing on undergraduate admissions for the year 2014-15. It explains the background to this, including the virtually 100% employment record of HKU graduates every year for the last 8 years, and the high academic achievements of Asian students. The report covers local Hong Kong, Mainland Chinese and International recruitment and admissions, and describes the ways in which the University, and its students, engage internationally and regionally.

Welcome Speech for Annual Function

Esteemed Guest of Honor, Hon’ble Principal, Vice Principal, Respected Teachers and My Dear Friends – I warmly welcome all of you to the annual function of our school!

I, Arpita Sehgal from Grade-X (B), feel extremely glad to have been hosting today’s program which I am sure everyone looks forward to. I can see happy, smiling faces everywhere! Clearly, the occasion is special, as this event truly showcases the achievements and talents of this school. We also feel extremely proud to have Mrs. ……… as the chief guest in our school annul function.

Her achievements in the field of academics are laudable and her efforts for the upliftment of the weaker section of society, especially the underprivileged children leave us inspired. We are really under the spell of your personality, ma’am. I sincerely hope that we could one day become like you, who can make her country proud through her noble actions. So we cannot fully express how much happy we are to have received you as our guest today. I am sure you are going to have one of your best times here.

Our students have worked really hard on their individual performances and I really hope that their hard work today brings out the best within them. These students are an epitome of talent and creativity – whether we talk about sports, dance forms, singing, etc. our school doesn’t lag behind and the students year after year are making everyone, i.e. our principal, vice principal and teachers very proud by getting accolades and rewards from outside the campus.

In fact, the students of our school have represented the institution on various levels, inter-school, zonal as well as national levels. So today they are going to showcase the same talent in order to make this year’s annual function even more memorable. They have been working really hard from past one month along with their mentors.

Along with some spectacular performances by our students, we have also organized the award giving ceremony towards the end in order to acknowledge and laud the efforts of those who have contributed in some way or the other towards the school. We truly believe that their efforts shouldn’t go unrecognized as these people inspire others to do well in life and set examples for others. It is therefore, the time to celebrate their victory and our school’s unending glory. I hope our school and the people associated with it continue to do good work and set an ideal benchmark in all the fields.

Now on this note, I would like to conclude my speech and call upon stage both our Hon’ble principal as well as vice principal to felicitate our guest tonight with a bouquet, and say a few words in this regard as only then the event will kick start.

Thank you so much everyone for listening to me so patiently, now get ready for lots of entertainment and spectacular performances today. I am sure you are not going to realize how the time will just fly!

Welcome Speech for Annual Function 2

Warm Greetings Ladies and Gentlemen – I welcome everyone to our college’s annual function!

I am sure you all must be excited for today like I am, and must be looking forward to some electrifying performances, right! But, before we kick start the event of the day, please allow me to thank and introduce our guest of honor Mr. ……… who has taken his precious time out to grace the occasion today. He needs no introduction as he is a famous writer; whose books are well read and found with many of us. So, along with the annual function we all, especially the students, are very excited for your visit. We are highly obliged that you have paid a visit to our college.

Also, I would like to especially welcome our Hon’ble chairman, vice chairman, committee members, principal, vice principal, professors and last but not the least our audience – the lovely students!

Before I take this program further, let me introduce myself to you all – I am Vishal Khanna – the final year student of B.COM (H) and your host for today. I believe that annual day is one of the most important days for both schools and colleges as on this day we celebrate the success of our institution, the achievements of our students and of course our professors who teach us with a lot of dedication and sincerity. So let us make this day memorable with a few cultural programs, such as singing and dance performances. On this day, our students get the opportunity to showcase their talent in co-curricular activities.

Today, I stand here in front of you all with a lot of pride, for being part of an educational institution, that gives equal opportunities to all the students, provides one of the finest experiences in studies and on the top of it offers a great culture. Here, in our college we are not only made to focus on our academics, but also on our overall development so that we can become responsible citizens of our country who are compassionate and helpful towards others.

In the span of gone 2 years, I have learnt a lot and received a lot of exposure. What I am today, I wasn’t the same 2 years back – I have become much more confident and assertive. Our college has given me wings to fly and our professors have always been accessible to us so much so that we could share our personal problems with them.

Our achievements and awards speak volumes about our college and its quality of education. And now it’s time to enjoy those moments of glory and make the best of this time today. So on this note, I would like to request our Hon’ble principal ma’am and vice principal ma’am to come on stage and address our students. Only after that, will we kick start the performances of today. Everyone just hold your breath and get ready for some amazing performances.

This is all from my side, thank you!

Welcome Speech for Annual Function 3

Warm Greetings Hon’ble Principal, Vice Principal, Teachers and My Dear Students – I welcome everyone to the 26 th annual function of our school.

It gives me immense pleasure to host today’s annual function of our school and feels extremely glad to be standing in front of you all and sharing this stage with my co-host. Now that our guest of honor, Mr. ……., the acclaimed academician is here, I would like to welcome him and express my gratitude on behalf of the entire school to have come to our school and gracing the occasion with his presence. I also want to extend special thanks to our respected principal for making this day happen and providing all her possible help in order to make this day this grand.

Last, but not the least I also would like to give a warm welcome to the parents of all the students. We can’t thank all the parents enough for nurturing us and giving us wings to fly. So special thanks to all the parents!

The day has finally arrived for which we all have been waiting so impatiently! So the wait is over now! But before we kick start with today’s events, please allow me to give a kind introduction of myself and my co-host. I – Saransh Kapoor from Class – XII (B), Commerce Stream and my co-host is Miss. Neha Juneja from IX (C), Humanities Stream. I hope we both could impress you all with our hosting abilities; therefore, we also seek your cooperation. Please remain seated on your respective chairs and get ready for loads of entertainment.

However, it is not going to be a day of entertainment only, but also of recognition. As the ritual goes, our school is going to reward/award the teachers and students for bringing accolades to our school and adding more glory to its name. Besides, I also want to share one great piece of news with you all and I feel immensely proud to say that our school has been selected as the present year’s best school in the city. Isn’t it so wonderful to hear that? Of course, I can see a big smile on everyone’s faces!

Secondly, our students have proven their excellence in multiple fields, academic and non-academic both. Of course non-academic varies from dance and singing to sports. Their relentless efforts have borne fruit and the efforts of our teachers too. And I can hesitatingly say that we have the best teachers in our school. It goes without saying that such acclamation and rewards provide fuel for the future years to come. This helps us in preparing even harder for the future.

These inter-school competitions also help us in remaining abreast of all the latest developments in the educational field and new teaching techniques due to cross-boundary interactions. So, I hope that our school continues to become a part of these competitions and prove its mettle in varied fields.

With this, I would like to bring my speech to a closure and get started with today’s program. So give a huge round of applause for our junior students from V standard.

Welcome Speech for Annual Function 4

Warm Greetings Everyone! I welcome all to the 5 th annual function in our ABC Academy of Commerce.

I – Akshat Khanna, is your host for today and just like you all truly look forward to seeing some amazing performances by our lovely students. The day is truly special for all the founders and people associated with this institute; because, today we have successfully completed 5 years and will now be entering into the 6 th year of our association. It feels like yesterday, when we started off this venture and today I can say with a lot of pride that our institute has touched great heights.

We treasure our students and nothing gives us more happiness than seeing their contented faces and them doing well in academics. This institute was founded with a view to provide quality education to the students and help them in achieving their career goals. I am glad that in past three years we have been able to abide by our principles and make quality education and friendly environment available to our students.

Therefore, in order to celebrate our victory and recognize the efforts of our students, we have been celebrating annual function every year with great zeal and show, so much so that it has now become a yearly ritual. Everyone right from the administration to our students, eagerly await this propitious day in order that the complete unit of this institute should come together and celebrate the success of our institute. So these annual functions not just give us a reason to celebrate and enjoy together under one roof, but are also symbolic of our institute’s growth and success year after year.

This goes without saying that I feel extremely proud to be a part of this institution where we not only teach our students and help them excel in their respective area of studies, but also work on their personalities for their overall development.

Now without any further ado, I would like to conclude my speech and kick start with today’s program which you all have been waiting for so eagerly. Ladies and Gentlemen and our dear students, get ready for our first Dance Performance by “Aakriti Dance Group”. They are an 8-members group with students trained in Classical Dance Form. Please welcome them with a huge round of applause.

Now, after that incredible dance performance, it’s time to soothe your ears with the melodious voice of our student, i.e. Natasha who will be gracing the stage with her singing performance on one of the most popular songs of Sunidhi Chauhan.

Last but not least, is the prize distribution ceremony where our juries have to take the toughest call of selecting the winners because we feel that everyone is the best. In order to do the honors, May I please call on stage our Principal and Chief Guest for the prize distribution ceremony.

In the end, I would just like to say to all the students, that you all are the winners in our eyes and it’s highly commendable that you removed all your inhibitions and showcased your talent on the stage so nicely. We all seriously remained spell bound throughout all the performances. So let’s have a huge round of applause for all the participants!

Thank you so much, Cheers!

Principal Graduation Speeches - Cohesive Commitment and Cooperation

Principal graduation speeches - words of wisdom for a farewell speech that pays tribute to all the stakeholders!

principal-graduation-speeches

Principal graduation speeches are great. You can use them as a guideline to structure your own personalized speech.

Use the aspects that are relevant to you; lose the parts that may be redundant and then...most importantly...add your own special personal touch .

Good quotes for graduation speeches leave a lingering and memorable note - so try and weave one or two pertinent quotes into your high school graduation speech.

Good Evening Honored Guests , Ladies and Gentlemen - [insert specific details of special guests here if necessary]

A graduation ceremony is always such a special occasion - the culmination of years of hard work; the actualization of goals attained and the acknowledgement of successes achieved. So, it is only fitting that tonight we commemorate the road that we have all traveled together these last few years.

It has been a journey that started with tentative steps perhaps, but one that has taken us to remarkable heights. We have encountered some trials and tribulations along the way...soldiered on and come out the stronger for them. We have experienced exceptional moments, magical moments and created memories that will be fondly remembered in the years ahead.

Henry Ford wisely said, "Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress and working together is success." As we look back over the last few years, certainly there was a beginning, and thankfully there was also progress and yes - undeniably we have been successful!

But let's begin where all good stories begin - at the beginning!

Who can forget when we all came together for the first time - nervous young students in the [insert grade] , proud parents, the Board of Governors and a dedicated staff body. What a commencement ceremony it was, signaling what would be the start of wonderful things to come. Yes, we all came together with a common purpose in mind - to encourage and develop lifelong learning in the young Ladies and Gentlemen who sit before us this evening.

Steadfast, resolute and determined we all kept together. Day-by-day we focused on our goal, keeping together and working together. We faced some incredible and memorable moments - moments that we chose to use as stepping stone as we tenaciously pursued our common goals. And what progress we made, as just a few of the following highlights attest to:

[insert memorable moments or highlight - academic, sporting, cultural or community here to add your own personal touch]

The end result Ladies and Gentlemen of our coming together, keeping together and working together, in spite of the obstacles that we may have faced along the way... that end result is the Graduating Class of [insert year]. My, how proud we are of the success that they have made with the opportunities that they were offered. Congratulations, we are inordinately proud of you all!

You are ready, willing and more than able to grasp the torch that we bestow upon you- yours is the future and on you the world will come to depend.

May your years ahead continue to be characterized by empathy, compassion, objectivity and a willingness to take risks.

May you always lead by example and work hard and play straight.

May your successes be many and your tribulations be few and far between.

We wish you everything that you so richly deserve in the years ahead - it has been an honor and a privilege watching your progress and success!

Principal graduation speeches - ending off on a high note!

It is because of your unconditional love, care, and support that we have been able to achieve this success. Undoubtedly, we are very fortunate to have such well-wishers in our life who recognize our worth. We treasure your concerns and cherish your esteem presence in our life.

Before beginning today’s event, I would request one of our esteem guests to come upon the stage and impart a few words of wisdom.

Long and Short Welcome Speech on Annual Day to Welcome Principal and Chief Guest

Speech on annual day – 1.

Good Morning! Today is the most important day in my school. Yes it is ANNUAL Day and the time to wrap up all that we have done in the year. A year that is about to end and a new one that is about to begin. Our school, a hub of all the activities and a place where we learn a whole gamut of subjects that include the more serious ones like science and maths to the ones that we learn while we simply practicing them, like art and sports.

The year 2017 has indeed been a roller coaster ride just like the previous years. A time full of opportunities, a time full of learning, and time well spent; learning and enjoying with friends all at the same time. Being competitive at some times and a helping hand at others, it indeed has been a superb period, months that have gone by and will never return.

The best part is friends that we together have been able to win a lot of accolades and trophies and prizes for us and our school. We have shown everyone that together we can win! It is a time to celebrate, and enjoy our achievements together. Here we are, to display to our parents that we children, can give in our best when the best hands mould us and where there are God’s messengers all around in here, to nurture our talent, give us a conducive environment where we can grow, not just physically, but mentally and socially too. Under the guidance of the best brains and the most hard working creatures, our dear teachers, we have put up this show together for all our proud parents for this very special day, our Annual day, 2017. It is a program, our parents can feast their eyes on drama, dance, poetry, singing and a talk show. Children of Junior School have put up a musical version of the most adorable book by Rudyard Kipling, The Jungle Book.

On this Annual Day we have included an absolutely a new section. We have included a set of games that the children and parents will play as a team. It is a promise that it will be a fun affair and we are all going to enjoy; children and parents on one side and teachers and school staff on another. Simple games like tug of war, three-legged race and Relay races are organised in the school greens soon after the show in the auditorium comes to an end. What a healthy way to end our Annual Day. I am sure we will all participate whole heartedly and parents are a huge support and do not disappoint us. We have had to take special permission from our respected Principal Madam. She is a wonderful person; she loved the theme and immediately gave her consent. I thank her and request her to please join us in our little effort to bring the whole School family together and make our Annual Day 2017 a huge success.

Time now to begin the program, antennary of which is given to our esteemed guests in advance. There are refreshments arranged in the school cafeteria after the program in the auditorium ends.

So parents, come now, enjoy with us. These moments of fun, frolic, laughter together with the children and their teachers, will not come again, at least not in this year!

Speech on Annual Day – 2

Good Morning to all present today on this very special occasion of Annual Day 2018. We at xyz School are proud to celebrate this day for yet another year. It is a celebration of our dear children and their achievements in the year going by.

On behalf of our school, I welcome our esteemed chief guest Mr/Ms _________________and parents, without their efforts we would have never achieved what we did in the past year. Today we have children from the middle school and junior school who are here to celebrate Annual Day in the form of showcasing their talents and ability to confidently perform on stage. The children have made great preparations along with their untiring teachers, and are ready to display in front of their parents what they can do if given a chance to be creative and to channelize their energies constructively.

Today, we are proud to share with you that our school has been selected as the best school of this city. Our children have proven excellence in their academic subjects and also in the various non academic fields like sports, art, IT and dance too. Their persistent efforts to continually keep doing well have shown unmatched result. We are proud to say that the school has the best teachers, we don’t merely hire them, we provide them the opportunity to grow as gurus, and always inspire them to keep learning and upgrading their knowledge. This keeps us abreast with the latest developments in the Field of academics and the learning techniques.

We will begin the day with performance by most of the children from our junior and middle school. The children work really hard throughout the year juggling through their classes and the art rooms, dance rooms, play ground and library. It is easier said than done. I witness everyday and wonder where they get all this energy from. But the truth is that they are all so well groomed at home by parents and by our teachers at school, that they remain self-motivated. Even the attitude of our teachers is extremely inspiring for them. An attitude that has a never say die spirit and one that is shown how things can be done by setting the right example. Children are like the soft lump of mud, mould them the way you want to. Inculcating the right habits, mannerisms and the right attitude towards working hard, not just work is so important at a tender age. So we begin early. Even the play schools have reduced the entry age of children to two and a half years. Catch them early, as an early bird catches the worm.

And if you miss this precious time, then nothing except repenting is what you can do. Parents, we understand you know what is best for your child, and now a days both parents go out and work. So at we do not miss an opportunity to remind you how important it is to spend quality time with your little ones. And along with that a daily basis consistent effort to know what is going on inside the head of your child is important. So form a relationship with them that gives them confidence to confide in you every single feeling and are not afraid to ask from you even the most complex and simple questions about life. It is after all your child who is asking, however embarrassing it may seem to you but learn to answer them in the most subtle. We have an extremely professional team of counsellors at school. Your children and you are free to take sessions with them after an appointment.

We all need some help to bring these little wonderful beings. And the best is to do it right, ask for help where in confusion and then do your best. We became parents for the first time too. Some bringing up is within us by the virtue of learning while doing it, and some by learning from our parents, the rest can be acquired.

So on this annual day let us all pledge to give our children not just love, but let us be their support whom they can fall back on when in trouble. Let them know that we are always there for them and they have no reason to be depressed or be tackling their problems alone. Let us nurture these tender buds carefully and see them bloom into responsible, successful citizens who can build a strong nation. Let us see them sore to success. I return the stage to this bunch of stars that are waiting to shine upon us their light.

“It’s not what you do for your children, it is what you taught them to do for themselves that will make them successful human beings” I leave you with these words by Ann Landers, a famous columnist and a media person.

Speech on Annual Day – 3

Good Morning

We all are here to celebrate the Annual Day in our School today and I welcome very respectable Director of our school, Mr ______________, all the parents who are the part of this humongous effort and the parents who have helped us during the preparations. It has been a pleasure to be associated with all the parents who are people from various walks of life who have added great value to our institution by the way of their invaluable inputs. We can proudly say that we have the best set of parents-children combination and the value system our school stands for.

Today is the day when we decorate with awards and medals, all those children, who have been receiving accolades throughout the year, for the talents they possess and have displayed them through the various competitions in school or at inter-school level.  It gives us pleasure to share with you that our school children not only excel in the sports competitions but also at the academic competitions like JSTSE, Olympiads of all subjects, essay writing competitions and many more. Competitions are platforms that we can provide to children where they can test their learning and they are by no means a measure of who is better than whom.

We believe in a lateral learning system wherein each child is encouraged to participate. Children who have inhibitions are encouraged to come forward at class level, an arena where their comfort level is higher than when they go out of their class rooms and perform. Our teaching methods are holistic and inclusive. This annual day celebration is a great example of that wherein we ensure that every child participate and perform. It gives each one of the student an opportunity to come forward and showcase what he or she has besides being good at academics.

We believe that without the outlet of their talents the whole teaching process is incomplete. So, on this Annual Day we have identified this need and designed the Annual Day program in such a way that even talents like art do not go unnoticed. If you look around you will notice a lot of drawings and posters. Each one bears names and classes of the students who have drawn, colored or painted these pictures. Do take some time to go through this precious gallery of art as this requires recognition too. And who knows that it could be your child who had this talent all this while but you did not know about it. And some of the pieces of art are award winning entries.

Annual Day usually has a plays and dances, we have included a new category which is a rage these days everywhere, every TV channel in the entertainment category show these – I am talking about Stand Up Comedy Section. Yes we have some very talented kids here who will make you roll up with barrels of laughter. So parents be prepared for a fun filled day. Our little children have put up a show that is a musical play; the middle schoolers have been busy preparing for the dance drama that I am told has been choreographed by our own little budding talented dance gurus. The bigger lot have the yoga, acrobatics and dance all rolled up in one to show to us , that I am told by their teachers who have been all out in their efforts they have put in for more than a month now to ensure a show that can surely challenge that professional artists from the entertainment industry.

I will not keep you waiting and leave the stage that will soon be filled with colour and exuberance to fill us up with laughter and happiness.

Speech on Annual Day – 4

Good Morning! A fresh lively morning with a promising start to a fun filled day awaits us all. I begin this day by praying to the supreme power to give all those present here fine health and sound mind.

It is important for each one of us to be good shape so we can do more, achieve more. “Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity”, wise words by John F. Kennedy. So whether we are young or old, it is our duty to take care of this body called temple by some.

We at XYZ School understand the importance of being fit because a healthy body has a healthy mind housed in it. And we strongly feel the importance of these words heard umpteen number of times by our parents and teachers when we were young. I am addressing this to the parents. Our children are in the tender formative years still. To inculcate the importance of games, outdoor activities and physical workouts, we organise Annual Day with the super-enthusiastic set of children who always look forward to it with same eagerness.

So here we are celebrating it for yet another year 2018. It is our 35 th Annual Day celebrations and we are proud to continue the legacy of celebrating this wonderful day with you. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we did while the children practiced each performance till they found perfection. That is the one quality one needs to inculcate within oneself is success is not just a desire but passion. And through this activity we instil in our children this virtue that they successfully apply in their academics too and excel in their subjects.

Where there are academic subjects that are important for the children to read and learn to enhance their knowledge and do justice to their brain and memory, there are activities related to co-curricular subjects that give children pleasure, precision and persistence to do more , take more and achieve more. All the children have some in born talent, some in science, some have it in history, and others may be good at sports, dance or crooning. But presenting these talents on stage builds confidence, courage and certitude to win.

On this day sub-junior and middle schoolers have participated to put together an extraordinary show for all of us to enjoy. The children are performing various activities like a Musical Drama based on the story of Shankar by R K Narayan, folk dance, poetry recitation, singing Hindi classical as well as English songs, magic show conducted purely by children and many more such activities.

Annual Day is a celebration of the achievements of our children whole year round. On this day we present the awards to our outstanding students, in academic subjects as well as in sports, Olympiads, inter-school competition winners and in house activity winners. There is nothing more encouraging that an award or a trophy that one can carry back home. It is a reminder to a person of the efforts he or she had put in consistently to win it. A sheer source of encouragement to do more! After the performances come closer to end we shall have the distribution of prizes.

Our children have been preparing for this day for over a month now. They have been juggling between classes and preparations just like a juggler. It was ensured that no studies be compromised and no classes be missed by the children. In-fact an hour’s stay back at school has done wonders. I thank all the parents for helping us and supporting us all the time. Without your support (in sending extra tiffin for the children, helping them with their dresses and costumes, their accessioning and last minute help with make-up), it was not possible.

Most importantly I want to thank you all of being such a great help in supporting the children at home to finish their homework and complete their class work in case they missed anything. Despite of your workload that you have at home or at work, you have been truly supportive. Parents whether home makers or professionals have a very busy schedule too, and we respect each one of you to take out time and do it all. This truly means a lot to us and we are grateful. Parents and teachers are together in this endeavour and we work hand in hand to do that is best to bring up fine healthy citizens of our country.  I am reminded of a poem that I read long time ago, “whose child is it anyway” and the end of the poem touched upon the fact that without each-others’ support the up-bringing of our children will be incomplete. For whole fourteen years, the child’s day is divided between being at home and at school. Both home and school must have an environment that provides the children an opportunity to nurture their qualities and talents to be able to become holistically groomed human beings, true assets of nature and mother earth.

I cannot end without adding a vote of thanks to all the teachers who have burnt the candle at both the ends and brought this fabulous event together for us all. Huge thanks to all the helpers who have been running around to get the little and huge things moving. And in the end I thank our chief guest, who has been kind on us to have taken out his/her precious time to grace this occasion. A huge round of applause for us all and a Hurrah for all the efforts.

The Best Welcome Speech for School Opening Day in English

The following speech is written for a student who is preparing to give a welcome speech on the first day of school to his fellow students, teachers, and principal. Nonetheless, with some changes here and there, anybody can use it.

welcome speech for school principal

“A very warm welcome to each and every one of you. Distinguished principal, respected staff and teachers, and my dear fellow students welcome back to (insert name of the school here).

At last, this beautiful day has arrived. I am sure you all have been eagerly waiting for this day. The fact that not all of us love coming to school is not surprising. Catching up with your friends and/or meeting your favorite teacher are just a couple of reasons, we can not avoid coming back to school.

Anyways, before going any further, I am delighted to thank the presence of the personality that hardly needs any introduction. It is none other than Mr. (insert name of the school principal here) the director and principal of (insert the name of school here). Besides, I am also honored to be thanking the hard work, patience, and perseverance of our dear teachers without whom we would not have been here.

It is, indeed, a great pleasure seeing you all gathered here for the morning assembly after what feels like a light-year. Without taking much of your time, I want to mention a lesson that personally inspires me to do and achieve more despite failing a hundred times.

Your limitation- it is only your imagination.

Thus, let us start our new year at school with hopes and dreams that no matter how limited we might be, we will do our best to achieve what we call dreams. Also, it is something magical about success. If I asked you to name the first man who walked on the moon. I am pretty hopeful that I will get a bunch of answers. However, if I asked you who was the second person, I barely hope that I will get any answers.

Because, traditionally, we do not value the second or third positions as much as we should. After all, it is not only the first person who deserves fame, a name, and a notable status. Whether you believe it or not, each and everyone deserves it because we all work hard and give our best.

However, at the end of the day, what matters most is where do you stand relative to your yesterday, not your school fellow who probably performed better than you. Additionally, those who have invested their best but they were not able to manage a victory, keep working hard because hard work pays off.

After all “Patience and Perseverance” are a couple of secrets to success. With that being said, I would like to thank you all for your patience and time. And once again, welcome back to (insert name of the school here).

Tips for Writing Welcome Speeches

Here are some tips for writing a welcome speech for students, followed by tips on writing a welcome speech for teachers.

  • Brainstorming : thinking always helps when you want to write a welcome speech. Ask yourself some questions and go from there.
  • Draft it: Once you have thought out what you want to write in your speech, draft it. Make a copy of your speech and write what you think should be included in the welcome speech. Don’t worry about making mistakes, as this is not the final outcome. This is a good starting point to reorganize your ideas and thoughts.
  • Tone: The tone of your writing should be professional first and foremost.
  • Spelling: Be mindful of your spelling mistakes. This can be done in your drafts, but avoid making them when you are writing your actual speech.
  • Revise:   If you have the time before presenting the speech, do some revisions. This would only take one to two minutes. This is just to make sure you have added everything that is necessary as well as your spelling and grammar are checked as well.
  • Length: Your welcome speech should not be too short that your audience will lose interest nor too long that may take up a lot of time. The length of your speech should be enough to last for 5 minutes. Nothing less than that.

Tips for writing welcome speeches for teachers:

  • Ponder:  Ponder on what you are trying or what you want to say. Also be mindful of the audience for your speech.
  • Outline:  After the first step, it’s time to outline your ideas. From your train of thought to your writing.
  • Scribble:  Once you have done outlining your ideas, it’s time to write the final output.
  • Reorganize:  Reorganize everything if you have the time. This is also where you can practice to see if the tone and words fit your audience.
  • Emphasis:  The tone of your speech should match the occasion as well as your audience. If you are using words that may be for adults, go back to reorganizing. The same goes if you use words that are fit for children and your audiences are college students.

How long is a welcome speech?

The word count for a welcome speech must be around 750 words, and lasts between three to five minutes.

Do you introduce yourself in your welcome speech?

Yes. You can introduce yourself in your welcome speech as you are the one presenting it. But do not add unnecessary information such as your age, location and contact details. Your audience need not know about that. They will think you are not taking this seriously.  So avoid that.

Why do I need to watch my words and actions when making a speech?

The reason to watch your words and actions is because you are up on stage making a speech. Be polite and professional at all times. Making rude comments or rude gestures should be avoided.

Welcoming people to an event or to a new environment is also one way of saying, I am happy to meet you. Remember, welcome speeches and first impressions often count.

Your excellence ____________, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, governing board members, school staff, parents, and honored guests, welcome to our 15th graduation ceremony.

Today marks both an end and a new beginning for our graduates. A time for parents to both honor their child’s accomplishments and a time to worry as they embark on their next journey.

But parents let me put your mind at ease, your child is very well prepared for whatever they choose to peruse after [School Name].

Through the education and the knowledge that they have, and most importantly the guidance, values and the love that you, the parents, have provided to your children, now they are ready to face any challenge.

Today we celebrate dedication and love. Parents, you must be proud of your child and yourselves. On behalf of the school and the students, I want to say: thank you.

Teachers, you have been a key element in the children’s education. Your unconditional support has inspired and encouraged them to achieve their best at [School Name]. Your planning, teaching, and encouraging have come to fruition. How proud you must be today to see your students with bags of good character, lifelong learning skills, and integrity. Your support and dedication cannot be stressed enough. None of this is possible without you. On behalf of the students and the parents, I want to say: thank you.

[School Name] is committed to creating an innovative and a creative education system and to prepare students for a rapidly changing world. We are keen to achieve excellence in education and to ensure relevance, quality, and balance among intellectual, and physical elements in the learning process.

Our mission is to empower and educate students though engaging them in positive student-centered education that balances academic excellence with physical, social and emotional well-being. Massive investments have been planned to create systems based on the requirements of the National Agenda. We are prepared today as we have always been.

Graduates, our warmth congratulations. Just 14 short years ago, you wondered into the kindergarten classroom to start your learning journey. Today, you are about to walk through the school gates as students for one last time.

You took all the knowledge and attention your parents provided and molded it into your own character, making you the fine young ladies and gentlemen that you are today.

Don’t you forget where you came from. Remember the foundation of your family and your society, build upon it and use it to guide you in everything that you do. Stick to the values, morals, and ethics that you were raised into and honor them in every day of your life.

Don’t focus on the negatives and the obstacles that prevent you from reaching your goals. Have a positive outlook at the world. It will make it easier for you to be successful.

I hope that each one of you finds themselves on a stage big enough to have great influence, proclaiming truth and fairness and making a significant difference to the world. From my part, I strongly believe that the future of our society is in very capable hands.

Don’t you ever give up and don’t be afraid of failure. It is ok to fail as long as you learn something from it. The only better thing better than winning, is losing then winning again. Try again, and again, and you shall find success.

Don’t worry if you still don’t know what you want from life. As a matter of fact, some of the most interesting and successful people that I know, still don’t. Life is a journey, and as long as you enjoy it and do what is good for you, your family, and your society, then you are on the right track.

Focus on your goals but don’t live by them. Don’t be afraid of change. Change is a fundamental aspect of our lives. What you want today may be different from what you want ten years from now. That is perfectly normal.

Everything is up for grabs and you can become anything that you desire. You can accomplish anything that you want. Nothing is impossible. We are so proud of what you have evolved to become. You have so much to offer to the world and we are eagerly waiting.

Congratulations to you and to your families. I wish each and every one of you the best of luck, success, and happiness.

Chennai: The M.K. Stalin-led Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government Friday transferred the headmistress of a Tamil Nadu government school after it came under sharp criticism for inviting a motivational speaker, who is said to have spoken to students about “ karma , sins and rebirth”.

Education Minister (schools) Anbil Mahesh has also formed a committee to probe the “regressive” speech of the motivational speaker, after a purported video of the address and a visually impaired school teacher objecting to it emerged on social media.

On 5 September, Paramporul Foundation founder Maha Vishnu was invited to the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Ashok Nagar, Chennai, to deliver a motivational speech. However, Maha Vishnu instead began discussing rebirth, telling students that God did not create humans equally because of karma in their previous birth.

When a teacher, Shankar, objected, Maha Vishnu allegedly insulted the teacher. After a video of the incident was circulated on social media, the education minister held an inspection at the school on the morning of 6 September.

Without mentioning the incident, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin—who is on a tour of the US to attract investments—said, on ‘X’, that he had ordered the formulation of guidelines for conducting various programmes in schools to ensure that students are exposed only to progressive and scientific ideas instead of the “regressive” thoughts.

— M.K.Stalin (@mkstalin) September 6, 2024

Mahesh said that he has constituted a committee under the director of the school education department, adding that appropriate action would be taken against the department teachers and staff, who had invited the speaker without checking background.

He also gave an assurance that action would be taken against the motivational speaker for insulting the teacher inside school premises. Hours after the inquiry committee was formed, the school education department transferred the headmistress, R. Thamizharasi, to a government school in Tiruvallur district.

Police have also launched an investigation to look into the allegations brought against Maha Vishnu, a native of Madurai. The 30-year-old was earlier known as Madurai Maha and appeared on a comedy show on TV.

Clad in a humble white shirt and veshti , Maha Vishnu was welcomed with a National Cadet Corps (NCC) parade at the entrance of the Chennai school. In a video clip of the event, he is seen being ushered in to the headmistress room, where he talks to school teachers.

Soon, he is taken to the event stage, where he starts discussing how God had not created everybody as equal because of the sins committed in the previous birth.

“If God was kind enough, everybody should have been created equally. But, one is born rich, some are born poor, some are born criminals, and some are born as heroes. Why did God create everybody with such differences? It is because you are given what you did in your previous birth,” he is seen telling the audience made up of students and teachers.

He is interrupted by the teacher, who tells Vishnu that what he was saying is wrong and “regressive”.

A visibly riled up Vishnu questioned the teacher on why he thought it was wrong to teach about rebirth and sins. Who else would teach the students about karma, sins and rebirth, he asks the teacher. “Will their husbands teach about it? Will their wives teach about it?”

He allegedly also tells Shankar that he was invited to speak before the students only because the teacher had not taught these these topics.

After the video began circulating on social media, the minister visited the school and met Shankar, a visually impaired teacher who teaches Tamil, appreciating him for standing up against the “regressive” thoughts of the speaker.

“The action taken in this issue will be a lesson to all the staff across the state,” the minister told the media.

When asked about taking action against the speaker, he said the teacher did not want to file a complaint against Vishnu.

“Teacher is so kind and said ‘we will forgive and forget’ ( Marappom , Mannippom ). However, as a school education minister, I will not leave him. He has come into my premises and has insulted my teacher. In the available video evidence, he is seen insulting my teacher and I will take appropriate action against him,” the minister said.
