Try our GCSE History past papers for that extra revision boost!

Who achieved more for American Civil Rights, Truman or Eisenhower?

To what extent was nationalism the main cause of wwi, what caused the first world war to break out in 1914, how can i effectively revise for the gcse history exam, which covers multiple topics and time periods.

Organise your revision by creating a clear study schedule. Allocate specific time slots to each topic or time period. Use revision guides, textbooks, and online resources tailored to the syllabus to ensure comprehensive coverage.

How do I use the GCSE History revision notes?

You can use them anyway you'd like to! You can add information to your existing notes or use them as a starting point to write your own notes. Alternatively, you can use them as quick recaps and test yourself afterwards with our past papers.

What strategies should I use to remember key historical dates and events for the History exam?

Create mnemonic devices, acronyms, or rhymes to help remember important dates. For example, "1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue" reminds you of Columbus's voyage to America in 1492. Flashcards with dates on one side and key events on the other can also be effective.

How should I approach essay questions in the GCSE History exam, particularly for topics like the World Wars?

Practice essay planning and structuring using the PEE (Point, Evidence, Explanation) or TEA (Topic sentence, Evidence, Analysis) method. Start with an outline, state your point, provide evidence from historical sources, and explain the significance or impact of the event or topic.

Are there specific techniques for analysing historical sources in the GCSE History exam?

Use the "SHEEP" method to analyse sources effectively: examine the Source (who, when, where), Historical context (what was happening at the time), Evidence (what the source says), Expertise (is the source reliable), and Purpose (why was the source created).

What's the best way to retain information about key historical figures and their contributions, like Winston Churchill or Martin Luther King Jr.?

Create concise biographical notes for each figure, highlighting their major achievements and impact on history. Make timelines featuring their key milestones and events. Associating figures with memorable anecdotes or quotes can also aid recall.

Kindly refrain from disrespecting him in such manner ever again!!

Hello MrAllsophistory. Your podcasts are a great help. Im studying for my IGCSE History and they have proven to be invaluable. Thank you!

' src=

Your podcast are brilliant and have been very useful. Had a question i wanted to ask when answering a part c question in a paper 1 igcse exam how many paragraphs should your preferably have to provide a balance argument?

You need two arguments on each side to secure up to 9 marks – add a fully supported conclusion to that if you are aiming for the full 10. So you are really aiming for 4 main body paragraphs plus a fifth which is the conclusion.

Just had a quick view of your Youtube History Pod on Thomas Stevens who was the first to cycle round the world on a pennyfarthing. I am a volunteer writer for our Northern Cross Roman Catholic newspaper and am doing a series on bikes. I saw the reference to T Stevens in a Christmas present book by Johan Tell, ‘En Cyclo Pedia’ under ‘A’ for adventure. On page 15 under ‘A’ for attitude he tells of newspaper adverts in the USA for revolvers as the ‘Cyclist’s Friend’ so cyclists could defend themselves against aggressive motorists. May I quote from your History Pod on Stevens?

hey there! I’m a student from Bangalore. I’m studying for my 10th grade boards (IGCSE history 20th century, depth study B) and I am so relieved to have found this website! such a savior!

Hello, your website is absolutely filled with amazing resources! I am currently doing my PGCE year and your website is just amazing! I have seen the ‘Significance Tournament’ that you have done and I was just wondering if you could direct me to a template, it looks like a great activity! Many thanks.

Hi Ben. Thanks for taking the time to write – I’m glad you’re finding my site helpful, and wish you well on your PGCE! You’ll be looking for the ‘March Madness’ causation debate bracket. The link is here – https://www.mrallsophistory.com/revision/march-madness-8-team-causation-debate-bracket.html

Hi, I adore your videos and they’ve helped me so much. I’m currently in my first year of A-levels and I was wondering if you do anything on the origins of WW1? Thank you for everything!

Thank you for such a nice comment 🙂 I have a detailed series of podcasts on the origins of WW1 for A Level – check out the series at https://www.mrallsophistory.com/revision/category/a-level-and-ib-history-revision/european-diplomacy-before-the-first-world-war

Thank you so much!

' src=

do you have anything on the Vietnam War???

Yes, plenty – Vietnam entries start at the fourth entry on this page https://www.mrallsophistory.com/revision/category/gcse-and-igcse-history-revision/international-relations-since-1945/page/5 and continues on the next page with the withdrawal ( https://www.mrallsophistory.com/revision/category/gcse-and-igcse-history-revision/international-relations-since-1945/page/6 )

' src=

My students love you!

' src=

Your podcasts are always so clear and easy to understand and derive points from. They are a big reason why I got an A* in my History IGCSE. So thank you, and I will keep using your podcasts. ( I am doing IB and taking History HL)

' src=

Thank you for the summarized revision questions and answers Mr. Allsop… It was of colossal help!

' src=

Your podcasts are so great for revision for IGCSE Paper 1 & 2, thank you so much! I was wondering if you could put your podcasts on Spotify (as I’ll be studying history for A-Levels too)?

Thanks for your message. I have submitted my podcasts to Spotify, but they manually curate and approve submissions so I’m not sure if/when they might appear on the platform.
