AIIMS Rishikesh Invites Applications For PhD Program July 2023 Session, check out schedule, eligibility criteria, selection process, seats, fee details

Rishikesh: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS Rishikesh) has invited online applications for PhD Program July 2023 session.

Detailed schedule -

1. Last date for online application on AIIMS Rishikesh website – 26.6.2023 (up to 05:00 PM)

2. Last date for receipt of hard copy of application form at AIIMS Rishikesh - 26.6.2023 (up to 05:00 PM)

3. Status of application & rejected application with the reason for rejection. Applicants are required to check the status on the AIIMS Rishikesh website – 5.7.2023

4. Last date to submit required documents for regularizing a rejected application. No Correspondence will be entertained after this date under any circumstances, and candidates are requested not to contact the Examination Section – 7.7.2023

5. . Issue of Admit cards to eligible candidates – 10.7.2023

6. Written Test at AIIMS Rishikesh- Stage 1 – 13.7.2023

7. Stage II Assessment – 25.7.2023

8. Last date for joining the PhD Program – 31.8.2023

For applying for admission to PhD Courses, each candidate is required to fill out the online Google form available on the website (www.aiimsrishikesh.edu.in) i.e. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScCmMVOPLQekC-oWWUsih3U-Ey1vXBcQQ88B-CcK2q-cjHFyQ/viewform

The candidates are also required to submit the hard copy of the duly typed and signed application form provided as an MS Word document file on the website to the Dean (Exam), AIIMS, Rishikesh, Veerbhadra Marg, Rishikesh 249203 through registered post/ speed post. The envelope should be superscribed as "APPLICATION FORM FOR PHD ADMISSION JULY 2023."

The candidates need to fill out both online and offline application forms carefully. Any Amendment/Rectification/Change/Editing is not allowed in Name, Date of Birth, Department, etc., after payment of the application fee through Debit/Credit Card/Net Banking and images, once uploaded, cannot be changed later. They should retain a copy of both online and offline application forms till the completion of the admission process.

Application Fee (Mode of payment: Through Debit/Credit Card/Net Banking) –

1. All Applicants - Rs. 2000/- +Transaction Charges as applicable

2. SC/ST/EWS - Rs. 1600 /- +Transaction Charges as applicable

3. PWBD candidates – Exempted

Documents to be attached with the registration form –

1. Proof of date of birth

3. Essential qualification certificate/s

4. Recent photograph

5. Signature

6. Left thumb impression

7. Sponsored Candidates: Sponsorship Certificate (in the case of the sponsored candidate) in the format prescribed in the Prospectus, duly completed and signed by the competent authority.

8. Proof of award of eligible fellowship for non-medical candidates for getting the benefit of special weightage.

9. Proof of category for availing benefits of fees and relaxation in qualifying marks.

Eligibility criteria –

For Medical Sciences -

1. MBBS /BDS degree or equivalent with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks or Equivalent percentile in Professional examinations

2. MD/MS/MDS/DM/MCh in Subject concerned or Diplomate of National Board of Examinations or equivalent degree recognized by MCI/DCI.

3. Master's degree after BAMS, BHMS, and BNYS for candidates from the AYUSH discipline.

For Nursing : Candidates holding MSc degree with minimum 55% aggregate marks or equivalent percentile in the Nursing specialty.

For Non–Medical : Master's degree (02-year course) awarded by Indian University or equivalent in the subject as per the requirement of the project. Candidates holding MSc (Other than MSc Nursing), M Biotech/ M Tech degree / M Com / MBA/ MPH will be eligible for the non-medical qualification category as per AIIMS Rishikesh. Candidates having eligibility under the non-medical category should have at least 55% marks or equivalent in the last eligibility examination qualified.

Candidates possessing a Master's Degree through distance learning courses are not eligible.

Relaxation in Qualification for all Candidates - A relaxation of 5% of marks from 55% or an equivalent relaxation of percentile/grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled and Female Candidates.

Eligibility for Own Government fellowship (OF) seats – To be eligible for OF seats, candidates must fulfill the following criteria -

1. Candidates who have qualified for the National Entrance Tests in any one of the following national entrance tests in the last 2 years (1 June 2021 to the Last date of application) leading to the award of a fellowship viz. SRF/JRF from any Government organization viz. CSIR, DBT, DST, UGC etc., tenable at AIIMS Rishikesh.

Eligibility Criteria for External Candidates in permanent employment -

2. Implies In-service or sponsored candidates who will receive their salary/stipend from the sponsoring/parent organization, subject to submission of sponsorship certificate from the sponsoring agency.

3. Candidates who are permanent employees of external Institutions (Central Govt/ Semi Govt/ Autonomous organizations) should submit applications through the proper channel. i.e. employer. They must submit a 'No Objection Certificate" from their employer during the Stage II examination.

4. In addition, such Candidates will have to provide a certificate at the time of joining from the employer stating that in the event of selection to PhD course, the candidate will be granted a minimum period of 03-year study leave with full pay and permission to work at AIIMS Rishikesh to pursue full-time PhD Course.

Eligibility criteria for In-service- Candidates from AIIMS Rishikesh -

1. Applicants from AIIMS Rishikesh – Only those faculty/scientists/administrative officers/officials whose tenure is of 3 years or more (subject to fulfillment of eligibility criteria) will be allowed to apply as internal candidates. They must submit a 'No Objection Certificate" from their employer during the Stage II examination. DM, MCh, PDCC candidates, and others pursuing full-time academic courses at AIIMS Rishikesh cannot simultaneously apply for a PhD programme.

2. If a faculty is registered as a guide of a PhD scholar, they will not be eligible to apply for a PhD Course as a PhD scholar until the submission of thesis work by a research scholar under them.

3. any faculty pursuing PhD Course themself is NOT allowed to guide a student.

Eligibility criteria for Transfer for PhD credit in case of relocation -

1. In case of relocation of PhD scholar due to marriage or otherwise, the research period and research data shall be allowed to be transferred to AIIMS Rishikesh, subject to the condition that Research Scholar has either joined as the employee/ on deputation and has cleared entrance exam (Stage I and Stage II) conducted by AIIMS, Rishikesh and is willing to enroll as a full-time PhD Research Scholar. Scholars will give due credit to the parent guide and previous Institutions for part of the research already done.

Candidates who are likely to complete the requisite qualification and degree by the last date of application may also apply. All such candidates must submit a certificate on the letterhead of the College/University, signed and stamped by the Registrar/Dean/Principal, confirming that the candidate is likely to complete the eligibility qualification by the last date of application. Candidates completing their requisite qualification after the later date of application are NOT eligible to take this examination.

Duration of Course -

2. Course duration for all candidates will commence from the date of joining (provisional registration) to submitting the final thesis to the exam cell for evaluation.

3. PhD course will be full-time for all external candidates, including those with sponsorship.

4. Duration of three years of courses will include previous research experience for transferred Scholars and faculty.

5. Minimum Duration: This shall be for a minimum period of three years, including coursework.

6. Maximum Duration: This shall be for a period of 6 years.

Seats available –

17 seats are available for PhD admission.

A total of 10 institutional fellowships are available, which include 2 fellowships of Rs. 15000/- per month + HRA for candidates with basic eligibility criteria of Nursing as specified in the next section and 8 fellowships of Rs. 25000 per month+ HRA for candidates having eligibility criteria of Medical as specified in next section. The decision regarding the award of institutional fellowship will be decided by IRRB as per merit in the entrance exam and will be considered final.

Summary of examination pattern -

Method of selection –

Entrance to PhD Course will be based on merit scores based on the following evaluations. All Internal and External candidates (Medical, non-medical, in-house, in-service, transfer-in etc.) will have to appear in two stages of the entrance exam -

1. Stage 1: Written Entrance Exam

2. Stage 2: Departmental assessment and interaction with IRRB

Method of Resolving Tie - The tie cases will be resolved according to age (Date of birth); the older candidate shall get preference over the younger one.

Declaration of Results –

The results of PhD Program will be available on the AIIMS Rishikesh website. The results of individual candidates will not be informed on the telephone, and candidates are advised to check the website from time to time for their results.

Details issued –

1. All Seats in a department will be clubbed

2. Candidates may apply for PhD in one subject and project only.

3. Candidates will only be eligible for seats in the department and project they have applied for.

4. Candidates will be allocated seats based on their merit in the exam.

5. Successful candidates will be screened for eligibility criteria of the respective Project before admission.

6. Candidates who are allotted a seat but do not join or resign after joining will not be eligible for any additional rounds of seat allocation.

7. PhD Scholars are required to make their own arrangements for stay at their own expense during the period of their PhD Course.

8. They are also required to identify a source of funding support for their research work, as Institute is not bound to support PhD Scholar (External) for their stay/salary/ research funding support.

9. The decision of the Institutional Research Review Board (IRRB) will be considered final in all matters pertaining to the PhD course.

10. Candidates who are allotted a seat but do not join or resign after joining will not be eligible for any additional rounds of seat allocation.

Indemnity Bond –

All Candidates enrolled for PhD Course shall sign a bond to complete the course. Leaving the course mid-way will involve recovery of salary/fellowship and a fine of up to Rs 2 lakh based on the decision of IRRB. However, the candidate can request Director AIIMS Rishikesh to review the IRRB decision.

Allocation of Guide –

1. Candidate shall work under the supervision of a recognized PhD guide of AIIMS Rishikesh based on the option chosen by the candidate at the time of application.

2. Candidates for PhD Courses shall have the option to choose their research guide from AIIMS Rishikesh.

3. IRRB will do allocation of the guide from the department in which the candidate has applied for PhD Co-guides will be selected by the guide and scholar based on the subject expertise required for PhD thesis.

4. Only a full-time regular teacher/Director of AIIMS Rishikesh can be a supervisor.

5. External Guides are not allowed. However, Co-Guide can be allowed in inter-disciplinary areas from other departments of AIIMS Rishikesh or other related Institutions with the approval of DRC.

Registration Process - The date of joining shall be treated as the registration date.

Joining - Selected candidates are required to join as per the date provided in the notification of results. The PhD seats shall lapse if the selected candidates do not join by 31.08.2023 for the July session. No candidate shall be allowed to join after 31.08.2023 for July session.

The Institute offers broad-based research programs leading to award of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. Research work may exemplify development of new interventions, testing of new scientific ideas or gaining insight into biological processes.

Departments and seats: Seats are available in the departments of (i) Biochemistry (2 seats) (ii) Community & Family Medicine (1) (iii) Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (1) (iv) General Medicine (2) (v) Medical Oncology/Haematology (2) (vi) Microbiology (2) (vii) Pathology (1) (viii) Pediatrics (4) (ix) Pulmonary Medicine (2) (Total seats -17).

General Eligibility: Applicant must possess at least one of following qualifications of a recognized University/Institute:

For Medical Sciences: (i) BBS /BDS degree or equivalent with minimum of 55% aggregate marks or Equivalent percentile in Professional examinations (ii) MD/MS/MDS/DM/MCh in Subject concerned or Diplomate of National Board of Examinations or equivalent degree recognized by MCI/DCI (iii) Master’s degree after BAMS, BHMS, BNYS for candidates from AYUSH discipline.

For Nursing : M.Sc. degree with minimum 55% aggregate marks or equivalent percentile in Nursing specialty.

For Non -Medical: Master degree (02-year course) awarded by Indian University or equivalent in subject as per requirement of project. Those possessing Master’s Degree through distant learning course are not be eligible.

Those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/Differently-Abled and females need only 50% marks/ equivalent / percentile / grade. Eligibility criteria for different categories of admission; specific qualification required over and above general eligibility criteria for each Department/Research Project are given in the Prospectus.

A total of 10 institutional fellowships are available, which includes 2 fellowships of Rs. 15000/- per month + HRA for candidates with basic eligibility criteria of Nursing and 8 fellowships of Rs. 25000/ per month+ HRA for candidates having eligibility criteria of Medical.

Selection: Selection will be based on a Computer Based/ Hard copy Test (Stage 1) of 3 hours’ duration to be held from 10 am to 1 pm on 13 th July, 2023 at AIIMS Rishikesh only. It will have 200 Objective Type questions carrying 1 mark each. There is no negative mark for incorrect answers. Departmental assessment and interaction with Institutional Research Review Board (IRRB) will be in stage 2. Details can be seen in the Prospectus.

• He/She is ALSO required to submit hard copy of duly-typed and signed application form provided as a MS word document file on the website to Dean (Exam), AIIMS, Rishikesh, Veerbhadra Marg, Rishikesh 249203 through registered post/ speed post. The envelope should be superscribed as “APPLICATION FORM FOR PHD ADMISSION JULY 2023.”
• Candidate should fill in the Form taking utmost care. Candidate should fill in the Application form correctly. Incorrect filled form may lead to rejection. 
• No candidate should register more than one application.

AIIMS Rishikesh PhD Entrance 2023 (July) Details

Stage i: written entrance exam.

Written Entrance Exam will comprise of 200 Questions of 3 hours duration of 200 Marks.

Evaluation Procedure: Each correct (MCQ) answer will be awarded 1 mark. More than one answer will be treated as wrong answer. Zero mark will be given for questions not answered or marked for review.

Distribution of topics :

Candidates must score at least 50% marks in Stage I to be eligible for Stage II of entrance exam.

Special Weightage

• Those candidates who have scored at least 50% in Stage I.
• They hold a Medical Degree (MBBS/ BDS/ MDS/ DNB/ MD/ MS/ DM/ M.Ch.) or M.Sc. (Nursing).
• They are eligible for stage II .
• Candidates who have qualified the National Entrance Tests in last 2 years (July 2021 to July 2023) leading to the award of a fellowship viz. SRF/JRF from any Government organization viz. CSIR, DBT, DST, UGC etc. tenable at AIIMS Rishikesh.

Final Score will be computed as follows:

• 80% – Entrance Examination Score
• 20% – Departmental assessment & interaction with IRRB

The application fee is indicated by the AIIMS, New Delhi in the official prospectus for all candidates. Below we have mentioned category-wise application fees:

AIIMS PhD Admission 2023 Eligibility Criteria

Aspirants for the PhD courses at AIIMS must possess the following qualifications.

• Medical Education qualification: MBBS/BDS with 50% min. or MD/MS/MDS/DM/MCh or Diplomate of NBE.
• Nursing Qualification- candidates holding M.Sc degree with 50% min. in Nursing speciality may also be able to apply.
• Non- medical candidates- candidates who are not from medical background must have attained a minimum of 60% in a valid 2 years Master degree.

Note: The Candidates who possess M.Sc/ M.tech. Degree & BAMS will be eligible for the Non-medical qualification category. Do make sure to check the eligibility before applying for an exam.

The distribution of question and marking scheme for AIIMS PhD Entrance Test is given below.

Method of Cut-Off

At least 50% in each stage of the written test (Stage I and II) to be eligible for Stage III. Special weightage (described in the prospectus) to be added after determining eligibility. Candidates 3 times the number of seats advertised will be called for Stage III (Department clinical/ practical/lab based assessment carrying 20 marks)

Method of resolving ties:  The tie case will be resolved according to age (Date of birth), the older candidate shall get preference over the younger one.

AIIMS PhD Admission 2023 Counselling

Qualifiers of the AIIMS PhD 2023 selection tests are offered admission to the PhD programs through counselling. Candidates are advised to refer to the official website regularly after the release of results for the latest updates regarding counselling for admissions.

• While counselling the selected aspirants need to carry their documents for verification purpose.
• Admission is conducted through counselling on the basis of merit only.
• Candidates are offered seats based on the preference of subject & availability of seats in the preferred subject.
• Seat allocation is also done on the basis of Fellowship Available / Own Fellowship categories.

All India Institute of Medical Sciences Rishikesh invites online applications from eligible candidates for admission in Doctorate programme. The important details of the admission process are listed below -

Course name: Doctor of Philosophy

Educational Qualification:

For Medical Sciences:

(i) MBBS /BDS degree or equivalent with minimum of 55% aggregate marks or Equivalent percentile in Professional examinations

(ii) MD/MS/MDS/DM/MCh in Subject concerned or Diplomate of National Board of Examinations or equivalent degree recognized by MCI/DCI.

(iii) Masters degree after BAMS, BHMS, BNYS for candidates from AYUSH discipline.

For Nursing:

(i) Candidates holding M.Sc. degree with minimum 55% aggregate marks or equivalent percentile in Nursing specialty.

For Non-Medical:

(i) Master degree (02-year course) awarded by Indian University or equivalent in subject as per requirement of project. Candidates holding MSc (Other than MSc Nursing), M Biotech/ M Tech degree / M Com / MBA/ MPH will be eligible for non-medical qualification category as per AIIMS Rishikesh. Candidates having eligibility under non-medical category should have at least 55% marks or equivalent in last eligibility examination qualified.

• Non-Medical Candidates: Candidates should have master’s degree with minimum 60 % marks obtained by Indian Universities or equivalent in the subject as per relevant to this research project.
• Note: Candidates possessing Master’s degree through distance learning course are not eligible.

• INSPIRE fellowship-JRF 
• For Nursing: Candidates holding M.Sc. degree with minimum 55% aggregate marks or equivalent percentile in Nursing specialty

• For Medical Physiology the duration of the course will be 3 years and the intake of seats will be 2 seats in that 1 seat for unreserved and 1 for OBC candidates.

Eligibility Criteria

• You must have passed any one of the following qualifications Bachelor of Physio-therapy or B. Pharmacy or B.V.Sc. or B.Sc. with a minimum of 60% of marks for General/ OBC/ EWS candidates and 50% of marks for ST/ SC candidates. or
• You must have passed MBBS/ BDS with a minimum of 55% of marks for General/ OBC/ EWS and 50% for ST/ SC candidates.
• You must have passed B.Sc.in Perfusion Technology from a recognized university or equivalent.
• If you appeared for a qualifying examination and awaiting for result can also apply for admission.

• The quality of infrastructure is quite luxurious we are provided with every facility here. All different culturals of students and other people are present here through which we get to learn many things different cultures.
• The campus of AIIMS Rishikesh is quite big enough. At a surrounded with greenery mountains and very nice weather throughout the year. There are many learning facilities all sorts of lapse it is computer dissection hall physiology lab library patholog
• Sometimes the weather here can be alerting due to high level of rainfall in the mountain and hilly regions. The road traffic accidents are quite common here due to Hilly areas.
• For some students it can be a quiet far place from their hometown. You can get home sick and we need authority permission to take leave and get it approved.

For taking the admission in AIIMS Rishikesh BSC Nursing College post we need to take the exam conducted by AIIMS only. The conduct this exam each year for girls only. After scoring the passing marks within each category you get qualified for the counselling list. The few number benefits are given according to the category of each student. There are two rounds held ground one and round two and then open round is again conducted to fill up the empty seats. You fill the priority list all the aims all over India according to your priority and then the counselling result will allot you the AIIMS. You need to go to that AIIMS physically and verify all the documents along with the medical status. After all the documents verification and medical you can get admission in that AIIMS. If you don't like the AIIMS you can go for second round. • I really liked entire college experience, from classes to faculty, UG research opportunity even without sts
• The mess here is great. Just great. If some days u dont like menu u can opt to order over counter
• I didnt like the hostel conditions, putting 2 people in a room for a single person is too much, overtime u start to feel claustrophobic.

• locality is good nature wise . Waking up to a beautiful sky is a bliss.
• Facilities like sports grounds are good for rejuvenation.
• It is based in Bilaspur,it's like 10-15 minutes away from the actual town.There isn't much to do in Bilaspur.
• Fests could have been better. People are working on making them good.

Being a central institute is not important, it's about the scope of learning offered at a medical school. 

AIIMS Rishikesh is a central institute, so it has a better administration. However, KGMU offers much more practical knowledge to its students. MBBS is all about gaining practical knowledge. The number and types of patients received by KGMU is very high. As you enter your clinical years, you’ll realize the importance of these things.

AIIMS Faculties are better administered than state faculties. However, MBBS is about your own efforts and approach towards studies. Teachers can only guide you, the hard work is your job entirely. So faculties aren’t much of a concern. Moreover, KGMU also has highly qualified faculties.

I would say KGMU is better than all the other AIIMS, except AIIMS Delhi.
