Welcome to our homework grids. Children in all year groups from Reception to Y6 will receive a half termly grids with a range of exciting topic activities to complete alongside key skills tasks. Please see the letter and 'How To' guide, below for a full explanation of how these work.

Copies of the grids can be found here too.

Great examples of homework tasks will be celebrated in assemblies and displayed in school. You can also see examples on the Homework Heroes tab accessed via Homework Grids to the left of this page.

For those children and families who produce homework digitally, we have a dedicated email address to which you can send photos, videos powerpoints etc. Work will be forwarded to the relevant teachers.

How to use the homework grids:

-Each grid lasts for a half term

-New grids will be issued each half term

-Children will need to complete one piece of topic / project homework per week (left hand side of the grid)

-Children will need to practise the key spellings & key maths facts (right hand side of the grid)

-Children can choose up to 2   topic / project based tasks from any one area such as maths & problem solving or RE, per half term (to avoid children only ever completing topic activities from the RE section, for example, up to 2 tasks can be selected from any one area)

-Children will need to decide how they would like to practise their key spellings and key maths facts. (each grid will give suggestions of how to do this. Websites, apps and ideas will be given. However parents need to support their children in finding the best ways to secure these facts. We hope this is something you can do together.)

-Children will need to submit their homework on Wednesdays (this will consist of one topic task and evidence of key spelling & maths facts practice).

All homework will be acknowledged by the class teacher and or teaching assistant. This may be verbally, a written comment, remark or sticker.  Please don't feel work has not been appreciated or noticed if comments are not written; we always look at everything that is sent in. Extra special pieces of homework may earn a homework hero certificate too!

Year 5 – Week 1 Learning from Home Activity Grids

A set of age-appropriate Year 5 activities that parents can use to educate children remotely or that teachers can send to students working at home when schools are closed.

The Teach Starter team has created these activity grids for Year 5 children to complete at home over one week with the help of their parents or guardians during school closures.

These curriculum-aligned, at-home activity grids cover the learning areas of English, Maths, Science, Social Studies, Mindfulness, Arts and Crafts, and Health/P.E. activities.

During school closures, or if children need to be educated from home or homeschooled, teachers can print off these grids of curriculum-aligned activities and send home with Year 5 students, download it digitally via a link, email it to parents and guardians, or upload it on any digital learning platform as an at-home learning experience that allows students to work with minimal preparation and supervision.

Parents and guardians should be able to understand these tasks and activities and to set them in a homeschooling or at-home learning environment, without requiring materials or resources found in a classroom. The activities in the grid can be completed on a tablet/iPad or completed with a pen or pencil in a journal.

How to Use This Download to Teach Students Working Remotely

These activity grids can be used as a choice board – allowing students to choose one activity from each grid to complete each day – or any other way you may see fit.  The grids also come in an editable Word version so that you can adjust the activities to suit your needs while teaching children remotely or using Google Classroom. We have also included in the download any resources students may need to complete the activities.

The amount of time you allow for a child to complete each at-home learning task should be tailored to their needs. As a rule of thumb, give them as much time as they need, but watch for signs of fatigue that suggest children may need a break.

Whether following the choice board model or doing something different, be sure to include time to play! We recommend bundling this pack with your own at-home learning and educational activities, such as reading, outdoor play, fine motor skills, games, and craft activities.

Welcome to Year 5.

Welcome to Year 5, we hope you enjoyed your summer break and are looking forward to learning a lot of new things this year.  This term, we have a range of exciting projects including learning about the Anglo-Saxons for Humanities and constructing a tent in DT. In Maths we will be focusing on place value, addition and subtraction; please keep practising the times tables to 12 x 12  and their division facts as this will really help with understanding. 

On this page you can find the current Homework Grid, the Curriculum Letter. You can find other information such as statutory Year 5/6 Spelling and a recommended reading list under Useful Year 5 Resources.  Please make sure you read for at least 10 minutes a day  and reading records should be signed at least twice a week by an adult.

Homework grid to support Key Stage 2 Geography Topic on Brazil (Place Knowledge - a region within North or South America). Gives your pupils more control over their homework by allowing them to choose creative ideas from a grid. Activities in all areas of curriculum are included. Activities include:

• ‘The Lost World’ - Imagine you are an explorer in the rainforest. Write a poem, diary, letter or story based on the events that had taken place.
• Bem Vindo ao Brasil! - Sew, print or make something to represent Brazil.
