Web of Science ResearcherID
A Web of Science ResearcherID is a unique identifier that differentiates researchers in the Web of Science.
What has a ResearcherID?
Any algorithmically generated author record in the Web of Science Core Collection.
Any Web of Science researcher profile
Having a ResearcherID does not mean that the author record has been claimed by the researcher. Researchers can claim author records that have not already been claimed by someone else, or add publications in an author record to an existing claimed researcher profile.
Web of Science ResearcherID provides the global research community with an invaluable index of author information. Web of Science Group products (Web of Science, InCites, EndNote) use a Web of Science ResearcherID to match and disambiguate researchers across products.
Having a Web of Science ResearcherID helps:
- solve author identity issues
- ensure correct attribution between you and your publications on the Web of Science
- add dynamic citation metrics from the Web of Science Core Collection and other missing metadata to publication records on your Publons profile, Web of Science , InCites, etc.
- effortlessly keep your ORCID up to date by linking it to your Web of Science ResearcherID on Publons
Author Identifiers Table
Expand the Authors Identifiers table on any article record to view the list of researchers who have claimed a publication using their Web of Science ResearcherID or ORCID identifiers.
The table includes:
If available, the Web of Science ResearcherID of all authors who have claimed the publication as part of their Web of Science researcher profile.
- If available, the ORCID of all authors currently associated with the publication.

A Web of Science ResearcherID is a unique identifier that connects an author with his or her Works across the Web of Science ecosystem (Web of Science, Publons, and InCites).
The Researcher ID is now integrated in the Publons platform. Publons is a platform that records, verifies, and showcases peer reviewed contributions of researchers.
Information stored on Publons automatically integrates with Web of Science and data imported from ORCID, as well as your reference manager (Mendeley) and manual uploads, allowing you to track citations to your research outputs and know your h-index.
Each author can set their researcher ID profile privacy settings as they see fit.

What is ResearcherID?
ResearcherID is a unique identifier for researchers on Publons, Web of Science, and InCites. It is used by researchers to track their publications and ensure their publications are correctly attributed to them across Web of Science collections. Publons allows researchers to easily add publications, track citations, and manage their Web of Science record.
- Create or manage your ResearcherID
Benefits of a ResearcherID
- Add publications, track citations, and ensure their publication records are correctly attributed across Web of Science (all for free and without requirement for institutional entitlements).
- Build a more complete profile of research impact by automatically tracking peer review and editorial history alongside publications.
- Publications can be imported from Web of Science or ORCID, or through searches or uploads.
- Metrics are available to monitor the scope and reach of publications (including h-index).
Web of Science's Process
- Each night, Publons assigns a Web of Science ResearcherID to any profiles with one or more Web of Science Core Collection-indexed publications that do not yet have a ResearcherID.
- Any publications you add to your Publons profile will then be linked to your Web of Science ResearcherID when anyone searches for you on Web of Science.
- Please allow up to two weeks for changes you make on Publons to be reflected on Web of Science.

What is Publons?
Publons is a profile tool from Clarivate Analytics, which also owns Web of Science and Journal Citation Reports (which publishes the Journal Impact Factor), that allows researchers to aggregate their research activity as authors, journal editors, and peer reviewers.
It is a unique tool for demonstrating impact of peer review (among other forms of research outputs), and the platform's verified reviews are tracked by Altmetric , a data provider that tracks online attention to research.
